Kill Switch update: We have temporarily Kill Switched the Forgotten Ruins Map due to an issue that causes players to become stuck in place. The Map will remain out of rotation until this is resolved.

Healing Dead By Daylight-Be the Kind Killer.

Let’s be real — the current state of Dead by Daylight can feel rough.
Tunneling, DCs, stressful matches… sometimes it’s hard to remember why we started playing in the first place.

So here’s a little idea — a call to anyone who wants to join in:
Let’s have some “Kind Killer” nights.
Play for fun, not for kills. Chase, laugh, vibe, and then let the survivors go free. Let them dance at the exit gates and enjoy a rare match filled with good energy instead of salt, maybe even give everyone a clean escape — just because you can.

It’s not about ignoring the competition — it’s about reminding ourselves that we make this community special. Every small act of kindness sends a ripple through the fog.

So if you’re reading this and thinking, yeah, I could do that once in a while — this call is for you!
Let’s make the fog a better place, one friendly trial at a time.

Good idea but every dam time I try to play normaly and chill I get the sweat lords and most bad isnt loosing but the lame narcissistic insults in chatt so if they sweat a little I will give them my best too.

Yeah, I totally get that. It’s hard to stay chill when others play toxic or insult you — it gets to everyone sometimes. But I think that’s why kindness hits harder when it does happen. You don’t always have to rise above, but when you do, it makes a difference. Even one chill match in ten can change the vibe a bit. This is the best answer I could give to you, sorry if that does not satisfy you.

    i already do this personally

but thats because i cant stop winning as dredge so i myself give up as killer but keep playing for BP and funny/fun moments i let em stun me and even down the last guy and bring em to hatch if they let me of course but its always my favorite one that gets hatch whether that be their survivor skin or how fun they were

P.S. I really like cool or spooky skins so if you see me in the fog just look at me and T-bag and I'm there and will follow like a dog to see

I have learnt many things but one is kidness will get spoted like in 1/1000 cases so mostly you will just get called baby killer or lear to play than just get sport man like reaction from survivors which ignore the fact you could killed more of them but you have 3 of them dead hook on last gen done and one guy who havent been hooked is just killed by camping in endgame because there isnt point going for chases when survivors can just make it to gates and they will still throw insuts to your face.

The older and more experienced you are you will kinda see that more kind and good person you are no one will reward it or respect it and just abuse it even those you wouldnt expect to do it and when they will tell that you were good, kind you are mostly done so thanks but I wont play as gentleman because survivors would like it and they will play against me like most toxic ……they can and throw insults I would rather crush them (when I see they dont joke around and sweat) and return them insults if they throw them first becasue being kind will get you in bad way mostly.

Haha that’s awesome! Honestly that’s the perfect balance — still having fun, farming some BP, and spreading good energy in the process. And noted — if I ever see a Dredge that just stares after a T-bag, I’ll know it’s you respect for keeping the fog spooky and kind!

i really like my bloody body and head and use random weapons otherwise like the candy ones

Edit: I will likely also us my pre-teleport rift as a form of T-bag and way to work on gens with you

Of course, you’re totally free to play however you want — that’s the beauty of DBD. But I don’t think that mindset of “kindness doesn’t matter” helps the community much. If everyone gives up on being decent because others aren’t, the fog just keeps getting darker.

Even if it’s rare, those 1-in-1000 moments when someone does notice or appreciate your kindness? They stick. They remind people there’s still good energy here. So yeah, crush the sweat squads if you need to — but don’t let the toxic ones take away your ability to play with heart when you want to. That’s real strength in this game.

  • Just play Trapper. Literally no one will be mad at you, even if you play competitive.

Who can be mad at Evan, like seriously?

Jokes aside, I have my most chill matches as Trapper. Maybe just the mindset that I run a match on one of the weakest killers calms down the situation a bit by default and I have less "I gotta perform good as killer" stress.

I do not care about kills with Trapper, I just love the sound when someone steps in my traps. It is the most fun when they step into traps right in front of you and you just stand there and stare down on them in some reproachful way (best paired with Honing Stone and running of when they fall down).

Make the whole situation a bit comedic, you know. And it is also pretty amusing that survivors get either cocky or assume I am nice, just because I am a Trapper. I also don't run his best addons or some wicked perk build (just a rather solid one with Corrupt, Undying, Ruin, Agitation).

And between 0k and 4k I get all kinds of results and it always is fun.

Haha yeah, that’s the perfect mindset — Trapper is peak chill energy: part menace, part comedian, and 100% good vibes in the fog.

You’re right — this post calls out killers more, because I was aiming at people who can directly choose to let survivors go. But this isn’t meant to exclude survivors — everyone can help the vibe. If you’re a survivor and you roll with a chill killer, don’t insult them — celebrate it. It takes two to make the fog pleasant.

Every time I play Scratched Mirror, I am always chill about it.
I'll do what I can to scare the living daylights out of the survivors, but I always let them go in the end, and I always meme around in the end as well, such as turning into Michael Jackson at the exit gates

Look I value your optimism but its easier to do as killer but how you wanna 4 other people bring to be more less sweaty. Thats the problem they wont be and there is always someone who will just sweat and be toxic and mostly survivors arent argue with each other in endgame chatt but they team up so if someone basicaly unhooks teammate instantly when you hook him and than sandbags that unhooked survivor (its rare but can happen) from my personal experience the farmed and unhookedm survivor will blame the killer even the fact the wrong move and main vilian of that story is his teammate who farmed him and than let him get caought again, its kinda sad but reality.

That is insane, but like today I had a Feng in my team that unhook everyone next to the killer and he tunnel every one of them. At the end screen she had Left Behind and she was a 34 level prestige - so it wasn't a newbie or a accident…but someone just played this way.

As for the kind and friendly killers. I feel like there are many out there. The more I play, the easier I can also notice when a killer "swap" his target to let someone play longer or how when they find a group of survivors, they choose the ones without hook states as the priority. I always try to appreciate it later in the chat. But also I feel like any game even if it ends in all of us dead, that let me play a bit and do some things for a while is a good one and most of my games at the moment at least - let me have that fun. I hope it will stay that way despite the horror stories in this forum😮

Its hard to stay chill when i get told i'm trash and to uninstall and start getting racial slurs thrown at me if i don't get a 4k.

Look Im not saying you should sweat as much as you can but rather think, personaly I let someone escape or give him a chance to but I find that playing mr. nice guy is more counter productive than helpfull it will mostly backfire and most of times no one will notice it or say Ty and it will draw more toxic narcissist that will send you their Ez more than some normal message. So best thing is play as you want if you want to be nice guy go, if you want to tryhard well do it and if you play more like normaly and sweat or loose your grip a little if survivors are dying too fast on 5 gens then its your choice, personaly I sweat if my opponent sweats first Im mostly just adjusting my playstyle depending on what my opponents are doing like if I want to chase someone else and other survivor just abusing antitunnel agressively or bodyblocks me from the hook then Im like ok you want my attention now you will have it till you either die or i loose as simple as it is.

Just key thing is play as you want but then dont be sorry or angry because your sweating and tunneling failed or you were nice and now whole survivor team are calling you baby ez because it was easy game for them even the fact you held back (which happen to me many times and I have learned from that).

I do agree with what you say and I also don't believe you should be charitable to anyone despite yourself. In the end you should enjoy the game how you want it. I just wanted to share my experience that - yes, there are people like that and I do notice them as someone that play mostly a survivor and I do appreciate it. Because at this forum most topics have just the theme of "x,y,z" bad.

As for the end game chat it is like that and because it I have it locked on PC most time I play. I open it only when I really liked the match or something worthy of my words occurred in it, otherwise I skip it, because I play for my casual fun and relaxation, not to resolve people emotional problems. But even then I can see sometimes the "mud throwing", so I can imagine experience of someone that is constantly exposed to it.

The times I player killer, 4 out of 5 times the matches are so lopsided in my favor that I want to get out as fast as I can just to get to the next quest or milestone or whatever. Not only that, some things I do want to change — and what better way to do that than to exploit mechanics or gameplay that the devs think are ok. They're definitely not going to change anything if the numbers show that everything is fine, and we already have the idea that their data is borked up enough… so, go ahead and crush those survivor souls. You have BHVR's blessings.

You would think that the event games would be chill and farm but it's been a sweat fest.

The thing is, you don’t have to make anyone else better — you just have to be good for yourself. You can’t control how others play, but you can choose how you react. That’s where the real difference starts. Thank you for sharing your opinion though, I appreciate it. :)

Yeah, I totally get that — everything you said makes sense. You’re right that being “too nice” can backfire and that a lot of players won’t appreciate it or even take advantage of it. Adjusting your playstyle based on how the lobby acts is completely fair, and honestly that’s how most people end up keeping the game fun for themselves.

I guess my point was more about intention — that playing kindly doesn’t have to be for others, but for your own mindset. Like, if you choose to be chill, it’s not about getting thanks, it’s just about not letting the negativity drag you down. But yeah, your take is totally valid — play your way, just do it consciously and own it. @Abbzy

That’s such a great take, honestly. It’s awesome that you notice when killers play with that bit of awareness and try to make the match fun for everyone — that kind of attitude really helps keep the game enjoyable. I totally agree, matches don’t have to end in escapes to still feel good; it’s about getting those moments to actually play and have some fun. Thanks for sharing that — it’s nice to see players who still appreciate balance and sportsmanship in the fog. 💖 @Vess

Yeah, that’s a really fair take — I respect that a lot. It’s good to hear you notice and appreciate those moments too, even if they’re small. And yeah, keeping chat off unless it’s worth it is honestly a smart move; playing for fun and peace of mind is what matters most. @Vess

It's very common for me to go for two hooks each and then let everyone go. Some folks have told me I shouldn’t do that because it supposedly messes with escape rates and makes BHVR think survivors need nerfs or killers need buffs. It's a point to consider, I guess.

Half the time I just feel bad killing people off, or someone does something hilarious and I can’t bring myself to sacrifice them. But then I feel bad for the others if I only let one person live, so, yeah, two hooks each it is.

That said, I totally get that not everyone’s into that this. Some players get salty if they think it’s a farm match (not what I'm doing though), and I’ve had some cranky endgame chats. I try to read the room, if anyone seems like they want no mercy, I’ll flip the switch and go full murder mode.
