Hot take: For what is the Bloodweb even good?
Hello everyone,
I have a hot take on the Bloodweb: I think the Bloodweb could be completly removed from the game.
For what reason does it exist?
Items and Addons are two things everyone has their favorites. Some want toolboxes, others want fllashlights, and Killer XY wants Addon XY. So if I don´t have them there are 3 options.
- I spend my bloodpoints, hoping I get the desired thing
- I swap the survivor because i most likely have the desired thing on them
- I don´t play what I want and this could be the reason why I don´t play at all.
Now you could say: The Bloodweb is needed so that not all lobbys are toolboxes with brand new parts and so on but be honest… Everyone got plenty of these things and if not you can just dump bloodpoints into the web till you get them or as point 3 points out, you just don´t play at all if you won´t get them. (This point is for Killers the same) Imagine you want to play fast Zombie Nemesis but can´t because Bloodweb said "nonono".
Bloodpoint Offerings are another cluster in these. Everyone over 10 hours won´t use brown addons. Heck I don´t even remeber that someone used them at all. Most of the time I only see Survivor Cake/pudding, party streamers or cakes and they are mostly used to get more of them into the Bloodweb, spending Bloodpoints to get more Bloodpoint generating offerings.
Maps: Oh boy Maps… they have been massakerd and I understand why. It wasn´t fun to go every match on Eyerie or Gideon. So what is the point now of them? (Maybe and I just say maybe, give Stealth Killers an Addon which increases the chance to get an indoor map)
Oaks and Luck offering I don´t even can recall when I used one of these.
So the only point to have a random Bloodweb and not all things on demand is to keep New players away from things they want to play, since players who have their main Survivor/Killer will dump all Bloodpoints into them so that they swim in things they want.

I'm convinced the bloodweb intentionally doesn't give you what you want. The point is to make you keep grinding and spending. It's so bad with my main survivor that I'm now using White Wards to hold onto my few remaining add-ons. I'd rather die with my toolbox in hand than escape without it.
I'm having a similar problem with my current killer. The purple add-on I want shows up way less than the iri ones, and all the other purple ones. So I funnel the survivor points into my killler and the cycle never ends.

The Bloodweb has become an issue because, to your point, there’s so many worthless offerings in it. At this point I find myself getting maybe 1 Bloody Party Streamer per prestige, sometimes even none. I don’t care for map offerings, salty lips, increasing the density of the fog, etc.
I agree with the Bloodweb being removed to an extent; I think the entire perk system itself is flawed if I’m being honest, especially after seeing the Class system introduced in 2v8. Classes were clean, simple, and a great idea overall.
On that note, I’m also not a fan of having to keep leveling a character after I get them to prestige 100 just so I don’t completely run out of items/add-ons/offerings. I want to progress other characters, but I also want to keep playing my prestige 100 characters (mains), so I I unfortunately need to keep dumping Bloodpoints into those. Maybe they could add devotion to characters in the future, so it feels like I’m still getting some sort of progression after prestige 100?

Would be a funny addition if you get all Items and Addons on Prestige 100 Chars for free.
I mean you got so many things on them why not make it free.

It would get really boring if we removed the Bloodweb, since that would mean Bloodpoints are useless, which would mean Prestige is useless.
Outside of flexing and who gives a crap about that.
All of that would make this game really unrewarding, since the Bloodweb gives you a sense of progression, you are getting somewhere.

I agree simply out of frustration for the current state of it. At one time, I would have argued otherwise, but over the years it's lost so much that it's become boring, outdated, and a shell of itself after suffering a death by a thousand cuts. It needs a deep rework. Make the bloodweb great again.

I disagree. I think that by making it harder for players to play the way they want to play, the game becomes unappealing when you can't equip the stuff that you want; and it becomes frustrating when you finally do have your setup but lose the match.
Why not just have a shop where players can choose what they want to buy with bloodpoints, as opposed to having to choose from a randomly generated list of options? This game is kind of strange as opposed to the industry trend: in other games, COSMETICS are RANDOMLY given (e.g. CSGO, Smite), whereas you get to choose exactly the character or equipment you want to play as once you have unlocked them.
In Dead by Daylight, you can get EXACTLY the COSMETICS you want that usually have no effect on gameplay (other than blending in better); however, you're supposed to grind and hope that the things that have a direct impact on gameplay will appear on a bloodweb.
You may argue that bloodpoints are earned in game and not premium currency; but I'd like to point out that most adults do not have too much free time, so if they ARE hopping in on a few matches, they should be given the chance for maximum enjoyment. After all, just like money, time is also a currency.

Because DbD is not the stock shooter everyone apparently wants it to be.
When they changed the add-on colors to "fit in with the industry" my eyes were about to roll 720 degrees.
While the grind is annoying at times, handing players everything day 1 is making it so you have no real progress ahead.

I think progress is when you unlock and keep something, such as perks; but not when you unlock and lose it the next match, and repeat the process- which is called grinding.
I am fine using bloodpoints for perks because I know eventually I will get the perk that I want, since every level in the web gives a few perks + there is a finite number of them (you can't have the same perk at level 3 more than once for someone).
However, for items or add-ons there is no cap, nor any guarantee that they will show up in any bloodweb level.

i feel so bad because, i got enough bps on most survivors, so i dont really need offerings or bp
i got ######### load of event items, (besides purples but thats nearly impossible to grind for anyway)
i feel so bad with how much clutter bs that survivors get that arent even needed or are not even useful.
most perks are bad, most items are bad (fog-vials, keys, maps)
alot of addons are useless (toolbox, medkit, even flashlight, keys, fog-vials, maps)
on killers, that barely got changed besides maybe a couple of nerfs or rarity changes, the last time i remember was the turning addons for billy being changed, which i grinded to the extremes.
but when i really want iris or any addon, i can just grind for bp easily and get them, meanwhile, if you arent on a event for survivor, you got no reason to play, and most events have dog-######### offerings.
they really need to cut down the useless garbage, because you'll be grinding for days just to have 100 purple flashlights.
"oh just use the black wards" no, i need the bp offering for bp or spawn offering just to play the god damn game1 -
Oh I agree. There are a lot of offerings and item addons and item variations that should be removed or at least adjusted so they are worth anything.

If you remove the bloodweb and let people buy what they want, then BHVR will never be able to change any item or addon ever again because of complaining.
Strong item/addon nerfed - undo the nerf, I put all my bp into this so I dont have anything else to use!
weak item/addon buffed - so what, I dont have any of these, ill just run my meta addon/item so I dont have to grind BP!
Bloodweb is good because it gives you some control over what you get but still forces you to diversify. The issue with the bloodweb imo is how absolutely punishing it is for newer players by forcing them to commit to one main until they play enough to dump levels into different characters. (Which would not change if you remove it, a new player will not be able to afford buying a full perk loadout + items + addons + offering for every character they want to play, esp killer)

That is my point. You are gutting new players because they don´t have that much BPs- But a Veteran can always use the desired addons and stuff.

Nah, I don't understand why an implementation of the blood web would be removed.
People probably go and do the tier system but I actually do go through my bloodweb and collect what I want, lol. - I typically prioritize medkits, toolboxes, blood point offerings, keys, and everything else. I will obviously almost always ignore the toolbox instructions, which I've said before outright needs to be removed - it serves no purpose other than for newer players struggling with skill checks and offers nothing for veteran players such as I. The same can be said for killer mains, if they do go through the bloodweb to pick what they want add-on wise for their powers.
I don't even know what they would replace said bloodweb with, we just get a random assortment of stuff or just a fixed amount? I usually let my bloodpoints accumulate and then release them on my lowest prestige survivor or leveling up my survivors equally, but again - it's whatever. I don't know why someone would choose to remove something that allows you to have choice on what you spend your bloodpoints on.

That's a Behavior issue, I've said a year+ ago that the locking of tiers behind levels is pointless and outdated and should be removed for new players to actually make a full build, rather than relying on the game's leveling system to allow a slow relinquishing of four perks to be used.
There is no reason why a new player in Dead By Daylight should be drip fed - you get one perk here, oh you leveled up to the next bracket.... Now, you can have two perks, three perks, four perks.
That's a Behavior issue, not a blood point issue. No point in the level locks and new players should automatically be able to equip four perks and a complete rework on what MMR should represent and point allocation.

The mobile game leveled characters through play time as them, while the bloodpoints were spent in more of a choose 1 of 3 items per stage, at the end of the page (of about 6 choices) is a bigger item/addon/offering each time etc. There were also offerings to increase character xp for all/individual much like bloodpoint offerings.
Items were also shared between all survivors, while killers had their own addons to grind for, but offerings were shared i think.
Not sure if thatd all be a better idea to go with as itd take longer to prestige characters and make playing as 100s feel like a waste of xp unless there were devotion levels of some kind
