Kill Switch update: We have temporarily Kill Switched the Forgotten Ruins Map due to an issue that causes players to become stuck in place. The Map will remain out of rotation until this is resolved.

2v8... Should be a permanent game mode

Good evening, everyone (and hopefully a member of the Behavior Development Team). I wanted to share some thoughts. I genuinely enjoy the 2v8 Game Mode and sincerely hope it could become a permanent feature rather than a limited-time event. Given that the main game still has several bugs to be addressed, along with numerous community-requested changes, I have no complaints about this mode. My brother and I play together, switching between killers and survivors, and it has been an enjoyable experience regardless of which side we are on.

It would be wonderful if this mode could remain as a fun "party mode" for players to enjoy or as a casual option when wanting a break from the highly competitive standard rounds—particularly from the killer perspective. I understand there will always be players who find things to criticize or suggest modifications, but personally, I can't find anything negative to say about it. The mode is well-implemented, no perks are necessary thanks to the class system, which feels great, and survivors are more motivated to search chests for items. The feature allowing killers to immediately hook upon pickup, along with the "Playing While You Wait" quality-of-life option, enhances the overall experience. It’s highly entertaining for both sides, regardless of the match outcome.

I believe other community members might share my sentiment, and we would be pleased to see this mode maintained on the main menu. Lastly, thank you for creating such a simple yet enjoyable game mode as a refreshing variation.

I would love to read any other fans thoughts on this matter, maybe with enough noise from the community we can inspire the developers to make this game mode permanent.

It wont be for one whole reason and thats because more people would play it instead of 1v4 which could have dome negative effects for the game, I believe more people like 2v8 its more chaotic and fun compare to 1v4.

I mean, if that were the case couldn't bhvr just pivot harder into 2v8. If something works better despite its downsides, shouldn't that be the focus.

I don't think 1v4 should be destroyed or deleted or anything but its foundations are so shaky it might be good to let it take a backseat for a bit. Its meant to be a party game, but it's grown so complex that it has become an entirely competitive game that is really difficult to get into. Think of all those fnaf creators that have not come back since springtrap. 2v8 is BHVR's best balanced game mode. The only imbalance I can think of is the on command sb which exclusively kills m1 killers.

i agree with you. 2v8 is far more enjoyable than the unbalanced 1v4 mess. if they add all the killers in 2v8 and add some more classes, there's like no reason to play 1v4 at that point for both sides.

for killer you still get killer gameplay but with a partner which makes things less stressful and more casual, and frankly more interesting.

for survivor the same thing but also there's less downtime (staying hook) and also MUCH less getting tunneled off hook.

also if you get a killer you dont like, it's not a big deal. the matches are pretty fast anyway so in a few minutes you're already going into the next match.

i know theres still going to be guys playing 1v4like they are now instead of 2v8, i'm just putting my 2 cents on the topic. i think much of the playerbase would enjoy a proper full-feature 2v8 more than 1v4.

No it should not, 1v4 queues for killers are borderline 10 minutes and the average match lenght is around 7-10 minutes. this means as killer ur match can be shorter then ur queues

2v8 also are too limitied, no perks, 90% of the killers are not playable (and some of them will never be playable on it)

1v4 matchmaking is also tanked cause tell me why I am getting survivors with 300 hours in my lobbies when the killer has 5k

Also the class system is boring, its the same exact skills, no perks or build variety.

Also overall the gameplay flow is awful, survivors can sprint burst on command, drop 30 pallets next to eachother and have someone rebuild them, 0 macro or brain power requiered

The only players who want 2v8 to be permanent are those who want the game to play for them. Also if 2v8 was permanent what would happend with the other modes? would default 1v4 be removed anytime something like chaos shuffle or holiday event gets added into the rotation?

Personally I've always thought a single perk slot for every person would be good.

Maybe there could also be a system like (This'll be a weird pull) in sonic racing crossworlds where certain perks grant additional benefits to certain classes. In that game gadgets like the handling vehicle kit works best on handling cars, perks like chemtrap could charge faster on guide for instance (since that class already uses traps). Perks like SB or DS should be reworked I think but other than that I think it'd flesh out the 2v8 experience a bit more, without requiring copious hours gathering perks.

Oh I like that idea, it would be interesting to try and see how it goes

    Simply NO!
Survs would always use this perk slot for some crap like DH or DS.

I agree, which is why in other places I've said this I also specified it needs to be 20 or something perks at first. Probably focusing on free perks and some of the less problematic or less used ones. I can see chemtrap, still sight, cut loose, red herring, diversion, mirrored illusion and most of the free ones being fairly unproblematic for survivor. For killer the old/soon to be new version of furtive sounds like it'd be okay in 2v8 given the shadow class is just the current version without haste. Then they slowly bring in other perks that needed nerfs or reworks like dh, ds, pain res, pop etc. We have to remember, the goal of the class system was to equalise the playing field. The perks need to be weak or diminished enough to keep the integrity of that class system, so the mode can be easy to access as it is now. The goal isn't to give massive buffs like dh provides (just look at the on command sb that makes the mode awful), its to make the mode more complex, while not shifting balance massively.

The best way to illustrate would be to give an example. Say oppression, one of my new favourite perks were added to killer in 2v8. This perk inflicts 4 additional gens with regression after a kick on 1v4. In my hypothetical system, it would have smaller coverage, maybe even 1 or 2 gens. Then if you use brute you get a small 5% pop on those gens that get inflicted. This way it becomes a thing I can use, but wouldn't necessarily give me a massive advantage, it just feeds into my playstyle.

Trust me, we agree, DS as it is now should not be anywhere near 2v8.

One month of non stop 2vs8 and you are gonna be sick from chaos and feeling of high reliance on others

i kind of like it as a permanent part of the game. the casuals play it more than they play 1v4 which makes the 1v4 experience better.

My biggest gripe is that they said they were doing multiple version of 2v8 in order to develop it for a full release, but since v2 they've changed almost nothing about it. Right now, v6 only added Pyramid Head and Dracula who is bugged. If it just continues like that, might as well add the mode permanently with the occasional addition of new killers every now or then instead of forcing a 2-3 month wait to bring nothing to the table.

If 2v8 ever became a permanent mode, I'd probably never play 1v4 again. As a survivor, having seven other teammates getting chased, hooked and on gens takes a lot of the pressure off me. And it's a lot harder for killers to run back to hook when they don't know exactly where the hooks are and they spawn away from them. It also gives me a break getting left on hook as much. (Though hook spawning on the second floor of rpd can sometimes be a death sentence anyway, but nothings perfect.)

After it's has added all the Killers and Maps and some balance tweaks I could be a good permanent addition to DBD

If they could create bots that were smarter and act as humans, I think they could do it and have it be a cool addition that wouldn't affect normal queues. Though I think they asked if people would like to play with and against bots at one point and people said no. Shame.

They are not going to make it permanent, and shouldnt do so too.

Firstly, the queues are atrociously long. In the past, they sacrificed a tighter MMR system in favor of better queue times. They will not walk back just because of a alternate game mode.

Secondly, 2v8 can get boring after a while, which would not be good. Chaos is great and all until it overstays it's welcome.
