Can't Change Your Steam Name with the Game Open

As the title says, I can no longer change my steam username with the game open and have that change be reflected in matches.

I've seen a few other posts about this here, but there has never been an explanation as to why this change was made. My friends and I enjoyed changing our names between matches to be silly and are really missing that ability.

Instead of just stating "this was intentional", can a reason please be provided?
