Can I get banned for using reshade?
I know that it is possible to get banned by anticheat for custom icons I wonder if it is the same in this case.

No im pretty sure you shouldn't. I seen plently of Streamers use them you should be fine

You won't get banned for changing icons either

unfortunately no

I don’t think anyone gets banned for anything anymore. I’ve reported cheaters and post game chat abusers and not a single report ever gets action taken. The only thing that gets you banned is something that triggers an EAC auto ban, which is usually only harmless things like changing icon colors.
1 -
This has always been a "do at your own risk" kind of thing as far as I'm aware. The developers won't actively ban you for it but if the anti-cheat flags you then that's it.
2 -
Shouldn't be bannable since the devs white list it through EAC. But it shouldn't be allowed for how much of an advantage it gives

It also functions as an accessibility feature that allows people to have more colorblindness options to utilize, if they are needed, and to see with more clarity, in general.

the game already has multiple options for that and the gamma slider in game. as if map reworks and aura spam haven't nearly killed any chance of losing a killer in chase, we really need this on top? "oh i almost got away but the killer's on PC so the colors on my survivor's outfit are brighter than the sun." feels fair

I say with full objectivity that this sounds like a skill issue from your end, one which is being used to ableistly stop others from using accessibility tools.
-3 -
No, a skill issue is saying I'm bad at aiming Huntress hatchets and demanding an autoaim option but calling it "accessibility".
Or in this case, tracking survivors / the killer without neon waypoints midchase. Plenty of pvp games have banned reshade for exactly the kind of filters that are frequently used by pc players to make their games look like a fever dream just to gain an unfair advantage.
If more options are needed beyond the available in game settings, they should be properly tuned by the devs for competitive fairness and available to all platforms.
3 -
You mean, the same developers who take years to implement even the most basic of accessibility options, including when it took them years to implement colorblindness settings?

No, it's whitelisted to the point where when EAC has suddenly ended up blocking it after an update (block, not ban - the cleanest solution IF the devs wanted to stop it, just make it not work) it was quickly recognized as a bug and fixed to work again on EAC's side. It's beyond a "eh we don't really care" and when it has stopped to work, changes were made to make it work again.
Of course that means something like it could happen again at some point where it accidentally dishes out bans instead of blocking it, but Reshade isn't a sneaky program trying to help people use it for sneaky purposes and it's very easy to recognize it for any anticheat. I consider this exceptionally unlikely but of course if something like that happened it's BHVR's policy to not help you out with any automated bans you get, that's where the "use at your own risk" comes from. I personally consider the risk of this to be a purely theoretical one, but you know - it is a non-zero probability if you want to look at it that way.

Consider the following:
"I almost spun the Killer but they use a mouse with a high DPI."
"I almost lost the Killer but they use headphones instead of built-in TV speakers and heard my directional audio."
"I almost lost the Killer but they adjusted the colour and contrast settings of their TV."
"I almost hit that Survivor but they play at a higher FPS than me and were able to react with less input delay than I can."
"I almost dodged that hatchet but the Huntress player drew a crosshair on their screen."
"I almost lost the Killer but they have better-than-average vision and saw something most people would miss."
Filters don't allow you to see anything that isn't already displayed by the game. They just enhance what is already there in a way so much modern hardware can do innately these days. If we're banning Reshade, should we ban modern monitors and TVs that have built in settings for colour filters, brightness, contrast, saturation, etc.? If yes, then how would they actually ever enforce that?
The developers sensibly understand that policing this is not worthwhile because it's an arbitrary line in the sand and completely unenforceable.
If it bothers you considerably then you already have an option to avoid playing with PC players.

Im on PC. I just dont like playing at a disadvantage because my game doesnt look like fortnite on acid. The filters absolutely extend the killers red stain as it tapers to nearly invisible on normal settings. They also make it incredibly easy to pick out things midchase that shouldnt be easy to see. your argument boils down that because some forms of gaining an advantage are undetectable the devs should do nothing at all to promote a level playing field. Even when its just checking a box in EAC to ban the easiest way to do so.
The devs clearly care about dpi giving an advantage when they give multiple killers turn rate caps and adjust them to prevent dpi exploits.
As for hatchets by your logic an autoaim program should be fine to use because it wouldn't allow you land shots that wouldnt be possible to hit without it. Its just enhancing what a player can already do right?
I hear all the same arguments from the exact same people who made their game look like a fishbowl with stretched res. "I just like how it makes the game look better". Until it got banned by checking a box in unreal engine and suddenly they all switched their stories to "we knew it gave an advantage but reshade is fine because the devs havent banned it."

No, aim-assist is the more apt comparison, and that is usually intended to enhance what controller users can't do the same as keyboard-and-mouse users.
As for your last paragraph, stretched resolutions are different since they went beyond being just visual changes by affecting actual mechanics like The Ghost Face's Reveal mechanic.
Your examples against reshade are deeply flawed, so I urge you to reconsider your stance.
-1 -
Definitely not. Basically every streamer uses it. Anytime access to reshade has been blocked for any reason by the anti-cheat, BHVR gets it working again within hours.

The only option to avoid PC players also disables crossplay for all other consoles. What we need is an option to only avoid PC players. The current option, if used on Switch will limit you to Switch players, Xbox to Xbox and PS to PS. We should have an option for console players to stay together.

Using a third party program to enhance visuals in a Hide & Seek game is obviously prone to, and has been shown to, give an advantage. It's not that complicated.
0 -
"It's not that complicated" is an odd thing to say for someone who sent a long message, and then got responded to with an equally long message. This is to say that what's not complicated is how it's not as big of an issue as you're making it out to be.
-2 -
Because people consistently gaslight and try to pretend they aren't using filters for an advantage in a pvp game, trying to come up with all kinds of rationalizations and excuses for something that is really quite simple.
Lets play irl hide & seek at night but i'm bringing a pair of night vision goggles for myself. its fine though, its only enhancing the light that is already there.

And, people use the visual terror radius for an advantage against lullabies. It's still an accessibility option. The same goes for reshade.
A more apt comparison would be someone bringing a flashlight so that they can actually see someone in the first place. Example: Coldwind's aura-obscuring lights and corn.

personally i think it should be bannable with the advantage it gives compared to a normal game but the devs gave their verdict already

I'd understand banning things that gives players advantages over others, but someone mentioned harmless things like custom perk icons being bannable for some reason. That is the kind of logic I will never understand.
0 -
custom perk icons i don't care about it shouldn't be bannable since it doesn't affect the game but maybe it trips something when the game is checking files and it gets confused with cheating?
that's the only way i see why people would get banned for it
1 -
No. And regardless of what anyone says, reshade isn't a big deal. If they refuse to implement better accessibility options, might as well use something that helps you out. I personally use it to make the game brighter because it's too dark unless the room is pitch black.
-2 -
Should be bannable because it gives you an advantage over players who won't or can't (console) use it.

The way DBD's CrossPlay works anyone turning it off would likely be waiting ages for a trial.
Say you're on a PS4, and then you toggle it off:
Not only are you now isolated from anyone on PS5, Steam, Epic, Windows, any Xbox, and any Switch, but also from anyone on PS4 with CrossPlay still on. Imagine how tiny that pool of players would be.
Not viable.

Try turning off crossplay and queueing up. Let me know how many hours it takes before you get a match.
