How does this make the game better?

Catching up on the dev stream from this week. I think most of the changes are really good, 1 change makes absolutely 0 sense on all levels. That's regarding the ability to see who the killer is immediately upon entering a match. There's no benefit, Survivors will DC instantly if they see a killer they don't like.

It's a general nerf to every stealth killer in the game. So where's the upside? This is a terrible addition. Let new players figure it out, That's the point of playing the game and borderline ruins an overall great ptb.

I can understand why they did it, they want to give solos q information that SWFS get, But I agree with GentlemanFridge it should be a bit of a delay or once first chase has started

I have seen this, But don't understand why it's even a feature at all. Makes no sense and benefits almost nobody and substantially nerfs stealth killers.

First hook I think would be fine. Myers and Ghostface don't get first downs based off chase usually.

I'm sure this will get axed.

I think they mean to say they will adjust it so that its not immediately giving away stealth killers. As for its purpose is supposedly for newer players who havent seen the killer before, to mouse over the power and try to understand how it works. Otherwise its stuff that everyone else alredy knows at the first power interaction. As this part of the update was being shown during the segment about improving the new player experience.

What I don’t understand is how they even came up with this idea.

Knowing which survivor is repairing, healing, or doing a totem—that’s a great idea, because it only brings positive value to the gameplay.

But knowing who the killer is as soon as you load into the match? That’s completely pointless.

    1. The information isn’t hidden for long anyway.
    2. During the short time it is hidden, survivors suffer from absolutely NO drawback—none whatsoever.

Some might argue that they could get caught off guard by Ghostface or Amanda—and that is EXACTLY the point of the game. Survivors are SUPPOSED to stay alert and pay attention to their surroundings.

This is DbD, not Minecraft on peaceful mode.

Conclusion: this idea brings nothing positive, improves nothing, and just pushes the game further into “let’s unnecessarily handhold survivors.”

When you give players too much, you end up making them passive and complacent.

I think the main choices here are:

    1. At the start of the game
    2. As the first chase starts
    3. After the first hook

    Reason for choosing 1:
It's not as bad as you think. Many beginner players were already getting tooltips on who the killer was going to be during the loading screen. Only long term players stopped seeing those. In the past, even hooks used to reveal which killer you played against at the start of the match.

    Reason for choosing 2:
After the first chase starts makes the timing somewhat similar to a comp team, meaning those solos in some form gain the same level of information as SWF's, which is a good thing in limiting the gap between solos and SWF's

    Reason for choosing 3:
Would allow (at least for solo players) stealth killers to surprise multiple people at the start of the match. Typically the best time anyone, especially beginners, would want to read the power description is when they have time to read it without throwing the game, which would be while they are on a hook, just downed by the killer. Or I guess you could use on first down as well, although they could be more awkward to implement with perks like Plot Twist

Makes a little more sense for the new player experience. But still, how many new players are going to want to read a long explanation of a Killer's powers in the middle of a trial? I'd be willing to bet not many. Are they meant to hop in a locker for the 2 minutes it'll probably take them to read about some of the more complex Killer powers in the game?

I'm all for improving things for newbies, but surely there is a better way than throwing out a convention that's been in the game for so long. That little bit of suspense from not knowing who the Killer is is a part of the fun of DBD and another horror aspect of the game that will fall by the wayside.

I'm still against this change for other reasons, anyway. I personally don't think the game should be balanced around SWFs or around trying to boost SoloQ up to a pseudo-SWF level. It ruins the balance and surprise in a game that was never meant to accommodate knowing that much about your opponent or your teammates. Most of the more recent Killers have been engineered to compete with high level SWFs and it's also the reason why so many Survivors find them miserable to go up against.

I agree with swf being the main balance breaker. And then building killers to the keep up with 3rd party program coms swat teams and release them against the general free for all solo ques is not working out so far. I always wondered if they could just limmit swf to duos, but nearly everybody who plays in a 3-4 man squad hates that idea lol.

As for reading for 2 minutes, maybe they can simplify the description, like for singularity itd read:

    • Shoots camera pods
    • Camera pods shoot infecting projectiles
    • Infection spreads to nearby survivors + allows killer to shoot you for teleportation + pallet immunity after teleportation
    • Boxes contain emp rods
    • Emp rods stun cameras / remove infection.
