Improve Totem Spawn Logic
I’d like to see a change to totem spawn logic in Dead by Daylight that would be healthier for overall gameplay, especially for killers relying on Hex perks.
Right now, totem placement can feel extremely inconsistent. They sometimes spawn right next to generators, on open hills, or in highly visible areas. Making them easy to find almost immediately and reducing their impact to pure RNG rather than gameplay.
A possible solution would be to improve spawn logic with a few simple rules:
1: Distance Check: Prevent totems from spawning within a certain range of generators (e.g., 12–20 meters)
2: Visibility Check: Avoid placing totems in high-visibility areas like hilltops or open lines of sight.
3: Landmark Exclusion: Reduce spawns near common survivor paths, main buildings, and strong loops
4: Cover Preference: Favor placements near objects like rocks, walls, or foliage for partial concealment
Additionally, Hex totems could use stricter spawn rules than dull totems, since their value depends entirely on staying hidden.
This wouldn’t make totems impossible to find. It would just reduce situations where their effectiveness is decided by poor placement instead of player decision making.
Totems should be discovered through awareness and map knowledge. Not because they spawned in plain sight next to an objective.

Totems spawn in impossible-to-find places when I play survivor and they spawn 3 ft away from generators in plain view when I play killer.

Map with sharpened flint. Worked wonders during bloodmoon when everyone was running hex builds lol

The issue unfortunately is, with all these rules, you can quickly exclude several locations when searching for totems, resulting in predictable spawns.
Secondly, spawns are preset. There are 10, and 5 fill up for every match.

If they used these rules then totems would be restricted in where they can actually spawn and likely would spawn in the same place every game. This would make them even easier to track down
