Veteran player burnout + dbd overhaul

I'm probably not alone in that i've managed to finnish all the challenges, did all the achievements, got every character to atleast p3 for their perks, and managed to get several p100 characters (going on 9).

And for me the game tends to have its very "dry" phases in between chapters where you don't really have much to do besides the dailies, and the odd day a new page of quests come in that take you a day to finnish.

I often wonder what drives players to keep playing in between events/game modes/chapters when the flow of bloodpoints is at its slowest, but then i also remember theres players still trying to unlock everything and havent even played as 80% of the characters etc.

It would be nice if there were something worth earning during the dry phases as even the rift feels tied to dailies and quests while slowing to a crawl without them.

Aside from that^ we saw how badly the opperation health attempt went back in september, and i had to wonder if dbd stopped making new chapters for 1 full year, and picked the game appart fixing things like:

  • The spaghetti code
  • A graphics overhaul of all characters/cosmetics/assets/maps/lighting/power effects etc
  • Mass bugfixing
  • Quality of life improvements
  • Matchmaking
  • Customisation options (moris/cosmetic parts/legendaries etc)
  • Network issues
  • Penalty system changes (like detecting if you disconnected yourself manually or your internet stopped working)
  • Stronger anticheat systems and better reporting system
  • Balance improvements
  • And anything else that could help the game improve into a more modern form

IF they spent a whole year doing these things instead of making new chapters, would the game die or would the players stick through it all like they do during dry phases?

DBD with splitscreen Subway Surfers at the same time is what we need to save the game, maybe instagram reels too while we are at it.

I'm not speaking to the severity of the penalty system, that's another conversation, but the problem with having it detect if your internet went down vs you choosing to disconnect is the fact that this has been a thing for probably about 20 years, and it just created a punishment-free way to ragequit by pulling your cable for 10 seconds or so, which is why this is less common these days.

The other things I largely agree would be nice.

But I'd prefer them to hire a team of contractors or something to plug away at this in the background at the jank while they continue releasing new chapters. New chapters keep the game alive, and going dry for a full year I feel would not only (potentially permanently) harm the game's cashflow, I also think you underestimate how tough it might be to have nothing new to look forward to.

Problem with my suggestion is that it's likely a considerably expensive venture, and spending money to reinforce the quality of a prioduct is not in the remit of any 2026 business, let alone BHVR.

I just wish more "fun" stuff was added.

Currently dbd feels like efficiency vs efficiency game.

Personally I'd love to see a year with no chapters and a focus on fine tuning, balancing and stabilising the game. Unfortunately I think a lot of the player base would expect new content and drift away after a few months of no new stuff. Plus financially I'd imagine bhvr probably relies on the regular income from chapter releases

I take breaks whenever there's like an event or new chapter I'm there and playing a bunch but whenever there's like a dry spell of nothing new going on for a while I'm on break and playing other things. Honestly it's probably the reason why I'm still around for 8 years now

The problem is BHVR is terrified of this for good reason. At our core we are just not a good game, we had something but they've snuffed the fun out of everything but the most efficient top builds. That's the reason 2v8 does so well. It's a free for all away from the horrible 1v4 formula. And the devs have recognized certain killers are just really bad for the mode and for once wisely took charge. Even without legion getting a 8k is easy as long as you patrol well and matches fly by as they should.

Yeah I'd rather the game get meaningful polish.

Operation health though was the time to do it, it's just really sad they messed it up so badly.

I often wonder why they do the things they do. I assume they're more interested in attracting a constant stream of new players with ever-expandimg content over fixing was already here, they just don't seem to care about retaining them. Because I can't imagine most people who roll up to this buggy, confusing, overstuffed game filled with sweaty and toxic players end up staying, especially once they depart the comforting embrace of the soft cap. My guess is that they spend a decent chunk of impulse cash before they run off and that's more valuable than pleasing the long timers who continue to trudge on regardless.

Tbf the 2v8 feels more survior sided. If survs are good, can run a chase and actually do and split gens properly then you usually wind up getting 6 out at least.

Ehh tbh I think it's fine as it is. Short of my teammate afking I've rarely if ever had 2 escapes let alone 8. But I also notice a lot of killers not looking around/ not kicking the gen

Let's be real—I don't think BHVR actually believes they're doing anything wrong at all. So nothing would prompt them to suddenly change. And even if they did change, I don't think they know how their own game works that well. Anyone they could hire to sort it out would likely not be a main stay at the company and the code would go to new people who don't understand it and we'd be in the same boat all over again.

The issue with DBD isn't with the game itself. It's with the attitudes and egos of those who work on it. We've seen it on display for the game's entire lifespan now. Employees have straight up screamed at us because we wanted accessibility options. They've pushed patches that the community has overwhelmingly said no to and quickly revoked those that would drastically improve the quality of the game. Even these forums are a total ghost town because of years of poor decision making.

At the end of the day, their pockets are full and they get to point at player count and pat themselves on the back. That's ultimately all that matters.

Having said that, I could be wrong but I don't think that I am. I can only judge the company based on what they've shown us.

Since years nothing changes on the most complained topics:

    • Cheater
      • They fight cheaters with ongoing efforts since 2022. It feels like nothing had changed and we now have streaming cheaters that let bots play.
      • There are still no in-game countermeasures and the anti-cheat updates where never delivered. still running the base version of easy anti cheat?!
        grafik.png
    • Ping
      • South Africa still plays on EU Server. These players physically cant have a ping below 110ms. I feel sorry for them.
      • VPN abuse is still a thing
      • Lagswitching is still a thing

Oh I'm not saying it needs changing. I think it's mostly fine as it is. Just it's more reliant on the survivors skill base rather than killers.
