For a 10th Aniversary im very dissapointed
Here it is. The game is 10 years old. A massive milestone and we get….MAN WITH MACHETE
Now i get it. Jason is a big license and an iconic horror character but does that mean he is a good fit for the Dead by Daylight video game. In my opinion it does not.
Firstly we don't need another M1 killer and from what i understand this is all Jason is. According to his lore he has superhuman strength, regeneration abilities, near immortal and according to speculation teleportation but that is just because he always seems to be there. None of these equats to a power of sorts apart from teleportation
On top of this from what I have read the license is for Jason only not the friday the 13th franchise meaning its very unlikely we are going to get a new map and no new survivor. (I may be wrong this is based on what i have read online correct me if im wrong please)
Why, for such a huge milestone in a game, are we getting basicly nothing?
Now im not saying Jason shouldn't be in the game completely. I think it would have made more sense to make the Jason license a legendary cosmetic for Trapper because trapper was based off Jason and it would have been a great tie in.
Overall im dissapointed. There are so many chapters that could come to this game but it seems that unless its ye olde horror then its not considered which is a shame. Realisticly the moment that characters like Lara Croft and Trickster were added to the game it stopped being about horror (yes i get trickster could be seen as horror but he is just a kpop star). And lets not forget Nicholas Cage that iconic horror survivor that he is XD
How does everyone else feel about this announcement? I will be curious to see what others think however i will say no hate towards anyones point of view. If your hyped for Jason then thats great everyone has their opinions so lets keep it civil in the comments :)
If your super hyped that Jason is coming to DBD please explain why. I would be curious to see the reasons. Is it just because its Jason or is there something else.

He is the last OG slasher killer who has not been in the game. Nothing else need to be said.

I mean, it's a bit dismissive to just call Jason a man with a machete. For starters, he's THE man with a machete. He and his iconography have codified so many parts of the slasher genre. The mask, the large, hulking dude who never has spoken a word. The weird fixation with killing horny young-adults.
He's THE cultural icon for slashers, and the community knew that his inclusion was a pipe dream at best, for years. it's only relatively recent that Jason's inclusion was even considered possible, but the likelihood was still uncertain, because the licensing is still a mess.
Frankly, including him as a mere skin would be a slap in the face to the slasher genre and horror fans at large. Trapper may be based on him, but it's not like we don't already have characters that are inspired by existing slashers, that we also got later on. Billy and Bubba, Spirit and Sadako, Nurse and the Silent Hill nurses, so on.
And it's also rather dismissive to say they only include older characters, when the previous killer, Henry Creel, is the most recent character in of the whole cast.

Not even gonna bother to read this low-effort rage bait. You don't get to call the King of Slashers, the main inspiration for the Poster Boy of DBD, a disappointment and just "a man with machete".
Michael is a angsty 19 year old with a knife. Bubba has family issues and a chainsaw. Ghost Face is just a guy with a knife. Spirit is just a ghost. Unknown is just a homunculus.
See how reductive and lame you can make any killer sound by deliberately obfuscating their identity? Get over yourself, OP, and let our boy thrive in the Fog after 10 Years of an open invitation to join.

Like from a horror icon standpoint there is imo not really a better pick than Jason for the 10th anniversary. He is one of the classics and all time greats up there with Meyers and Freddy and Co.
From a gameplay standpoint alone I am a little disappointed. It would have been cool to see how BHV implements someone like slenderman, who doesn't really chase and works more with teleports and jumpscares, into the game and the fresh wind that comes with that. Jason fits the formula almost too well.
But he is cool and im happy that it finally happened

I would say its the right move from the Jason's rights owners to do this now. They are starting to make new projects so bringing him to DBD now is good early advertisement for them and if they work together with Behavior they can easily advertise any projects they do with DBD.

Think of it this way, we got it out of the way now and can move on to something else afterwards.

its okay to be personally disappointed by this announcement, and completely understandable.
But you cant deny that Jason deserves da spot in this roster, he was hugely requested/demanded by the community, and there isnt really anyone else outside of Pennywise that is as huge just from POV of popularity, media recognizability.

Doesn't matter how famous he is he at least needs a power for DBD that's fun and fair for both sides far as I can tell he's just gonna end up being a weak M1 killer that'll quickly lose everyone's interest. Only thing they can do really is give him a new original power for DBD like what they've done for Pyramid Head and SpringTrap.

I mean i stand by it. he is just a man with machete and there is no disputing that fact. he main be the OG man with machete and i don't dispute that but my original point still stands
This was never meant to be rage bait. From a purely horror standpoint Jason is great. like you said he is the "king of slashers" and yes he was the inspiration for the poster boy of DBD i will never dispute this. However IMO from a gameplay point he really is just another man with knife.
At the end of the day it comes down to two things. Do you want killers in DBD because they are inconic regardless if they will have any good or fun gameplay or do you want killers that maybe are a little less iconic but have very fun and interactive gameplay. Beacuse lets face it the "Poster boy" hasn't exactly got the most engaging gameplay so what can we expect from the insperation?
At the end of the day this is a video game not a horror film. Killers like Jason work extreamly well in movies or tv shows because they can really work with the horror but in a video game it really is just "look i get to play as jason woop woop" and thats it. Within 1 - 2 weeks of him coming out unless they do something extra special with his power he will be forgotten about because if he doesn't have something decent for his power then only a few die hard fans will continue to play him.
If Jason was revealed as a killer only chapter at any other time other than an anniversary it would be fine i just don't think this is great for the anniversary.0 -
I think the issue is everyone only goes towards old horror icons. DBD moved away from horror a long time ago so they should think about chapters that are a bit more modern rather than old stuff (which personally i don't find scary and find the films are more comical than anything else because of how dumb the "survivors" are in the films)
-1 -
well.. characters in movies being ‘dumb’ isnt really exclusive to old horror movies..
and more modern horror franchises cant really hold up that well (i know there are exceptions)
and yeah, you can look at it Like that: now Jason is finally out of the and there is space for others to come and to be requested.

You just showed you are completely uneducated when it comes to horror.
Jason is THE slasher, the icon that started the genre, alongside Freddy and Michael.
His license was what inspired Trapper.
Even endertaining the thought of reducing him to just a Trapper skin is audatious. BHVR themselves decided that Frank Stone, a character from a flopped game, does not deserve this fate, and you assign it to Jason?
As for the powerset, there is a LOT you can do. For instructions, you can check the FT13 game, which game Jason 5 abilities. He could utilize traps and throwing knives, use the enviroment, ect. If BHVR just copied that, they would get the most varied killer probably ever.

Give this man a medal. 100% agree Jason is gonna be a lackluster M1 killer Unless behaviour goes outside the box with the power. I do truely hope they make his power something special but unfortunately we can only base expectactions on what behaviour has done in the past so im not holding out hope

I would refer to the F13th game but i can't seem to access the servers anymore. Not sure why this is do you? XD
I will say it again. I have nothing against Jason as far as horror icon goes. The common theme from everyone is he is THE slasher and i don't dispute that. But i play DBD because i want to play a fun game i just don't think he will be "fun" to play. I hope im wrong and i hope behaviour does something good.
Just because he is one of the most iconic horror characters does not automaticly mean he is going to be good for THIS game. It all depends on what creative freedoms DBD have with the license.Everyone seems to think im trying to poo poo all over the franchise which im not. If you take offence to me saying Jason could be a legendary trapper skin well im sorry but nothing i can do about that im afraid.

No its not unique to old horror movies just saying why i don't find them scary and to me horror should be scary. maybe its just im decensitised to it all.
Personally would love to see some chapters that arn't full horror but would still fit the killer/survivor roll0 -
understandable. And we started to get These Kind of characters already, with Lara Croft and DnD, so it would surprise me if there wouldnt be more coming

See i know its out there but as i grew up with it and as a kid it was terrifying I wanna see an OG power rangers chapter with Ivan ooze as the killer. Bulk and Skull as the survivors :)

To remind you of what powers he had in that game:
- teleportation ability (simple and easy to apply)
- shift ability (basically a dash)
- stealth ability
- aura reading ability
- rage (a buff to his strength that applied after some time, very possible to do in DBD)
- several traps
- throwing knives
- grabs that went straigth into kills
Granted, not all of these can be used. But, even with half of these, you can have a solid base for a new power, and I think it'd be quite possible to make it work.
