I Know Jason Was JUST Announced But I Have A Theory For Next Year
I've seen a lot of people already speculating how they could top Jason for Year 11, and I honestly have a theory based on past anniversaries. I don't think they will. I know A Lullaby For The Dark technically wasn't an anniversary chapter, but I'm just counting the first dlc of the new year as the anniversary since they usually start the next year of dbd with the anniversary chapter.
If we include A Lullaby For The Dark, they've gone 2 original, 3 licensed, 2 original, 3 licensed so far. I know dbd is heading in a more license-heavy direction and originals are starting to take a back seat, but I feel like they're using original anniversaries to help bring down the pressure for new anniversary licenses, while still trying to do something cool and unique worthy of an anniversary. I mean, we did get first projectile killer, I'm pretty sure Clown was also the first PTB and intro to the store alongside I think I've heard they had said prior they'd never do a clown killer, Dredge was like their first original monster killer with a unique interaction using lockers and darkness to it's advantage, and a killer that essentially has organic cameras it can use to teleport around the map. Whether or not, in practice, the original anniversaries are "fun" to play, I think we can safely say they did bring in something new to the game and added interesting-sounding twists to gameplay.
As a result, how do you top D&D into FNAF into Jason? You don't. Not with licenses. You would likely release an original anniversary or two to curve licensed expectations and then go back to it. (This is also assuming dbd lasts that many more years, but eh, we don't need to doompost right before the 10th anniversary, which most live services don't see half that, especially in the horror world)

I don't think its wise to expect them to try and top the two most wanted licences as anniversaries and get the third (which I imagine is Pennywise), it will probably be something that is different in the way DnD is the only magic chapter or End Transmission being the first sci-fi chapter
