What is the most disappointing licensed killer for you?
I am mainly talking about killers with powers that don’t reflect what their film or game adaptations actually are. For me I personally think that Xenomorph is genuinely the most disappointing killer in the game for me because this is like the prime candidate for a stealth killer, especially for it being an adaptation of alien, which clearly they were advertising it as because they had Ellen Ripley in her outfit from the first film, had the Nostromo wreckage as the main centerpiece for the map, and even specifically used the Xenomorph from the first film just for him to be a mid-range zoner.

Myers. It is a shame what the Devs, who claim that they are big horror fans, made out of him. Him becoming a Dash-Killer made him the so far off his source material it is not even funny anymore.

I would say Freddy. To me it still doesn't feel like Freddy is even in the game, just a knockoff. It worked with myers because hes just got a mask, but freddy had personality and a face, that was not brought in. His original power felt pretty cool until everyone figured out how to exploit it and make it weak, then they changed him to something pretty boring.
And i fully agree with you with xenomorph - as a xeno main myself lol shouldve been a stealth killer and had potential for so many things

Freddy, at least Myers was perfect character wise for awhile even if he was d tier. Freddy has been reworked twice and still only feels like a parody, doesnt help its his remake version. Tbh the next license we will lose will be him, no cosmetics for him or his survivor, its been ten years since his release i imagine BHVR is getting tired of paying for him and will most likely be gone in a year or two as more IP's will be added.
3 -
With things the way they are, it has to be Myers.
They straight up killed any fun he had and made him an actual, genuine dashlop. It is frankly an insult.
10 -
id like to say Freddy since he is kinda disappointing, but Myers straight up makes me upset. they should have just yanked the licence and not even rework him.
they ruined his character and facing him as survivor i just regret even queuing up

Probably Xenomorph. Don't get me wrong, I'm one of the few who seems to really enjoy playing against it because placing the turrets introduces a small element of strategy that is unique and interesting (but most people overlook).
But when you think about all the things they could have done with the cocoons, eggs, facehuggers etc., and then compare it to the scorpion doggo we actually got, there's no denying that it wasted a lot of potential.
4 -
Xeno, echoing what @not_Queef said above, there's nothing that feels distinctly Alien outside the visual design of the tunnels when playing Xeno. I get the intention behind the power design but it really, really feels off. Plus getting ganked by 2 turrets during a crucial chase feels so awful.

for me personally, its definitley Xenomorph as well.
Though i do understand current versions of Myers and Freddy being disappointing as well, since the First iterstions were definitley more fitting and more creative.
I think Pyramidhead can be mentioned as the opposite, afaik he doesnt have any abilites from the original source(s) but he feels great. Maybe a bit clunky and outdated mechanic-wise, but still cool concept.
damn, you know they really messed up Myers when even the General thinks this rework is worse than Freddys rework
2 -
Really hate to do this but i'm also in the 'Xenomorph was disappointing' camp.
Now I wanna say I don't dislike Xeno on either role. I like vsing them for the most part and I find some enjoyment playing them but I don't really think the power and overall vibe of the Killer is authentic enough to Xenomorph.
No Sigourney Weaver which I can't fault BHVR for because if an actress says no, nothing they can do. I don't actually dislike the Ripley we got she's cool and her voice actress does a good job in my opinion.
The music is good, that's a plus
The map was disappointing for me personally because I was hoping we'd get a 'Ship in space' map and not the crashed nostromo/alien planet hybrid that we got. I know indoor maps are infamously hated so I guess most people don't mind that.

None of them. The only one to me that kinda don't really feel like their source material counterpart is Freddy, however i don't count him since i frankly don't care whatsoever about the remake version of the character.

Honestly, I think all of them. The gameplay reflects the original Killers well, but the ones introduced come from films where deception is a key factor and their victims use everything in their power to survive until the end. In game, it tends to be more about cheese 24/7. It would make for the most unsatisfying film to watch ever.
Using Jason for example. He never makes himself fully known until the latter half of his films. He isolates his victims and picks them off one by one. Deaths are surprising and brutal, until he gets down to the wire and the victims begin exploiting his trauma or other weakness to gain an advantage over him. Sometimes they even scare or confuse him. However, in DBD he's going to down someone, come back to the hook, tunnel, and get a 4k without a lot of effort. At this point, it's just the same old garbage with a different coat of paint.
-2 -
Jason only does that in part 2 to 4, the whole ''first person camera slow burn isolation kill until reveal later on'' gimmick the movies used was dropped entirely in part 6 and onward, letting Jason instead go straight to the killing immediately.
4 -
Ghoul /Ken , outside of balance issues who thought a anime guy weeb screaming in your face was good. If they really wanted to do anime in dbd should of picked a better IP like chainsaw man who at least looks interesting in the character design aspect. ghoul is anime guy number 254

bhvr honestly cooked with Pyramid Head minus the whole giving him arthritis thing but I understand why they did it

Most of the Killers from licenses I actually like but a few that disappointed me was the Myers rework basically assassinating who he was, they turned him from a genuine stalker character just to someone who dashes, and I don't think he ever dashes in the films, Xeno is a little disappointing because an organism stated as an "Cunning species, born of violence, designed to kill" and all he has is a tail attack, disappointing but honestly not the worse, I do not like ST Vecna, I never watched the show but I feel like he could've had any more interesting powers that to just shoot vines from the ground and his counterplay is very boring to go against

Surprised no one has said Afton yet.
His model, while still pretty good, isn't totally accurate to his original suit. Additionally his mori seems far more fitting for his movie counterpart than standard Afton. His voice lines, while spoken amazingly by PJ Heywood, come across as very goofy and silly to me. I know a lot of people would say that's fitting with modern Fnaf, and it probably is, but I was still hoping for a more mature take on the character.
The elephant in the room and my main issue with him is of course his power though. The random throwable axe has already been bashed a ton, but his security doors also feel very uninspired and the cameras might as well not even be there.
Maybe it's just a personal thing, but I was definitely disappointed with him.
I would also say Myers, but it feels a little unfair to nominate him when he was so beloved for the majority of the game's history. His rework was total garbage though.

Myers was pretty awful. His rework was terrible.
BHVR needs to work on the quality of their reworks a bit more and also have it not take years to get them out so people are stuck playing characters that feel awful.

DBD is so close to being the best Springtrap has looked, but the darker chest patch being missing is a massive personal gripe I have with his design and just sorta reeks of 2015 SFM model (which I mean I can roll with that but c'mon)
The mori should have adapted the idea of how Springlocks were implied to work in the games rather than just giving him a shrendo from the films.
Golden Freddy, the Puppet, Baby, and Foxy are just missing??? What we have is cool but is there a reason like half the core cast is just not here? It isn't for a sequel chapter cause the devs already mentioned they'd want to adapt the Mimic and Pizzaplex for some reason. Mike is the only character whose absence is completely understandable, though still disappointing.
The whole weapon debacle for Afton could've been solved with cosmetics like Jason or Billy. I hate that they handled the discourse by forcing players to use both the knife and axe.
Certain aspects of the chapter, especially the map, give me the impression this was a chapter made for FNaF fans and not by FNaF fans (which was to be expected but still disappointing). There's some cool events like the heads in parts and service following you and the animatronics on the main stage bursting to life for a moment, but others like retreading the Jonesy cameo with the Cupcake and the endo jumpscare just come off as lazy.
Why isn't there a secret backroom where Afton stuffed the kids? Why are all the arcade cabinets reused assets rather than any of the slew of memorable Fnaf minigames? Why does William not reference his kids in literally any of his voicelines or add-ons? Just stacking missed opportunities.

Probably Springtrap.
Ironically, I actually love playing him, he's one of my three P100 (Xeno, M. Trap and Pyramid). This isn't a gameplay complaint.
My issue is that I feel the adaptation left a lot of FNaF's identity on the table.
What disappoints me the most is that some of the most interesting ideas were seemingly present at some point during development.
For example, the official website :
"When a Survivor enters a Security Door, they will enter a unique Security Room. They can then cycle through every Camera on the Map, open and close doors, and exit from whichever door they please."
None of that exists in the final version.
The idea of Survivors managing cameras and security systems while Springtrap hunted them felt incredibly thematic. It would have captured a lot of what makes FNaF unique.
Instead, the final power feels much more focused on teleports and chase interactions sprinkled with gimmicks.
I still love the killer, but I think the chapter could have leaned much harder into surveillance, paranoia, cameras and resource management.
Alien is the opposite for me.
A lot of people call Xenomorph disappointing, but I think it's one of the most faithful licensed adaptations in the game.
The tunnels are essentially the vents from Alien: Isolation.
Motion Trackers are straight from Isolation.
Flamethrowers are straight from Isolation.
The Xenomorph moves unseen through the map, listens for prey, emerges suddenly and can be repelled by fire.
It's basically the Alien: Isolation gameplay loop translated into Dead by Daylight.
So while I understand why some people wanted Facehuggers, other mechanics, or simply do not like the gameplay, I never felt Xenomorph misunderstood the source material at all.
Springtrap is the one where I look at what could have been and feel a little disappointed.

Post rework Myers.
-2 -
Myers now, good god what an absolute failure of a 'rework' Sure he was weaker but a good Micheal made you panic and have an absolute blast. Now it's just a massive groan and hope the Myers game fails soon so he returns and hopefully gets changed to ANYTHING else.
-1 -
Freddy, without question. Robert Englund/Wes Craven's iteration is the real Freddy, what we have is D-Tier Sharp Hand Joe
Myers is also disappointing in that he is so weak, but doesn't feel like an affront to the OG in the way Freddy does.
4 -
While I'd happily agree that Springtrap is marred by what could have been, in terms of a completely unique DBD experience, I can't call him the most disappointing.
Springtrap as a concept is ridiculous. Cool, but ridiculous. As such, I feel leaning into the corny/goofy nature was the only way to make something less abstratct than the set of jpegs he is in his source material work. I also find it weirdly endearing that Afton is just having the absolute time of his life.
I do think they could have maybe made his suit seem more like the torture device it ends up being in the lore. Despite his pained roar and limp, he doesn't seem impeded by it at all.
But all of that ends when I get to playing as him. I just enjoy it too much to really call him disappointing, even if I don't feel like Springtrap, if I'm having a blast in a Springtrap coat of paint I feel like calling it the most disappointing isn't fair.
So I'll go with Freddy.
Freddy is going to be difficult to translate to a PvP game purely because of how he works in his media. However, what we got was remake Freddy, who has infinitely less charisma and staying power in his design, and they somehow fumbled that even ahrder by making him feel like an incomplete mod.
His power is kind of dull and unsatisfying to use. I don't feel like a demonic sadist chasing someone through a dream and tormenting them all the way. I feel like a dude with a throwing net and the ability to prank survivors with exploding pallets Bugs Bunny style.
And playing against him feels as closer to a standard DBD experience than any other license. Even Myers has Scratched Mirror to make him feel unique.0 -
Calling current freddy d-tier is wild take.
1 -
Freddy is 100% not D-Tier
2 -
If kaneki is anime guy 254, anyone from chainsaw man or jjk for that matter would be anime guy 638292 lol.
3 -
everyone complaining about Myers or Freddy when they're at least good Killers balance-wise now, while Onryo is basically unplayable.
5 -
its mostly design wise that we are talking about, Onryo had a very good design in her model and power. Sure she isnt the strongest killer, but she had a pretty sweet design

Freddie and Ghostie, just for being knock off versions of the real deal and not really anything to do with their powers (which I think are fine).
I'm also saddened by remake Myers. It was all the more upsetting to see him reworked just before BHVR lost the license. I wouldn't have minded so much if people new to the game enjoy the version we have now but we're stuck with a version of Myers that's frozen, with a lot of old heads disliking the rework and no newer players who might enjoy him a bit more than we do able to play him either :(
The Junji Ito content being a collection of skins for Killers that I (for the most part) have no interest in playing was a disappointment to me.
The First was also a bit disappointing. He's not terrible as such, but a power that's a cross between Freddie and Pinhead just wasn't what I was expecting, I guess. As soon as I saw how he worked, I knew he'd be a nightmare to play on controller. Was hoping for something more to do with his psychic powers. That whole chapter was a disappointment for a lot of reasons, tbh (a ST part 2 chapter was on my personal wishlist, as well).

The first killer to come to mind was Freddy. I think he needs a visual update and voicelines. His power is fine.
I love xeno, fun to play as and against, but I agree with everyone else about it being disappointing, or at least not what I was expecting. I was thinking we were going to get a xeno that could climb up walls, maybe have a leaping ricochet mobility where you quickly jump and latch to a wall or ceiling from like 10m then pounce at a survivor, idk. In the very least, have a Blight-level speed ability since xenos are pretty quick and agile.

Myers 100%.
Look at how he’s been handled over the last 10 years: left untouched for almost the entire time, rendering him a virtually useless killer unless you were using specific builds, only to then be reworked so badly that he’s lost his true identity.
The most iconic horror killer of all time, reduced to a senseless, frenzied dash-slop.-1 -
Has to be modern Myers. Slaughtering Strike is one of the biggest unnecessary own goals that has ever made it to the live game, BHVR made a wide swath of reasonable adjustments to Myers then set it all ablaze by making him a dash Killer.
Freddy is a close second. Not being Robert Englund is a stain the game can never quite wash out, and while his modern state is decent as Killer design gameplay wise I still find myself thinking about his original launch version, there were numerous problems with it ofc but the central pillar of not being able to touch Survivors unless they fall asleep is IMO core to the fantasy of the license and should not have been sacrificed the way it was in Freddy's reworks.

Xeno. I know some people swear by them, but they are just a worse Nemesis sans zombies and added tunnels. The tunnels are not fast enough nor sufficient to purpose enough to use in most cases providing too little benefit.
After that what you're left with is a less intimidating Nemesis. An M1 killer with a medium range M2 - Only unlike Nemesis you can be locked out of your M2 with turrets, and your M2 has a much higher chance of encountering collision issues.
As a life-long lover of the Alien franchise I just find it disappointing. The killer isn't unique, they aren't particularly fun in modern meta (For me mind you, for me), and overall they don't inspire the feeling of being a Xenomorph.0 -
Springtrap, was hoping there would be more to do with cameras and the other animatronics would be involved somehow but nobody uses the camera or the office so it's just huntress with a way heavier axe.
Also the map just being Greenville with the pizza place being a tiny space in the middle was so disappointing.
5 -
Xenomorph for me the killer is more or less the most iconic killer there is and the map was very good and balanced but those turrets made the killer annoying to play. Those damn turrets! 😡
1 -
Freddy because its the lame remake version instead of the true Englund one.
Springtrap because I ain't ever seen that character throw an axe in the games or movies. Huntress lite.
1 -
Myers with his horribly unfun for both sides rework.
I used to love Myers on both sides. Now he doesn't feel like Myers at all anymore. I don't want to dash with Myers, I want to stalk survivors. As a survivor Myers is the most boring killer in the game to face now.
-3 -
Alien 100%. They should've implemented the facehugger to its kit to where if youre hooked a face hugger comes off of the hook and infects the survivor. To where they would have to deal with it at a medical station or else it would burst out of their chest if they dont do it in time
-1 -
right in this moment? jason since he looks like upgraded springman
overall? myers because that rework fits ghostface more and ghostface also needs a buff/rework
1 -
Pyramid head they nerfed his cake AND he can't nod?
1 -
Maybe not currently, but that's not really the point I was trying to make. It's that he's a largely ignored, boring, soulless, feelble imitation of one of modern horror's greatest icons.
-1 -
Junji Ito fits the vibe perfectly. I wish they would've invested more in that. Imagine everyone running around in red sweaters holding their heads in place. 😂
-1 -
Chucky doesn't really have a power at all, and "but he's short" can only come into play on like. very specific loops. He could have been a crazy doll-switching macro weirdo but he's got a power that feels like a placeholder. He has the most basic dash attack in the game and a stealth mode that's just as creative. He doesn't even latch onto a survivor when he hits them to then bounce off to someone else or do anything like interesting with being small, he's just… He just IS small and is 110% for some reason.
Vecna actually has a power but it's totally off the mark. Actual necromancer, no necromancy. I don't count his skeletons 'cause that is Burning Hands. That is a generic cone spell. I'm gonna ignore that his visual design sucks, his power has no necromancy spells that are not just a generic cone attack, and his spells are 3rd level at their highest. He does not play around with being a wizard in an interesting way, he has no spells that are thematic for a lich who is the master of secrets and undeath, he's just… Bland.
Wesker would have fit the game more if he was based off his role in RE1 as a double crossing mercenary instead of RE5 Matrix Superhero Man. He could have had a cool REsistance style, like, zombie-summoning trap-triggering thing going on. But he is a dash attack.
1 -
Freddy by like, ten miles. He's my favorite horror character but they licensed the version from the awful remake, and because he was added before killers and survivors started talking so much he has no quips, no jokes, no voice at all, and none of the personality that makes Freddy great. There are also soooooo many interesting things you could do with his power but because they licensed the remake version they couldn't use any of the weird, funny, or terrifying stuff he does in dreams in the old movies. Exquisitely disappointing and especially so now that Jason is going to be in the game and they seem to actually care a lot about getting him just right and paying homage to his past.
I also am just confused by Vecna (the D&D one). Aside from him being a literal god and thus it making no sense for him to play slasher villain in some pocket dimension, D&D has whole settings dedicated to horror-themed gaming. Of course they aren't making Ravenloft movies or comic books or whatever so we have to go with a character from a setting that does not fit in with the eldritch horror vibe of DBD at all. Also, again, he's a god! And specifically a god who became a god because he was really good at magic! "Throwing some ghosts at you" seems a bit underwhelming given the context.

Ok pal as much as I hate ghoul balance wise for an anime guy behavior did make him pretty accurate power wise
0 -
Alien they could have done so much more for this killer
1 -
my issue isnt with how they did ghoul, but why him as the first anime dbd character. could of pulled from a anime that had more cooler/ horror adjacent designs. eg chainsaw man I suggested but really any anime where its just not a x anime dude.
0 -
hanging blimp for DBD.
1 -
Ghoul fits better then Chainsaw man and much simpler to add to the game how are they gonna make a power for Chainsaw man that isn't already billy or bubba? Its just a mess compared to Tokyo ghoul
