To be fair, this person was really bad at communicating. And not just in this instance. This person should have never had such a role. (Obviously the harrassment that followed was not ok and should have never happened. Being bad at communicating is no reason for that… but the Downvotes themselves (not the nasty messages) were kind of deserved)

Well, the Forums closing down is sad to read. And honestly, I dont think that this will work with Discord. Another game I play (World of Tanks) removed their forums not too long ago and migrated to Discord and it is not compareable at all. The Forums were full of discussions, help and Memes/Trolling (in a good way), Discord is just dead. And I think something similar will happen to this Forum. Because of just a simple reason: People who use Forums use them, because they like them. If they would want to discuss on Discord, they would do that already. Or are doing that already.
But here on the Forums are probably the most dedicated members of the DBD Community and players who are really invested into the game. Throwing this away is pretty weird.
And when it comes to user decline… I think one big factor is simply the warning system. Sorry, but you can have thousands of good posts, but if you have just very few bad posts, you might get banned. Pulsar is a prime example for that: 23k Posts, usually very respectful and detailed in their posts with lots of explanation for their points. I bet the number of Posts which lead to the Ban is below 20. Naturally this leads to a shrinking community, because either you get banned or you see other people being banned and lose the interest on the Forums.

Well, in the history of inexplicably gigabrain moves by BHVR, this is certainly one of them.
Like many others, I will not be moving to Discord/Reddit, so this will likely be the end of community engagement for me. Yes, the forums aren't what they have been (partially due to killing off some of the most tenured members), but keeping a board like this alive is such a light lift for a company with the resources BHVR has.
I've been trying to justify continuing to invest in DBD generally, and this isn't going to add to that case.

Feels like even some of the forums most passionate members with personal beef of bias, even those who were banned long ago for getting too wild would proudly and happily come together here, hand in hand against the forums closing down. Beautiful in a bitter way.

Just another lesson that corps don't care about their communities outside of financial gain, they might hire people to pr-speak as 'one of us' but at the end of the day its smoke and mirrors.

What a baffling choice. Discord is an awful way to have discussions on specific topics. It is far too chaotic and unstructured. I think this really does show BHVR does not care about their community at all if they are just removing the ability to have structured, reasonable discussions.

As controversial as this sounds, I really don't think this is too bad. Besides, it's our own faults for abandoning the official forums. This wouldn't of happened if we stayed. Some of are here, obviously one is myself. Still, Discord is the most popular gaming chat. Nothing wrong with prioritising the majority, it is what I have been saying for a while. You can't please everyone, prioritise the biggest audience you can, which is Discord. People will complain obviously, I get that. Still you are proving my point, end of an era but was a good run. I will still give my stupid ideas on here until the very end, ok now I'm being over dramatic but peace out.

This is honestly really disappointing and sad news, i don't see myself joining the discord server at all and i can't use their subreddit because i got banned from there, i guess BHVR doesn't care about some of the people who have been on this forum for many years, they don't respect our time.

The forums are the official forums. That's always given more of a sense of weight to what BHVR people post here and whether things have a chance of being read or not. There should have been a direct line from starting things on the official BHVR forum and then spreading out from there.
Its also been a great place for actual discussions. The feedback on patches and PTBs seems more detailed here than other places. People have been able to post their ideas on why something does or does not work, and others can post detailed responses. Once upon a time we got BHVR people to weigh in on those issues as well.
Places like discord just seem to much more be 'who shouts the loudest'. Unfortunately that seems be a trend for BHVR on gathering feedback where they don't go beyond surface deep and thus continually seem like they are going to address community concerns, and then don't.

The problem is that Discord is not a valid substitute for a Forum, ever. It's not even a matter of whether or not BHVR can properly moderate an official discord or anything like that, it's Discord the platform. every single official discord I have ever been in has reinforced the point that it's totally impossible to have a forum on discord. the app isn't suited for it, even with the update that brought threads to discord. it's a different kind of app entirely, very few of the discussions on discord are ever related to the actual game in a meaningful way and a sizeable portion of responses you'll get for genuine questions or ideas will be unserious and trolling and that's for communities without the toxicity issues DBD has.
You will just have no reasonable space to do what you do here which is put forth brainstorm ideas for things that could be done, that's the only types of discussions I have seen you post here… those kinds of discussions just don't exist on discord communities.20 -

Sadly. Though the Forums were also kinda going in that direction with downvotes/ratio not bumping threads but it was still not as noticable as Discord/Reddit/Twitter.

Absolutely devastating news, truly. I think the writing's probably been on the wall for a while, what with this being a dwindling instance of a dead format, but it still sucks majorly to lose it so quickly.
I love this place and I'll miss it dearly. Guess I should probably look at the discord whenever I get that email, but it definitely won't be a replacement.

Discord is not a forum replacement. The gradual disappearance of searchable information on forums is disappointing in general. Discord posts are just farts in the wind. I won't be moving over there.

The discord needs ample changes for long form content. I go into game discussion on the discord right now and its someone posting silksong charms and talking about silksong.. I cant interact with a topic like a can on here in a dedicated thread.
This change really saddens me, I did not interact with community outside of Facebook groups and here and people where real casual minded on Facebook, Reddit is a cesspit i never want to touch.
I love being able to have discussions about the game and i just feel like its not gonna have the same vibes at all as the forums.15 -
It’s pretty obvious why they want to move everyone over to Discord where you very accurately stated ideas appear and disappear like farts in the wind. It has been glaringly apparent for years that BHVR care very little about community input and they’re just going to do whatever TF they want to do. Now there will be no receipts. Blowing up the forum is a great way to make sure nobody remembers what the community have been asking for or what promises BHVR have made and never followed through on.

It is concerning how many companies are veering away from any instance of data that can be used to to cite or hold them accountable to their statements. I doubt that's entirely the point of the direction here, but it's not a point in a winning direction either.

Now now, let's not be unfair. BHVR totally listens to its community. And by community I mean it's biggest CCs. It will be easier than ever to do so now. Whoever doesn't repeat their views just won't be heard. But don't worry, you can still be noticed. Just play this game for a living and get a million subs, and develop them into a cult-like following who will repeat what you say verbatim.

Discord is a horrible replacement for the forums. In no way should discord be the official way to interact or give feedback to the devs. Having any sort of support staff or forum on a platform that cannot be searched online is ridiculous. No idea why so many companies and devs are using it when it is absolutely awful for people actually trying to solve problems. It just results in people asking the same questions over and over since they can't just do a simple google search and have the forum give them the answer.
Reddit is okay but of course users are at the whims on the moderators and Reddit staff. Also not a great place for feedback since there are no categories and so many posts get buried by memes, or people asking the same question over and over since they never see the other posts on the same topic as they are buried due to not having upvotes.
I just see this as a horrible decisions on BHVR's part. These forums were great for having actual conversations and discourse with others players. I feel like the other platforms will be much less interesting and engaging for actual discussions. I feel like it was much more common to see higher quality feedback and concerns from other users here than the other platforms.
Also just for extra emphasis because it really needs to be said and understood, Discord is NOT a good forum!!

I had the pleasure of seeing you in the Fog once, but I'll always regret that it had to be one of my mean builds at the time. I never play Wesker but when I did, it was with Coulrophobia for the anti heal build. I hope next time you'll get to see The Bark Lord

Discord is not and can never be a replacement for a dedicated forum. And I have heard there is obvious bias on the dbd reddit.
Gutting the forum is a horrible game plan and will obviously drown out the dedicated players statements.

Hey to be fair they don't even listen to the CC's on some things(the first anti tunnel system I've heard a lot of CC's state it only needed to be tweaked.)

I'll admit not everyone was wholesome here, myself included, but at the very least everyone who came here did so in order to passionately discuss the game. It wasn't full of trolls, spam or whatever other problems other forums deal with for a shutdown, and specially not a lack of resources to maintain it. There is no reason for this.

Bit sad to see. But wondering why the forums were less active after the Pulsar incident where people concluded a small infraction could get you banned is definitely a choice to behold. I wonder how I managed to stay this long considering I don't filter myself outside of straight verbal abuse at least from my memory especially compared to Pulsar which was WAY more respectful compared to me.
