I am convinced that Hellraiser: Revival had nothing to do with dbd's removal of Pinhead.
As there are some things that seperate the 2 games entirely:
- Both games have completely different target audiences. Dbd is considered a Mild horror game because they are trying to draw in a much wider target audience that just enjoys horror in general to keep player count high. Hellraiser : Revival on the other hand would be considered maximum spicy horror where the first 10 minutes throws more nudity and grotesque gore at you than dbd would ever try to do in the next 20 years. So it has a very specific/small target audience and are not competing over number of players.
- Time required to play, because dbd is a live service game with constant new content which is trying do aquire your attention and time for years. Meanwhile Hellraiser : Revival is meant to be a single player experience first person story driven action/horror game which would only require a day or so of your time and once finnished there wouldnt be new content coming for it to keep you playing. So they are not competing for your time.
So the only thing I can think of as to why the license didn't renew is Clive Barker wasn't happy about Pinhead joining dbd at the last minute while he was in the process of reaquiring the license in court. And all the controversial stuff that happened during the Hellraiser chapter release. Otherwise it might have been simpler that they would just have to go through Clive Barker about renewing the license with DBD .

No it's pretty much confirmed it is because of the hellraiser game. Part of the licensing agreement for that game is that they get exclusivity to pinhead and he's not allowed to be in any other games.

Well darn. Was there any mention on how long that exclusivity would last?

My guess is it wasn't necessarily a targeted thing, just something that happened to fall under the terms of one of the agreements. Having played both I can't imagine anyone thinking they compete with each other.
Possible plus side is when it comes back that would be a good opportunity to negotiate for the other 2 cenobites as skins. The female cenobite has always been my favorite design of the 4 and it would be neat to play as her.

The license couldve been removed because it hasn't earnt enough money or because new terms for further license wouldve got unappealing. Freddy for example is in the game for very long time and there wasn't a single cosmetic or quest-themed event towards this license. Texas chainsaw massacre for example ended because poor investments on overwhelming resources that ended up in dves no longer be possible to provide new updates without destroying the game.
