So!

This may very well be my very last news report as the forum post pigeon, and boy howdy how fitting it should end on this one.

You may recall Mandy saying that they were going to send out emails to the addresses we signed up to the forums with. I imagine, however, that many of you have not received this email. Neither have I.

However, a friend of mine did receive this email. It contained the invite link to the official DbD Discord server, as well as instructions to obtain this Legacy Forum User tag. Or, really, one single instruction. For full context, this is the email they received.

Once obtained, your name will appear like this in the official DbD Discord server:

It's a maroon base, with a gold gradient effect.

With that out of the way, I just want to share my thoughts on this.

I'll just say outright that when I first saw this email, I got kinda pissed off. The onus is still on us, the forum users, to request this tag. I was under the impression this email had some kind of unique signifier that allowed us to claim it automatically. Or at the very least, grant access to some kind of dedicated room. Neither of those are the case, afaik.

I don't even particularly care for the tag. But there's a possibility others do. So, on a hunch, I followed this instruction, despite me never having received this email, and thus not officially having any knowledge of it. And, as I expected, I was granted the tag regardless, despite previous communications suggesting this email was necessary. Days_BHVR herself even implied that this email was necessary. But given that I was granted the tag without ever getting the email myself, clearly the email wasn't so important after all.

More to the point, however, what I'm annoyed by is that I had no way of knowing of these instructions if this friend hadn't informed me of them on Thursday of this week (so much for "very early this week"). Neither do any of the other forum users, unless they are among the lucky ones who did actually receive that email. I was informed by Days_BHVR there had been some sort of delay in sending out emails, but that just compounded my annoyance.

As of writing, it's Saturday. It's well-established that BHVR doesn't work on weekends. That means that we have, at most, 1 workweek to get this tag now. 5 days. Possibly less, depending on what 'late October' actually means, and the speed at which Days_BHVR is able/willing to get all of this processed. (She was lovely to me in dm's btw, no shade there.)

I'm well-aware that in the grand scheme of things this is the epitome of a non-issue. I doubt most of you were ever going to request this tag. I wasn't going to myself, either. I only pursued it because I was curious if I could get it, despite me having no official knowledge of this email, and as such, the rather rudimentary method of obtaining it.

Yet, I'm still annoyed, because it's as if you guys don't actually want us to claim this tag. Between many of my forum friends not actually receiving this email because of this supposed delay, the fact that it contained instructions that could easily have been given in a proper forum announcement (hell, the intitial forum closure announcement?), and the fact that this is all handled by 1 dev (again, no shade to her, she was lovely), this just feels like an afterthought at best. A weirdly convoluted afterthought.

With all that said, I think this is also where I'll be signing off myself.

…

How fitting that it should end with this.

If you're a forum veteran, you'll know me as the self-professed Forum Post Pigeon, one of the people that shared minor news. Teasers, store codes, other small yet relevant stories, iykyk.

The whole reason why I did that is because these small things are so easy to miss if you're not on the right platforms, at the right time. I wanted as many people as possible to have a chance to obtain those codes. Because, for whatever reason, y'all couldnt be assed to share those properly on your own damned platform. ######### FoMO. ######### Twitter. ######### Facebook.

So. That. If you're still reading, there's still a chance I might DM you for another reason. I think I already got to the vast majority I intended to get to, but there's still some time left.

There's so many more thoughts I have on the closure of the forums, and what this weird community has meant for me, but I suspect they'll fall on deaf ears. I have drafted a proper farewel post, but I might honestly just keep it to myself. It was kinda cringe, kinda melodramatic, yk. Might post it anyway at some point, who knows.

Anyway. Cheers.
