Should DBD be more...
When I started playing I used to jump when I accidentally walked by Hag’s traps lmao. Or when Myers suddenly picked me up out of nowhere from a gen (while he was in his first phase) OOF or when I’m super close to escaping or helping someone I go like OOO!!!
All of this was in the beginning of course.
But like idk nowadays I haven’t really felt like that unless I cheesed the hell out of winning.

Additional comment: I am so sorry for my extra words there I just normally talk like that. And a lot overall. JFDFHNB.0

That's it. You can only get scared at the beginning.
I don't think there will ever be a game that will make everybody scared all the time. If you play something 1000 times, it just loses its atmosphere.
Even if they made the game scary for now, tomorrow, it would still lose its atmosphere.
Jump scares are the only exception and they really are cheap.

There's only 2 ways to keep dbd scary for survivors after they've gotten used to the game. The more familiar you are with something the less scary it is.
Either have survivors be afraid of a powerful killer like nurse or to be jump scared by someone like Hag or prayer beads spirit.0 -
I will never get used to hag traps placed ten miles from loops or gens lol. For the most part tho, the horror asepct does ware off, but I don't think that's any fault of the game, since if you play any horror or scary game it's value does go down over time, sadly horror game don't tend to age very well, since alot of the time they are also graphic dependant.
Personally however, I don't think the game needs to be scary, what it needs is intensity, more of that feeling of being alone, like when you're looking for hatch when killer doesn't camp it, or you hear the TR but don't see the killer.
Another point I'd like to make is how any form of teamwork more often than not also aid in lowering the fear factor, being alone can be scary, even to those who prefer isolation, like myself.
So to answer the question properly, no I don't think it should be scary, but it should be more along the lines of a thriller which is more in line with what the game already is.0 -
It's the natural course of anything scary. It wears off. Try watching your favourite horror movie 20 times. See what I mean?
Still, devs seem to be trying their best. Prayer Beads Bracelet Spirit was a great call in that regard. Legion is not so great in the jumpscare department, but let's hope our next killer will perform better. But at any rate, not even the best game has the same kick after a few hundred hours.

Everything becomes less scary over time you as you become desensitized to it.
The only way to make it scary imo is to make survivors really fearful of being sacrificed, that is a problem in itself with this game as its essentially a huge grind to lvl up characters, anything which makes that more difficult is a problem, they would probably have to rework the whole game to be more about avoiding the killer so I don't see that ever happening.

Not paying attention versus a Amandas letter pig or Spirit with Prayer beads

Make a reduction of the terror radius for all killers similar to Myers0

Scarier than the DS change or NOED threads? ImpossibleStrange how you have 5 posts and know about the 20,000 NOED threads

I actually wouldn't mind if they aim for more spoopy stuff.
While yes, fear is subjective, and you'll get used to it eventually.
But you don't see the law get removed just cause criminals will always try to break it or go around it.2 -

Killers being powerful at all levels would definitely bring back the scare factor, because you'd know that the next step you take could be your last.

I recently watched a video and talked with a friend about what makes a game, a "horror survival" game. We narrowed it down to...
- Strong story
- Isolation
- Vulnerability
I realize Dead by daylight is not a "horror survival", which is why Vulnerability wouldn't be as necessary.
Isolation could be pulled off in a multitude of ways, that could strengthen the fear and cooperation of the team.
A strong story is currently lacking. There is no reason to fear the dark or the creatures in it....if nobody is going to tell you about them. (I know each character comes with a backstory...but I feel that it barely scratches the surface.)
If anything....dead by daylight's backstory seems set up in almost a "hell girl" anime style. Beings, once humans....lost in their anger, their grief, and fears....gave into the dark and dug two graves. Has a bittersweet melancholic feel to it.

Survivors dont fear being around the killer, thats all there is to lament.
