What is the new Matchmaking System?

I have heard people talking about it, but dont see what it actually is. Some people complain, some like it, but, I still dont know what makes it different.
Did they remove the "Match people of similar rank?" or something else?

It was updated in a way that seemed a bit confusing for us to understand, but I’m sure the devs needed it for info? Basically, lower ranks were paired with higher ranks to put it simply. Whether or not it’s still going on like that is unknown at the moment.
