Is Up the Ante the most ridiculous/less used perk?
because 1% is really a unnoticeable luck???

Hey, it's 3% on tier 3. That's basically a free self-unhook. 😛
2 -
yup, thats waaaaay better than Deliverance kappa
1 -
With Up The Ante and Slippery Meat, you have a 64.9% chance to self-unhook. Up The Ante also affects item quality in chests and both affect attempts to escape from traps. Luck probably affects even more things we're not aware of.

Well Hangman's trick is a perk that exists...
0 -
Honestly, I found it to be quite useful. Prevents deadzones intentionally created by survivors and all around guarantees you will never run out of hooks.
2 -
I never found a good use of it, perks like Iron Grasp or Agitation seem to stop any deadzones anyway, plus you can always wait out the survivor if you slug them in their area, just wait for a hook to spawn. Providing they're last survivor that is.
0 -
But hooks broken by sacrifices do not respawn... unless you use Hangman's Trick. Iron Grasp is worthless, doesn't even add two seconds of wiggle time.
2 -
But I wouldn't hook everybody in a corner unless I know that there's reachable hooks, otherwise I'll slug to win. Most times they either crawl under a hook or bleedout.
0 -
Back when it was released, I considered it way overrated. Then the hype for it died down and people dont really use it anymore.
0 -
With Hangman's Trick, you don't need to slug nor care about where you hook them.
Maybe it doesn't work for you because you have better map awareness than I do, but I have a very poor sense of orientation, so it's useful for me.
0 -
Perhaps, or either I'm more toxic in my willingness to slug, so I see no real need for Hangmans.

Up the Ante at Tier 3 gives 3% for each OTHER survivor. So it provides a bonus of 9% for everyone as long as 3 survivors are alive. Added to the 4% bonus, each escape attempt you have
13% w/ all four still alive when first hooked
- 87% chance at failure
10% w/ three still alive when first hooked
- 90% chance at failure
7% w/ teo still alive when first hooked
- 93% chance at failure
0% for the last survivor if solo since it’s an insta-dead
A perk to pair with this one is Slippery Meat which will give 1/2/3 more attempts to escape.
If you use Vigo’s Jar of Salty Lips, it’ll increase your escape chance by 3%. If all four survivors use it, it’ll add a 12% chance if escape thus:
25% w/ all four still alive when first hooked
- 75% chance at failure
22% w/ three still alive when first hooked
- 78% chance at failure
19% w/ teo still alive when first hooked
- 81% chance at failure
0% for the last survivor if solo since it’s an insta-dead
The chance of escape is s also highly dependent on certain perameters. For example if escape is done by generating a number, it might be a circumstance that it is a guaranteed escape if the number 1-4 is generated out of 100. This would make it so that each time you try and escape it is still unlikely you will make it out thought, slightly more likely.
They could have it set up where once a number has been generated for an escape attempt, say 83 was generated, it couldn’t be generated the second or third escape(4th, 5th, 6th w/ slippery meat)
that would mean the second attempt has 99 numbers to pick from, the third has 98, etc.
it could also be that your escape precentage chooses that many numbers out of 100 randomly, and a complicated algorithm picks numbers at “random”.
The 4 salty lips scenario is not very likely though, I’ve probably played 2 games with that circumstance in my two years and one was specifically planned.
in the end using these perks won’t guarantee an escape in a game because the odds will always be against you for one, but you will get an escape maybe one out of every 3 games if you try and escape instead of waiting it out and hoping for a rescue.

The increased chance for unhooking yourself is op. The perk should have a downside. If any survivor fails to get unhooked and gets sacrificed, then all other survivors (hooked or not) immediately get sacrificed together.

Can I ask what your source is regarding luck affecting chest items? I've never seen a credible source that confirms this. The DBD Wikipedia (not that I automatically assume that it is 100% correct) has no mention of this as well.
1 -
devs have spoken about wanting luck to effect item rarity from chests in the last, and it seems they implemented it after the last event where they expanded the chance of finding items of all rarity types
0 -
My source is common sense. It's RNG-based, therefore luck should affect it.

Up The Ante along with Plunderers Instinct and Ace In The Hole and any luck offerings makes for one happy survivor. Throw in a chest offering from anyone and an objective on your own and search chests = Profit

@Orion @AlphaJackson You guys do know that Hangman's Trick affects how fast Bear Traps respawn, right?
0 -
Ok? but that's literally one singular killer who has a better version of the perk in the form of iredesant stone.
0 -
Add-ons are single-use items.
0 -
You're forgetting that the percentage is per attempt, with a minimum of 3 attempts, following a binomial distribution.
0 -
Problem with Hangman's is you're giving up 1/4 of your perks for a perk that will rarely if ever be relevant because sabotaging is so uncommon now. It's more likely you'll just end up wasting a perk slot, even on Trapper.
0 -
If we had more perk slots we could experiment with low-tier perks
currently everyone just equips the strongest perks due to the lack of slots
1 -
Up the ante is very good actually, 9% to every rng is huge. Problem is, there are no rngs in game. Its not perk beeing bad, its lack of luck implications in game.
Gens could have technician effect chance based on luck for example.
@ClogWench last time i used it, it was broken. Hooks after sacrifices did not come back. Live on stream xD. Bitter murmur is bugged too, eh.
0 -
That's not how it would go, and you know it. People would just equip a fifth powerful perk.
2 -
so the perks that even broken none cares about, are the weakests
0 -
No one's gonna use a 5th slot for a weak perk. It'll just be a 5th op perk
0 -
...or not (you missed)
0 -
Yes, they would. It's what they're doing now, it's what they'd do in that hypothetical scenario. Why are you pretending otherwise?
0 -
I wanted to equip "Up the Ante" as 5th slot to check its feasibility
0 -
And then you find out it sucks and drop it for something good instead.
0 -
Hence the idea I'd been working on solved that by limiting what you could actually use that 5th perk slot for. It also limited what other perks you could use so basically you couldn't use more than 1 unique perk of another survivor.
You also had to equip at least 2 of your own unique perks and the 5th perk slot was for your own perk and gave bonuses to that perk only on a scaling individual perk level.
It was 5th perk slot and it was called the Prime perk slot, but given how the DS nonsense has drowned out any good ideas lately I'm not going to bother even posting what I'd done.
0 -
Equip it as a 4th perk instead. Problem solved.
0 -
I dont wanna overplay, my time's worth~~ and dont wanna renounce to my build
@powerbats ur idea is cool, but survs with base crappy perks like Ace got harmed
0 -
If you're that dependent on perks to survive, then you'd definitely just equip another crutch perk.
0 -
I equip Bond, DH, DS and Deliverance for the max fun, 2nd chances build call it
0 -
While someone else has probably already said this: Fire Up is a more useless perk than Up The Ante. It lets you do everything "slightly" faster after all generators are done. Some say the bonus is so negligible that it is unnoticeable to the human eye.
0 -
They could add a 5th perk if the limit the type of perks you can use. However, that would require for perks to be classified first...
0 -
Don't worry, when in 5yrs we got 122 (one hundred and twenty two) it will be unbearable to play just with 4 slots, so incremented to 5-8 or at least new perk mechanisms
0 -
It only affects those 3 things. I remember the devs stating that when they were asked about luck in an interview
0 -
No that's Monstrous Shrine.
0 -
They're planning a luck rework in the future
0 -
Wait, I thought luck didn't affect chests. Didn't Mathieu mention that in a dev stream? I could be wrong, of course. Hell, I kinda hope I am! Might start using Up the Ante more if it affects chests 😁
0 -
Yeah, seems I was wrong about that.
0 -
Not worth taking except going all in for a Luck Meme Build imo
