Killers could use more perk slots

I forget which thread I saw this in, but someone mentioned how the power dynamics between killer and survivors are such as being relatively equal because survivor perks are just as, if not stronger than, killer perks and much less situational. When you think about it, it’s true. Killers are not as strong as they probably should be in an asymmetrical game like this.

Survivors have 4 perk slots, an item slot, and two add on slots. They don’t need to burn an offering to keep their items and add ons (they can, but they don’t have to.) They don’t need to go through the bloodweb to replace said items and add ons because chests are usually readily available. And depending on the item, it can have a HUGE impact on the game especially with coordination. As for the perks, they definitely enhance the game experience (so no, I am not advocating to nerf or eliminate survivor choice) but they are all helpful in advancing the survivor objective and survival without much sacrifice on the survivor’s part.

Meanwhile killers also have 4 slots, a built in item/power, and add ons they need wards etc to keep (or limit their add on to 1 effectively.) Yet the difference is rather stark because survivors have much more perk diversity and versatility to help achieve their one and only goal: get gens done and survive. Killers have multiple goals and multiple hurdles they need to overcome across just 4 perk slots. They can either:

  • Defend against item rushes and blinds
  • Protect gens and hinder gen progress
  • Focus on tracking survivors
  • Protect against stuns
  • Hinder and/or expose survivors at the expense of destructible hex totems; effectively playing with 3 or less perks
  • Protect against the endgame; you will be playing with 3 or less perks for 90% of the game.
  • Protect against sabotage and body blocks

But they cannot do it all. Killers must sacrifice 1 or more objectives to enhance another. Even a Jack of All Trades build cannot actually be a Jack build like a survivor can because there will always be at least 1 or more weakness that cannot be afforded in a game where time is money (especially against a sweat with friends group,) and it could be argued that a Killer Jack build is essentially putting the killer in a more difficult position than if they had made a build specializing in 1 aspect.

Moreover, against seasoned sweat with friends, killers are automatically at a disadvantage by essentially only having 4 perks vs their 16 + built in perks they gain by being in a coordinated group.

I think it would be beneficial if killers could have 6-8 slots. They are supposed to be the power role after all.
