Anyone know how the rule "stream sniping" works?

What I mean, is that when something fishy happens because I saw you from across the map, saw scratch marks from across the map, know most spawns by heart, and it happens to be the streamers. Seems like a weird rule imo with the ways people could be falsely banned.

Stream Sniping is when you actively watch another player's stream while playing against them to obtain real time information of where they are in game. Currently, the devs have posted that they are not going to ban people for streamsniping. I disagree with this stance as it is a purely toxic action to do so and players who engage in sniping in DBD openly admit that they do it when they get caught by streamers. Other games ban for verifiable stream snipes though.

As far as I know you can basically stream snipe the living ######### out of every streamer and the devs won't do anything about that.

No clue why, and I'm not sure how other games handle stream sniping but I'm pretty sure if a player admits he stream sniped he will get banned in other big games.

The issue, in theory, is that streamsniping is impossible to prove outside of a literal confession. In practice, streamers have tools they can use to avoid snipers, starting by not turning their names into billboards.

Yeah, and I think one part of the issue not to be able to prove someone stream sniped is that DbD does not have a playback mechanic (something like the cinema mode in some shooters) to watch every perspective playing. And also the mods won't have the time anyway I guess.

Honestly i have a hard time feeling bad for people that get stream sniped in this game. When you put your Twitch name as your steam name and then a link to your twitch in the steam description page you are pretty much asking for someone to take advantage of you.

Personally, I don't like playing with streamers. They should be required to get permission from other players before streaming, or have to blur out player names. They should not be able to profit off of other people's actions. Thus, I see streamer in my lobby, I load a mori just for them. I don't want them in my games.

I don't usually like any form of camp/tunnel, but streamers are the lowest of the low in my opinion.

If only there was a way to delay your stream by a minute... oh wait, there is.

Stream sniping only happens to idiots.

It's a non problem too. I mean, streamsniping, though not bannable, is dirty. But if you worry about it, just don't stream...

Streamsniping is inherently impossible to conclusively prove unless the sniper themselves also stream themselves doing it, or they confess to doing it. Trying to "prove" it based on "evidence" is not a path you want to go, just look at controversies like PUBG punishing people for it or the infamous Ninja rage in Fortnite.

Streamers have the ability to make it far less likely to happen anyway. Use an alias and don't put their url as their actual name on steam for starters.

The issue of screen sniping comes when someone uses it to grief the streamer.

If the streamer is going to stream their matches they have to accept some responsibility for streaming their match. If they don't like being stream sniped, then they shouldn't stream their matches then... or use some methods to make sniping more difficult.

And using their stream to locate where they are.. isn't griefing.. that is tough luck for that streamer. But if I use it to run you around in a match as a survivor for 30 minutes and hold you hostage in your match because of it.. then that is an issue.

    Bless the developers!

I love to get real time information from a streamer dumb enough to transmit live and use his/her stream user as a player name.

I always thanks them for the information afterwards. I get to kill them easily and they get one more viewer (for a couple of minutes) and everyone is happy, at least I am (That's the important part).

If you hold someone hostage, thats bannable no matter whether you are stream sniping or not.

THe devs have been pretty clear that stream sniping is not bannable
