You can accurately gauge the skill of a survivor....
Based on if they think Freddy is OP, Balanced, or weak as hell.
They think Freddy is OP:
Most likely a rank 15 or below survivor who can't escape a killer outside of pallet looping them.
They think Freddy is balanced:
Moderately skilled Survivor but struggles in most post rank 14 matches though often manages to at least keep themselves from depiping.
They think Freddy is weak as hell:
Most likely a rank 5 or above survivor main with top tier perks and often escapes in most matches.

Oh I remember when I started to play killer (2018 August or around): survivors in my games were at each other's throats, arguing about "Freddy is OP" vs "Freddy is horribly weak"...

The only person your trying to convince Freddy isn't a joke is yourself at this point as EVERYONE knows he is. If he was balanced, the devs wouldn't give reworking him a single thought. They would have summed it up as: Players just complaining as usual.
But instead they not only discussed it but have PLANNED to do a rework on Freddy.

Hell, even rank 15 Freddy would be EXTREMELY LUCKY if he gets a single sacrifice in any match. Hell, the only way to almost guarantee a kill is to pack an ultra-rare mori and even then, fat chance hooking a survivor even ONCE.

The only real grind comes at the very end.

This isn't an accomplishment. The ranking system is an absolute joke that only cares about how much you've played since the latest rank reset. Because of this, rank is no way to gauge skill. The rank 1 survivor you go up against could be amazing or they could be terrible.

You don't usually see Freddy in higher ranks and his power really doesn't help in chases. Being able to see people at a distance is strong and his terror radius can be small, which is quite good, but he has to put people asleep. I'm honestly not sure what to do with him, though.

I mean I play Freddy at red ranks from time to time and still get pretty consistent 2-4k's but I do think his add ons need change since they don't effect much

Not anymore but when I used to, it was stupidly hard to sacrifice a single survivor in most cases I'd manage to hook one with the exit gates powered thanks to NOED(which is basically required for Freddy due to how weak he is.) find the totem, cleanse it, and then they'd just run up and unhook them not caring that I put them to sleep and then they'd all run to the exit bodyblocking each other and then stand at the exit knowing they've got a free escape while teabagging you for being stupid enough to pick Freddy in the first place.
Normally I'd call teabagging at the exit toxic but if your stupid enough to pick Freddy at rank 14 or above then you deserve it. :/
PS: Those who say rank doesn't mean a thing have no skill.

I'm consistently a rank 1 survivor and I find Freddy matches a lot to be honest. I don't think he's weak as hell at all. I don't get why people think he is. 🤦♂️
