Thoughts after a few months playing...

I got addicted to this game quickly. I play as Survivor Solo Main PS4. I still feel like I have a lot to learn. I thought I would share some of my thoughts. This is just from my perspective and experience and is in no way meant to offend or annoy anyone since that seems so easy to do in this forum from the tons of posts I've read.

For me the game is more about having fun and earning BP along the way. I love 3rd person horror survival and the whole comradery (which is rare in solo but great when you find it) of working in a team. Kate is my favorite and I love the cool outfits available. I'm all about the visuals. I started playing this game because F13 died out.

After playing awhile, I got so frustrated by the constant camping and tunneling that I thought if I got to a high rank, that would minimize those instances. I somehow got to rank 3. Although it didn't occur nearly as often as it did at the lower ranks, I was still surprised by the camping and tunneling (mostly the latter). I've read a lot of posts on here to try & understand why people do what they do in certain circumstances. I understand the need for killers to camp/tunnel toxic survivors that constantly teabag, excessively pallet loop, etc. I never tea bag killers (I hate it) & my chases are usually minimal because I'm not good at juking. I have to stun or try to lose them. Despite that fact, I still would get camped/tunneled in approx. 80% of my matches with the exception of the high rank (90% since update). Plus the killer will sit there and slug me and I'm thinking, "What did I do?" I don't do anything to purposefully piss them off. Although I liked the ability, altruism and cooperation of most of the survivors at the high level, I hated the ridiculously long wait times for a match (only is some cases to have the host dodge the lobby) and that most of the killers were so OP that I rarely survived and earned so little BPs compared to the killer despite all the effort I put in.

I started the new season at 11 and I'm kind of upset with myself because I hate to DCN as I feel that goes against the whole team effort idea, but lately I find myself doing just that as I reached my breaking point with the camping, tunneling after every hook and leaving survivors on ground to search for other survivors. I had a match the other night (& many similar to this before) where the killer left me on the ground to search for the other survivor making me bleed out my entire health bar. That's ridiculous. I could've been in a new match by then. That is such a waste of time specially since it's hard to earn a lot of BP as a solo survivor. I can't believe how often this has been happening especially since the update. It seems most killers cannot allow even one person the possibility of escaping even if it is at the expense of someone else's time. I know many will disagree, but I think that is extremely rude. Of course, I understand there are times when this is warranted. In my case, the other survivor was nowhere near me or the killer. I had a game last night where 2 people DCN (one a start & other shortly thereafter) and I went to unhook the other survivor and the killer was face camping him. I thought maybe he was allowing us to unhook/earn points since we were severely handicapped. Nope. I guess he was pissed at the 2 DCN and decided to take it out on us.

I still love the game itself. I just hate what you have to deal with in solo survivor mode. I'll play 10 matches and if I'm lucky, I'll get 2 good ones.  From the recent posts I've read, I agree that they need to implement a change that improves solo play. I tried getting people together for SWF before, but the wait times were too long. I assume that was because of the big gap in levels. Perhaps I need to keep trying to find people for SWF, try to pip to a high rank again or keep practicing being the killer, which I suck at. As a gamer who has zero experience playing 1st person, naturally I suck at it. Have the wait times improved for the higher ranks since the update?

Sorry for the lengthiness of this post and thanks for listening.

I feel bad for you, this is how it is in DBD, when a killer runs up to you close, start doing some turns and wiggle away from the shot, loop them around windows and pallets, my reccomendation is that you run No Mither, Unbreakable and Decisive Strike with Dead Hard. You avoid hits, you can get up after getting downed, and if they pick you up, no problem.

Another thing on that, Survivors and Killers alike deal with toxic people all the time.

    o0Magic_Man0o_ is my PSN.

Takes time to learn against it, play some KYF.

It isnt always you. Sometimes a toxic SWF pisses off a killer so much that he will be mad for several matches after that.

I know it somtimes sucks, but if you dont wanna be threatened by the killer, then why do you play survivor in the first place?

If you are bad at killer, there is only one thing that helps you - practice (oh and play some of the viable killers....)

I appreciate the suggestions and feedback. I love being a survivor. I'm a huge horror fan and have always loved the chase. Of course, it was so much easier in F13. I could last way longer when the killer focused all his attention on me. I am starting to practice a lot more as the killer though. The easiest one for me is The Hag. I haven't used him much, but I've leveled Leatherface up because I eventually want the high BP gains from BBQ.

I've been playing longer but have the same experience as you.

Getting to red ranks is more fun because the killers play better. Less camping & tunneling, more action.

Camping IS a legit strategy, but when that strategy becomes the goto tactic right at the start of the game for the majority of killers that's when it becomes a problem.

It's always the lesser players that do it too. I feel NOED kind of provides a safety net that lets them get away with it also. They aren't too good at chases which is understandable as they can be much harder to learn how to tackle as killer than it is to perform them as survivor.

I started watching the pros play on twitch and it made me a much better player. Now I do ok and can end chases in good time. I get that not everyone has the time or motivation to do that. I feel perhaps more tips and tutorials could be beneficial in the game.

Hello there! After reading your post I couln't let it pass, mostly because that was the way i felt when I joined the game too.

I started to play in December and just like you, I was addicted to it. Would literally wake up early to play and scream my lungs out of fear and laughs. Like you said, the frustation of being camped and tunneled made me want to get better at survivor and don't get caught. After reaching rank 2 at that time, I noticed I got stuck at this rank, sometimes bouncing to 3 and in this moment a realization crosses my mind: in order to be a good survivor, I would have to play killer.

When you play killer you understand why camping and tunneling aren't bannable, though is discouranged and I think that's really nice. This means you play by your own rule, although you do know what they (devs and survivors) expect from you by what the some perks and emblems implies.

People being rude exist in every game and sadly I don't have an idea on how we could improve this matter in dbd. Is ironic seeing people complain about teabagging while they spam their attack on a hooked survivor or when they leave you to bleed out on purpose. Sometimes, the simple act of stunning a killer is enough to make your first hook the last.

What I could say at least is: don't take those things so seriously. In the end of the day, this is just a game and it doesn't affect in anything in my life, nor should it. Maybe give it a time by playing other things, since is healthy having other experiences. Dbd look like Herman Carter's spark: a curse and a gift. Is a awesome game, a masterpiece by uniting the engaging gameplay, good graphics and unique feelings of horror, survival and cooperation. The problem is that there's no game like it, and people stay eve when they have enough

I think there is a need to differentiate between strategic camping and tunneling vs it being the entire strategy.

I get strategic use of them and never fuss about it when I play survivor. Hook swarm, last hook, toxic survivor, 1 gen left and need to slow game down, etc.

It's when those are the primary tactic used. From the beginning the killer camps and tunnels. This drives players nuts. In most cases, it is done for that purpose. The player is a toxic pissant and wants you to get salty. (I hate that stupid word) The killer will taunt during and after matches just to get a rise.

Like toxic survivor self's, this is very bad for the game. Many survivors are quitting because it is so common. Some, like myself, moved to killer months ago due to it. It is easily 30% or more why many DC early in matches. Pure frustration. If you ran 4 matches and were camped or tunneled in each, then were downed within the first minute of the 5th, you may have had enough by then. 5 matches with less than 30k BP is very frustrating. (Seen it happen to my wife on many occasions. She is legally blind and not great in chases.)

How do you police that or fix it?
