Is DBD actually better broken?

Now I know this is gonna sound insane, but I constantly find myself coming back to this game regardless of how frustrating or even broken some things can be at certain times.

I personally like having both sides having broken things. I feel it can be really satisfying to use these tools and get the upper hand on a killer/ survivor. Things like instaheals or decisive or Noed, Moris etc. all add to the hook of the game in a strange way.

A good example of a game that changed drastically for the worst is Overwatch, at launch, so many characters were busted and I found myself coming back for more and more. Then Overwatch League became a huge part of the game. they started balancing everything around high skill players and what they wanted. And I get some people like this better, but for a more casual player like me naaah.

Soon after this I found myself becoming quite disinterested with the game since I didn’t get that satisfying feeling like I used to.

I suppose the point of this whole post is DBD is supposed to be a casual fun game. Not some sweaty esports game where everything must be perfectly balanced or else people chuck their keyboards out the window. Just have fun people and don’t take things so seriously.

I do think some things could use just a bit for tweaking for the health of the game, but overall I want things that are a bit broken to stay in the game tbh.

What do you guys think? And what keeps you coming back to DBD despite its “broken” status atm?

It is a fun, non competitive game if you play it like that! There is BS on both sides but if you just ignore that and play how you want it can be fun.

Completely agree with the Overwatch comparison, ever since they started adjusting around OWL it has just become frustrating.

    A casual fun game?

Then I just ask, why do we have a competitive rankign system and dont evne have the chance to opt out of it via a casual mode?

This is why we need a Casual as a matchmaking option instead of only Ranked.

And no, KYF does not count, that is private matchmaking.

I agree about the whole balancing thing, though. The same thing happened with Siege. I loved that game. Grinded for all the dlc operators as hard as I could, bought attachments for everyone (I was severely p*ssed off when they made attachments and base operators free, especially because they didn't give anyone their renown back). They changed the game based on what Pro League wanted, and it just doesn't feel the same. I hardly ever touch Siege anymore. I usually play DbD more than anything else.

I agree, also maybe different queue options. Ranked and unranked, survivors cannot squad up for ranked if the rank gap is too big, only 2 survivors squad up at the red ranks in swf like identity v. That game handles some balance pretty well.

I do agree that the rank system should be addressed. Before the old system made more sense, it was super easy to rank up, but it was a casual game, so who cares. But now in order to rank up. You reaaaally have to be trying. You could make the argument to just ignore rank all together too which is valid, since it doesn’t do anything but help with matchmaking.

Maybe, there can be ranking or match making based on some ratios...but swf screws that up lol.

There isn't anything to compare, all we have had is broken...

I wouldn't mind that stuff in a separate game mode called casual, cuz well that stuff is casual and unbalanced for a pvp game. In ranked mode I would separate those crutch/broken stuff out.

You would find me 99% of the time playing ranked cuz I would not like to deal with all that stuff in casual mode. Just saying tho.

This game is so broke because the devs are too lazy and conceded to fix it...

@Master we dont. We have a "Rank" system to assist with mmr.

Just because it says it's your rank doesnt make the game ranked.

It's literally to better suit lobbies. Thats it.

    The ENTIRE GAME is casual.

Some people playing their best and being hard opponents doesn't change that.

No I don't find broken bullshit fun at all.

The only time I use mories is when I have a daily.

I might have used 5 to 6 insta heals and I have something like 1k hours alone in survivors.

I don't understand why people find broken stupid stuff fun. I also don't understand why people feel like they need to cheat in games.

Of course, I can't decide what is fun or not fun for you but for me, I have fun when I overcome a difficult situation. Dark soul games, Nioh, old rogue games were and are really fun for me.

You have killed 4 survivors because you used iri head + infantry belt with an ebony mori, woow congrats man you achieved the impossible.

I will never be able to understand this.

The only reason rank exists os because they don't want some rank 20 player get steamrolled by a group of higher tiered players. There are no rank rewards. It's not competitve.

Overwatch never got balanced for high skilled players, if they did bastion and mei wouldn't be so bad its consider throwing to pick them in comp and soldier 76 would be just as viable as mcree. Overwatch has terrible balance because blizzard is too much of a wuss to do the actual balancing the game needs. Too many people would complain, its stupid and so they try and do half and half ######### that makes the game worse for everyone.

@Delfador it’s subjective as I’m sure you’re aware. many people agree with me, but are too afraid to come out and say that the game might be a bit better broken instead.

@PeepingPeacock Blizzard does their balance based around the common player, the casual. Of that you are correct. And that is because, especially since 2004 and WoW, the casual player base has been their bread and butter. It's how they've made their billions.

The casuals are the ones that will play the game, and then run out and buy the Legos, and the action figures, and the T-shirts in greater volume. The hardcores and pros play to be competitive and the top guys. It's a different mindset and connection to the game. I don't care if it's Overwatch, HoTS, or WoW Mythic Raiding or Arena PvP.

It's the casuals that make Blizzard the most money. That's why, although they always throw a bone to the competitive players, the core of their games are always casual designed. WoW is, Hearthstone is, Heroes of the Storm is, and so is Overwatch.

I'm telling you this as someone who has been a Blizzard player since 1994 when Warcraft: Orcs and Humans released. Who's been in every title they've released since then for 25 years now. And who's seen how and where Blizzard made their billions since 2004. If anyone comes to a Blizzard game expecting an actual Competitive Game or experience, they're coming to the wrong game developer.

Even the Overwatch League isn't aimed at the hardcore viewers. That's why Blizzard has a broadcast deal with Disney for it to be broadcast on ESPN-3 (a general sports channel), ABC (a mainstream, average-Joe channel) and Disney XD (demographic of 6-13 years old). It's why Jake (Houston Outlaws) and others were on morning talk shows during season one talking about Overwatch. Shows that the average person watches before work in the morning. It's aimed at the casual, everyday person who might like what they see and want to buy the game (now a permanent $20 MSRP to make it easier to decide to buy) and then buy the lootboxes, along with some licensed products like the Lucio cereal, Legos, and the upcoming action figure line from Hasbro.

Blizzard was called the Disney of the Video Game Industry back in 2017 by both Forbes and Variety for a reason.
