Confession of a D/Cer
I'm going to out myself here. I'm doing it in an effort to start a discussion about the problem past the usual "let's ban d/cers." Don't get me wrong. I am 100% behind a d/c ban. But as I have stated before in an in-depth thread, this wont solve the actual problem. It will help, absolutely, but there's more to this problem then people dcing. Because there is a reason they d/c.
For a long time I refused to D/C. I was Hard Core. But after the pipping changes made it so people dcing cost me my Red Rank, I asked myself "Why am i trying so hard? I can't get the hooks or chases I need in three or less person games."
So I started playing survivor more. Cause that was my "relax role" where I thought I didn't care. But I thought wrong. I don't know how many games it took me to start dcing once I saw the first person d/c on their first hook. But somehow it became a habit I have to actively fight.
I know what you are thinking. "Smoke, a d/c ban would fix this."
Will it? Sure it'll reduce how often it happens. But the frustration is still there. In the current pipping system, Killers are urged to tunnel. The devs know this, so they made DS counter this gameplay. But using a perk to fix a systemic problem they caused, isn't the answer. In fact, the only 3 DLC i dont' own is Halloween, Freddy, and Ash. So the answer to tunneling isn't even in my toolbox, even though I've spent.... I dunno... A bunch... On DLC.
So what will fix it? I have a list here of a handful of things I feel would fix the problem.
1: A D/c penalty needs to be applied. As of right now a survivor can d/c a game, and get a new one in a moment or two.
A 5 minute ban that escalates each time you d/c would fix this. Most other games have it, and it doesn't hurt, and definately curbs some of it.
2: "Tough Game" incentives. Games go bad for each side. Survivors will rush gens down in less then 5 mins some games. In other games a survivor might get a bad save from a teammate, and get thrown right back onto the hook to die.
These aren't things the player can do much about. So getting a chunk of extra points after the game so it doesn't feel like a waste of my life would be nice.
3: Give an incentive to use less used killers. Dailies are horrible. They tend to make you play a certain way to complete them in a single game, and that game usualy isn't fun. At least for me, and I've heard similar complaints from others. Instead give an after game bp bonus for using killers like Clown, Trapper, Doctor, ect.
It isn't hard for them to keep a metric of what's been used recently and then give out bonus'. This will help convince that Hag main to play something else. But to go with that...
4: Make rank per killer: Once I get to red ranks, there's 2 killers I use almost all the time. Hag and Spirit. I know them, I know how to deal with stuff with them. I'm confident with them. But what if I want to learn the Pig? I have to wait until rank reset. except... everyone my rank is the new rank, so that doesn't work either. People getting stomped on a killer they are trying to learn, will likely d/c
5:This is a pipe dream but...: Rework the bloodweb. All survivors and killers should start with all 4 perk slots open, and all perks they grinded up on other survivors/killers should be unlocked at rank 1 (and need to be leveled) It's absolutely dumb that they want people to go into games with 1 underpowered perk. Especially after i spent 10 hours grinding someone else for a perk to be unlocked for others.
6: BP incentives for rank: Give people of better rank higher bp rewards. This will give people a reason to stay at rank 1.
7: Make a ranked season last for a whole chapter: You aren't going to bring people back in the middle of the month to start playing for no reason. This thought is kinda absurd. People come back to playing because of new content, and bug fixes. So your seasons should reflect that. If you did this, it would feel a lot less pointless to reach rank 1. Many people don't have the time I have to play your game. Most of my friends regain their proper rank at the end of the season. Which means you have higher skilled players trolling lower skilled players most of the month.
@not_Queen @Peanits I've outed myself to some hate (lets face it, half the people that will throw hate are dcing too) so ya'll might get a better answer to the problem. Sure it's just my opinion, but it is an opinion taken from experience and talking with people in the community.
edit: I also want to point out that the current algorithm for banning is massively flawed. Since I play so many games, I will never, EVER, be banned under the current system. I don't even worry about it. My reason for trying to not d/c has nothing to do with fear. It has to do with being the change.

I guess the biggest reason why they haven't added a dc ban to the game yet is that some people legitimately d/c due to connectivity issues and they don't want to punish players who d/c on accident but for sure add a penalty for pressing the leave match button because those are obviously blatant rage quitters

@legion_main Well, d/cing ont the hash-mark screen costs you nothing but your offering. And that's what the connection issue is. Beyonfd that, you can see the ping before you start the game.
ie: When survivor i never play vs a killer with higher then 140 ping
as killer i don't play vs survivors with above 150 ping.
I just leave the lobby

Devotion too feels useless.. It could at least try to give a token of sorts for a cosmetic set for a character... Something like the legacy(not visually necessarily but take that as example) but would just be a devotion reward... Sure it would be kinda hard to do for licensed characters but at least for the others... If not they could do some particles and stuff ... like they had for the lunar event.. Something... Anything really

Devs need to remove ranks...that's all there is to it. Originally used as a matchmaking tool for player, the thought was that it was a bonus to give payers something to play towards.
Ranks have had nothing but a negative effect of players. Devs can't get the pip system down, and use it in an effort to control player behavior. Problem is, most of these actions are out of the players control. As a killer, I hook a survivor, s/he dies on hook...there went a ton of emblem points. As a killer, I did my part. Survivor made a mistake, I capitalized on it, downed them, hooked them, and get less because they made sure they couldn't get saved. Interesting part about it...survivors lose out as well. Escaping becomes more difficult, no altruism points, no co-op points.
The rank system doesn't work unless players play exactly like the system is designed to reward players for being played.
I slug the 2nd to last survivor of every match, especially if I see them working on a gen. I use them as bait to see if the last survivor will at least attempt to help, or if they are just being non-productive hidey little bitches waiting for the hatch, The Devs think the killer closing the hatch will remove the hatch stand off situation....oh hell naws! The real hatch stand off takes place between survivors long before the killer finds the 2nd to last survivor.
Remove ranks, remove pips, and just play the damn game.

I agree with the sentiment. But not the that rank needs to be removed. We have a solid playerbase. A playerbase with a range of skills.
I don't know about you, but when I'm a killer vs yellows or greens, i get bored. They don't understand the spacing for loops, how to push gens and save people off hooks, or how to juke me with lines of sight.
They absolutely need to fix the ranking system though. i hate having my points as a killer dictated by survivors. Ie: It's really annoying that I lose points for them healing. If i am putting enough pressure on the survivors to force them to heal out of their injured state, I'm doing things right.

@FSB75 Remove ranks and you will just got a bunch of instances where a rank 1 is against a rank 20 and it will be a mess.
Ranks serve a purpose. Despite what people say, rank DOES mean something. If you are red rank, especially after the most recent changes, then you definitely know how to play the game. You might not be the best player but you will crush any newbie you come across.

I am not a good player but somehow i got rank 7 ... now game is too annoying to play it and i am asking how the hell is this rank system still works ... on higher ranks game is just annoying, i can only see nurses, billies, spirits and legions... it is sad how entire fun from game disappeared... and when i dont have fun from game i just DC ... The worst is that i dont even feel bad, because i see how big tryharders and toxic killers and survivors on these ranks are. I know i will get many votes down but why should i care if game is boring and serious ...

@tomikomPL They recently buffed survivor pipping, after heavilly nerfing Killers pipping.
This means that it is now easier for survivors to rank, but harder for killers.
The obvious reprecussion of this is you. Someone playing against people far more skilled then them, and using a top tier killer. (except Legion...Just hit him in the face with a pallet, t-bag till he gets frenzy back, and hop back over the pallet when he comes after you so he runs out of his frenzy again. then t bag more) (alt: Use Lithe. lithe hard counters legion)
Many people pointed out that this was what would be happening when they said they were going to do it. But BHVR knows best.

My apologies for my semantics. HIDE ranks. Should help with clarity.
