Perception is Reality
This is just a quick story of something that happened last night.
So I'm using The Spirit to do my daily ritual (hit a survivor right after phasing 4 times). We go to Gideon and I get the 4K (after literally shutting the hatch on a survivor’s toes!)
I’m actually not very good with Spirit and though I haunted around quite a bit, I was very ineffective with it. In the last half of the match, I stopped using it altogether. I only earned 1 out of my 4 Ritual hits. Yes, I used add ons, but they didn’t help.
Now here’s the fun part. One of the survivors sends me a message after the match saying something along the lines of “That Spirit! OP AF!”
The perception is that she’s overpowered, even though the ability with add-ons only netted me one extra hit! The rest of the time I just ran and attacked like any other killer!
But as the title says, perception is reality. If the Spirit gets 4K, it must be because she’s OP, right?

Spirit OP? No.
Prayer Beads Spirit OP? Yes.
She is also a top 3 killer even without prayer beads. When you 4k with a top tier killer survivor babies will always complain.

I'd actually say most killers and survivors alike think she's one of the most balanced killers alongside Huntress.

Prayer Beads = grown man screaming = fun. What other killer does that?
1 -
That's how I feel when someone talks about Freddy or Doctor being good because they get 4ks. It's not really reflective on the character, so much as the players themselves.

All Killers are 4x more powerful than any 1 Survivor because it's 4v1

Mirror myers and even just a good tier one myers tbh

possibly ghostface.

Myers doesn't have nearly the speed as Spirit though. Plus spirit at least gets that 115% speed and normal lunge range to boot.
1 -
Yeah I agree and I was literally about to say I felt a little shamed by the good tier 1 myers part (mirror is a given), I'm addicted to tier 2 + M&A + dead rabbit, you can still get grabs/surprises in if you're good enough and you aren't completely useless in a chase if they react fast enough (plus you can keep ew3 surprises). Ghostface might do it though given he can turn off his red stain by the look of the gameplay video.

I don't think they're OP, but they do give you hooks that often times survivors literally can't avoid at all.
2 -
It is strong for sure, but as you said, it's not op, It has solid counters.

I'm not trying to start an argument with this, but can you give me some examples of counters? Besides watching grass to see if it moves which is unreliable, I can't really think of anything.
2 -
@ClogWench Doesn't spine chill counter it? I'm not siding (I'm actually with you prayer beads is cheap), it's rarely run though and especially not for the odd chance of facing this one addon

It does I think, but taking a relatively mediocre perk to counter an add-on to a killer, both of which are only a chance of being used, isn't what I'd call a consistent counter.

@ClogWench I don't know if I'd call spine chill mediocre, it's good for a heads up on a stealth killer like pig, wraith etc before they even get to you and it's good for those clutch BT rescues/totem cleanses/gate opens. But I get what you mean hence why I said it isn't particularly used, especially as a consistent counter to this. It's more of a passive by product counter if you already run it like calm spirit vs doctor etc.

I suppose mediocre isn't a good term for it. Just that there's generally better perks to run and it's not one I see used all that often.

@ClogWench Yeah, more uncommon, I tend to stray to the weird builds sometimes but I've always got great use out of spine chill personally. Your point is valid though, waiting for tt's counter list though. I can't think of many myself besides spine chill.

Gentapping would be one form of Counter. I dont see Spine Chill as a Counter either, because if makes no sense at all to take Spine Chill to just counter Prayer Beads.
Even though, Gentapping does not work with Totems... So good luck if this Spirit has a Hex and is protecting it.
I would also not call Prayer Beads OP, but they are strong enough to justify a pink Add-On and not "only" a Purple one.

@Aven_Fallen ah didn't think about gentapping. I'll keep that in mind.

@ClogWench Aww I wish we could play together then, I love helping out other survivors. I'm pretty fresh as a killer (top of rank 5 because I can't stand competitive play as killer) so I could use some tips too. I think it's great when people share their main side tips.
But I would say a lot of people probably do think spine chill is useless, you honestly never know until you try a perk yourself to find your playstyle, I thought stake out was useless, but tried it recently and love it, makes everything ridiculously easy (hit great skill checks with your eyes closed, no more focusing while doing ruin gens) and I spend half my time in the killer radius anyway. Alert is also good for telling where the killer is and if you are safe btw.

And here's me thinking this thread was going to be about the nature of reality and why conscious thought affects physical reality on a sub atomic level.
I cant say I'm not disappointed.
2 -
From what I have heard simply not running prayer beads gives you free gen pressure every time you phase.
So yeah.

@SlinkyJinky well according to quantum mechanics: [insert meaningless pseudoscience here]

Perception is *your reality.
It isn't that Spirit is OP. You have to take into consideration rank and people's skills. If they've never played or looked into how to counter Spirit, she can seem very OP. Any killer can seem OP if you don't know their counters. I will say Spirit is very strong, otherwise. One of the tops.

I was hoping for something deep, too, tbh. @SlinkyJinky

A life without /Curiosity.Exe would make Slinky a sad panda 😓
