How is the ranking system this messed up?

Been playing as survivor today, I am currently at rank 6. But for whatever reason my matches have consisted of survivors and killers that are around rank 16-1. Very extreme. Had a rank 1 killer vs me a rank 5 survivor and 2 rank 14 survivors. What is up with this?

Been playing solo all day

If your region is underpopulated, the matchmaker will widen the spectrum of ranks it will try matching you to.

The higher ranks are notoriously difficult to queue. That's one of the reasons people go out of their way to depip.

The matchmaking in the game has been horrendous ever since I started playing. I no longer look for reason or rhyme in it, just accept what I'm given and move on to the next.

I solo queue as a Survivor and it sucks to walk into a match with a low Rank Killer because they've been waiting for a bit. Always feel a bit awkward afterwards because I thought he was my Rank. Can usually tell after the first chase though, so I'll notch it back a few to make it not so ugly. I know what it's like having middle/high Ranks in your match when you're a low Rank Killer.

But why though? Getting to a high rank isn't hard at all, I would think there would be more people.

You still need to play consistently, and a lot. With a monthly rank reset, it's not necessarily easy to get to the higher ranks if you've got a day job, hobbies, or other personal obligations.

Plus, there's no reason for getting higher ranks aside from the few achievements we have, so not everyone is motivated to pip up.

And personally, I avoid pipping above my regular SWF friends because otherwise our queue becomes an absolute nightmare. When I was sitting at Rank 1, it could take us half an hour to find a lobby (that doesn't kick us out).

Basically the way it'll work is by starting with a narrow set of parameters, only searching for survivors close to the killer and within a certain rank range. Ideally the lobby fills up here and gives you a close match.

However, if you're in an area with not a lot of players (or you're playing at off peak hours), that might not always be possible. So rather than having the game force the killer to sit there for an hour just to fill their lobby, the game will eventually hit a point where it thinks, "Okay, clearly there's not enough people that meet the requirements to join this lobby." It'll then loosen up those requirements and start allowing more people in.

This is why you'll sometimes see dramatically different ranks in a lobby. +SWF. Two friends with a dramatically different rank can still play together, so one of them is bound to be off.

TL;DR, lobbies start off picky, but then if they can't find anyone, they'll get more broad so you don't have to wait all day for a perfect match. After a short waiting period, the game decides that some game is better that no game.

A lot of Rank 1 Killers left because of perceived apathy from the Developers about the major imbalances at high Ranks. Then there are the ones like myself who purposely depip to stay in the middle Ranks for fun gameplay without the frustration. You also have the Killers who have deranked to 20 for easy games and to bully the low Ranked Survivors.

Many, many reasons for long queue times at the high Ranks. If they would implement a rewards system for Ranks each season, a lot more people would aim for the high Ranks. Until they do that though, it's useless to even try since all you're doing is giving yourself a headache with absolutely no reward. Maybe do it once for the Achievement if you need it, but otherwise find a Rank you are comfortable with and stay there.

Problem is I play Killer as well, and with my killer I am also in the same situation. I should not have to De-pip to be able to even play let alone with people of equal skill.

I play and I end up pipping, I think thats how it is for most people. To be forced to stay at a lower rank just to play is quite obnoxious.

The devs should just rid this game of rankings all together if this is going to be a common occurrence. Or would this entail something worse? I really don't think it would. Since lower and high ranks are already mixing by de-pipping anyways.

This was a part of the reason I decided to work on P3'ing every Killer I want to play. By dropping back to level 1, it provides me a chance to up their skills and depip at the same time. Some of the games are frustrating because you get used to certain Perks, but it's making my core game a lot stronger by not being able to lean on them. I take 1 match's worth of BP with me when I Prestige so I can come out swinging with an Offering and a few addons, even though I only have 1 Perk slot to utilize.

Everyone has their own idea of fun though, so what's good for me isn't going to good for others. I do hope they add incentives to rank, as I would definitely aim for Rank 1 every season, but if/when it happens it won't be for a long time I think. They haven't even mentioned it since they put out their gameplan for each Chapter.

Easy solution: rework the ranking distribution, rework rank reset, and implement exclusive rewards for end-season ranking to entice players to rank up and stay up.

Something in DBD isn't working properly or is designed awefully? Say it ain't so.

Queue time isn't the issue though, its poorly divided lobbies.

The ranking system makes it look as such, getting rid of it completely would be the best option. Then no one would know who has made it to rank 1 and who hasn't made it past 15.

The longer you're waiting in a queue, the more spread out your Lobby is going to be in the end. The game extends its search parameters when you've been waiting too long. If I'm waiting more than 60 seconds for people to start showing up in my Lobby, I swap over to Survivor. I do not want a massive variety, much preferring the people around my Ranks to play against.

The main issue is that there is literally 0 reason to stay at a high rank, especially if you have already gotten the achievement for reaching rank 1 with killer or survivor.

At that point, they are just playing to have the most fun and get BP to prestige and get all the perks. What better way to do that than stay at a low rank and pick on the newer players? You can feel like your great at the game, and you will get plenty of BP, you might double, so just play poorly or DC the next few games.

I would prefer to stay at my rank and face players of my skill or better so I can also get better. I don't like the idea of having to rank down to face the players that get a hard on for facing weaker players. Its pathetic and I also don't want to mess with new player experiences in the process of finding these players of equal skill level.
