Online forums are bad discussion design
Discussions, in real life, naturally flow from one topic to the next. On forums, however, discussions are expected to remain focused on the originally posted topic no matter how interesting the natural discussion evolution seems to be. In addition, every thread must have a specified topic or face deletion. You can't just post a thread for the sake of wanting to chat with someone. The only exception is The Entity's Hangout, which still defies Christendom by continuing to live for almost if not more than a year.
Seriously, what is you guys' secret? Inquiring minds need to know.
