How Many Of You Care About Your Rank?

I see a lot of people concerned with rank perhaps solely on the quality of matches based on their teammates, or Killer-side frustration. Sometimes I see others either striving for, or purposely denying higher challenging players. Does it make any difference to you if you're rank 1 or rank 15? Why would you even care in such a casual game as DBD?

I hit Rank 1 every month, then stay there for two weeks, then drop to purple because it's a lot more fun.

Uhhh rank doesn't matter that much to me, but regardless I feel bad when I de-pip, so I try to pip anyways which ends with me in red ranks before resets occur.

I know some people look at ranks like it's some type of bad thing if it's too high. For example I took a month or two break off from DBD, come back as killer. And then proceed to kill a SWF team. And mister hot shot rank 2 over here talks a lot of trash and says that's why your at 12. Despite my double pip, and complete slaughter of his team.

And then there is other times, where I'm survivor like on the recent ptb (I usually play on PS4) Someone was talking trash about my rank, yet I had the highest score, out of everyone by a great margin.

It seems more like it matters less to me, and matters more to other people. I tend to take the games and players seriously because you don't know how much they've played, if they were on break, or if they just play on a different system.

I like to reach rank 1 just for the sake of completeness, I guess, but ultimately it doesn't mean much.

A little, but I don't obsess over it because I think the rank scoring system is fairly flawed.

Personally not even remotely as killer and a little bit as survivor since you're kinda dependant on your teammates.

Gone up to red ranks. I can honestly say I've enjoyed the game more in purple/green ranks

I don't care too much, and honestly the main difference I see in survivor play between green/purple ranks and red ranks is just the perks and items. It's rare to run across someone who can actually loop me for a long time.

Every time I get a 3-4k entity displeased I have to laugh. Displeased the survivors all killed themselves first hook or displeased the entire team got slugged in the first minute of the game? Jokes.

I only care about rank insofar as I try to avoid ranking up beyond my skill level. When I first started I played a lot of Doctor to unlock M&A for Myers, potato ranks couldn't handle the shock stuns and skill checks, so I got a bunch of 4ks that I didn't really earn and soon found myself way out of my league.

Since then, I've started caring way more about hooks than kills. If I hooked everyone in the game twice and they all escaped, netting me a ton of BP but no pips, I'd be just fine with that. It's impossible to learn a new killer or practice new strategies past a certain rank.

I don't DC or lobby dodge, and I try to keep my rank around my general skill level, but yeah. I don't get the motivation for chasing red ranks, personally. Maybe if there were bonuses.

I prefer to stay in green and purple ranks cause the good teammates for me are usually there. But it depends, if im grinding for lets say, getting a character to prestige 3, rank is the last thing I'll be thinking about. But if rank reset is coming by and I'm only rank 12, I'll try to get to the highest rank I can get to.

I like playing Trapper and Hag so even getting to high purple ranks for me ends up being a nightmare. I end up organically depipping anyways because my killers are terrible at earning gatekeeper points. Can't protect those first 2-3 gens from popping while still having your power.

Depends. I don't care about my rank in terms of broadcasting my skill, but I do care about the quality of the match I'm about to have.

If I'm playing killer in the grey ranks then I know I'm going to steamroll even if I haven't played in a few weeks.

If I'm playing survivor (always solo) in grey ranks then I know I'm going to have a grab bag game of horrible teammates who do nothing.

Best ranks in the game are low green/purple simply because everyone is decent and you don't need to stress to much with people that are really "tryharding" (I don't use tryharding as a negative here, you play how you want).

Red ranks suck because you either get super tryhard teams as killer, super SWF teams that DC once their friend dies (and then leave you alone) and typically wait 8 hours for a match.

I prefer to stay out of red ranks if possible, to me a lot of people play the game way too serious and the butt hurt and salt makes me when stay off sometimes. green and purple ranks i find a nicer mixed bag of players

I got bored at Red Rank killer after hitting it for about a year each month. Partly from taking breaks and not playing as much, and partly because being sweaty got boring. So now I just play for fun, and relax a little bit.

Survivor I never got to R1 so I want to do it this month just for the achievement, but thats it.

How can it mean anything with the current system?

There are no rewards or advantages. If say you got something for being a certian rank upon a reset it would bring a bit of desire to play more and better to get to and hold a certian rank.

i prefer the green/purple ranks, I mostly screw around with any build that i can think of for my killers.

Survivor wise? I could care less about rank, all teammates i get usually are potatoes. No matter the rank.

I just wanna be at a rank where the game is fun. As killer, that means the crap ranks where I can goof off. As survivor, that means the better ranks where I'll have experienced teammates and hopefully killers will spread the pain rather than have tunnel vision.

    not even a little bit.

When people say stuff like "enjoy your de-pip", I laugh because i would love to de-pip. Unfortunately, i always end up in red ranks without barely trying

i dont really care what rank i achieve during a season, yet it always sucks to see the "entity displeased" screen pop up after an actual good round or seeing how the game rated the match and not giving me emblem qualities, because i dared to use my beartraps!

like, when you get a 3k or a 4k and you still depip (or safepip with the 4k) it is a real dragdown.

As survivor, I definitely insist on being in red ranks. Facing veteran killers and having decent teammates is very important to me.

As killer, I've started to become less picky. Sure, facing against red ranks survivors is more rewarding, but of course there are the head aches. So i don't know, maybe rank 4-8 is the sweet spot.

Not at all. Not one bit. I could not possibly care any less about my rank.

I play DbD just for the slasher killer or slasher victim fandom that I've had since first seeing the original John Carpenter's Halloween in theaters at six years old back in 1978.

I do because rank 13 survivors have no idea what they’re doing, so I get to red ranks and realize those killers try way too hard. Every game they bring some sort of iridescent or purple add on. So I stay in purple ranks where it’s a competition but not a battle of try-hards lol

I couldn't care less about the rank, I've hit rank 1 once (not only once but you get the point), I've got the achievement, it's enough. However, I do care A LOT if I lose a match, more so if my teammates are stoopid (if I play survivor).

However, if they reward you for ranking up every month, you might see me there all the time.

I prefer to stay in the purple ranks. No face campers, decent teammates, and always playing against different killers besides Spirit.

For killer I just want to stay out of the gray/ yellow ranks.

I have rank stereotypes, but that's about it.

    • Red: Uses every iridescent thing as much as possible, meta only, sweatlord has to win every game, throws a tantrum if they lose "No gg because you didn't play the way I wanted you to and give me a free escape/kill"
    • Purple: Chill people who play the game quite a bit. They purposefully avoid red ranks because they want to chill but don't depip down to green because they don't wanna just bully other people either.
    • Green: Like Red Ranks but bad at the game to boot.
    • Yellow: Either potatoes just trying to get by or hardcore tryhards who derank on purpose to bully new players
    • White: Poor noobs. Don't even know how to use their m1 yet. Generally nice people and usually grateful for advice though they can get a bit toxic in their frustration at the high learning curve this game has for new people

I don't really pay much mind to where I end up because it's not like it'll change who I get paired with with the current matchmaking, but I try to act like a Purple and occasionally act like a Red when I'm upset.

  • Raven014

I don't really care, since there's no incentive to be at higher ranks anyway. Even when playing for fun, I end up at rank 3, which is alright, I guess. Could be way worse.

That being said, people might care if there was a reason (achievements don't count since they don't exist on console), like bonus shards or something, idk.

I just play to get points. If I fill all the categories, then I think I've won for myself.

I actively try to raise my survivor rank right now because being in yellow/brown ranks is torture and being in green ranks is half torture and half decent games. Any game as a survivor in brown or yellow ranks is: killer camps, survivors swarm the hook like flies, killer gets 4k, OR, killer brings ebony, everybody dies. Usually one, then the other, then maybe every 5 games I get a good one. Once I get to green ranks, it's usually every 1st game I get a decent game(or potentially a camper, but usually my third is a decent), every 2nd game is a camper, and every 3rd is an ebony. I don't have any problems really in purple ranks as survivor, but I usually don't stay there long as I don't only play DBD, meaning rank reset hits and I go back to rank 13(Thanks BHVR for adding that instead of rank decay where I may only lose a rank or two for being away from the game for so long).

I hit rank 1 every reset with both Survivor and Killer within a few days unless I goof off like normal. I personally find purple and green ranks more fun for both sides as your not limited to or constantly seeing meta builds. Variety is the spice of life :)

I stopped caring about my rank after i started getting that "unable to update rank" error after almost every game. Now i can only depip, so my rank never improves no matter how well i play. Fortunately, i hear that error is being addressed in the new patch so i just have to make it a few more days...
