First off I wasnt really sure which category i should post thia under so sorry if its in the wrong place!

I recently started a youtube channel devoted to playing dbd on PS4. However I think i need to buy a laptop (and i think a capture card or something) in order to properly edit my videos and make my channel homepage look a bit better.

Does anyone that either has their own channel or just knows about this stuff point me in the right direction in regards to details and prices?

Im having an absolute blast uploading content so far and want to make the most of it. Thanks in advance!! 🤘🏻

I think PS4 has an app called "Capture studio" that allows you to create your own edits

I stopped using it as I use a laptop app called "Movie Maker", making adding music easier than Capture studios

The channel wall can be updated with Laptops or mobile as well

    Capture studio is free

Yea ive been using capture studio so far but its quite basic. And ive looked at channel wall with my mobile but there arent any tabs to edit it?

Sorry if its all super obvious, i havent ever tried editing and uploading before

May I be so bold as in to enquire about your channel what you play your style.. Not many ps4 streamers out there and if you are like hybrid panda someone that understands both sides promoted decent game play id be very interested in watching... Sorry this isn't helping your question also 🐷❤️

Hey I love watching Panda too! I do play both sides evenly and ive got around 2k hours. I like to mix things up to be honest and experiment different styles and builds both sides.

I had a small break from the game and now the channel is set up im just sharpening up my skills again to get back to rank 1.

If you want to check out the channel I posted a link today in the media lounge section. Hopefully you'll like the content and want to stick around, your visit would be most appreciated 👍🏻

If you're using a PS4 to make videos you can also edit them using their editing software.

I have a couple questions that might help us point you in the right direction as far as tools, time and financial investment etc.

What is your channel focused on? Compilation clips, streaming gameplay, tutorials?

Do you plan on dedicating time for this channel with regularly scheduled content (daily, weekly, monthly)?

Do you ever or are planning on uploading your content to multiple streaming/gaming sites?

My suggestion, not knowing much, is if your channel is new, don't invest too much in the beginning. Let your audience find you and see what content drives the most views. You can then tailor your tools, time, and any additional investment without breaking the bank.

    Edit: words

The channel is focused solely on DbD for console. It is never going to draw big numbers but i knew that when setting it up. Its more about having fun, sharing my hobby and giving a bit of enjoyment to anyone who wants to watch.

Im currently uploading everyday and i plan to keep going at that rate.

I dont mind spending a bit of money as long as the enjoyment is there.

Thanks very much for the response!

I too used to do YouTube edits (StevoTheTroll) from my PS4, used ShareFactory, which is free (though stuff such as themes can be purchased within it). Did the job rightly for what I used it for, though it was sometimes prone to crashing. I have since moved over to twitch (StevoTheTrolll) as streaming is more enjoyable from my perspective. Only really have time to stream weekends currently but hey it’s better than nothing. Editing on PS4 isn’t very easy and compared to PC pretty limited, though respect for editing on it.

Thanks for the response! I have thought about streaming. Think i may try it out at some point!

You never know. Streaming is better in my opinion due to live interaction with people as you play. Admittedly though one of the hardest things is viewer retention on stream though, especially on DBD. I find trying to get a game takes a solid 5+ minutes as a survivor and without any conversation going on it just feels... awkward. Killer queues generally aren’t too bad, but I don’t play killer as much, only really when I want BP or need to bring my ego down a bit.

I did respond to your comment but it hasnt shown up so ill make another lol

I have been using the PS4 editing software so far.

I knew the channel wouldnt ever draw any big numbers when i started, its more about me having fun, sharing experiences and hopefully just spreading a bit of enjoyment to any viewers.

Right now i upload everyday and i plan to keep doing so. Maybe do a live stream a little further down the line too.

I dont mind spending a bit of money as its a hobby and as long as the enjoyment is there id be happy to do it.

    Thanks for your response!

If you have a decent PC, then you can record your games on a capture card (elgato capture card for example).

This will give you more power to edit your footage. Also, the capture card software is user friendly.

    Hope this helps.

P.S. capture cards are around $100-150

Thanks for the advice! Capture card seems like a good way to go

Yes, if you plan on recording PS4 game play, a capture would probably be best.

I actually have some DbD footage on my own YouTube channel, in case you want to know what capture card quality looks like.

Good luck with your channel btw.

I would like to start a channel

But I don't really have an entertaining personality when I'm alone

I like editing in general so I'm getting a PC anyway

I play on PS4 as well, so if you ever need someone to play with I'm available

@Mister_Holdout searched for you but no results for that name

@BigFudge Make sure you don't type the underscore. That symbol looks like this: _

  • BigFudge
    BigFudge Member Posts: 241

I didnt include the underscore, there were no results for any variation of your name that i tried 😂

Try searching my name + dead by daylight. You should see some results.
