Killer Retention
Now that Dead by Daylight is out on a new platform, how much do you think it affects people's first impressions when they go up against someone who regularly plays on other platforms when it could be their first time touching the game?
Imagine going against Rank 1s despite being a legit Rank 20. Playing the Switch version, the amount of 4 man escapes I've been a part of has been crazy. When I play on PS4, even at Red Ranks, mostly everyone dies but here we are escaping like nuts. On the Killer side of things I think you should expect to go in as Survivor and to die so it's not AS crazy there.
TLDR; Do you think that regulars playing at low ranks on new platforms will turn new players away from the game?

The game is 3+ years old. That's part of the risk you take when joining a multiplayer game later.

Typically, but new versions might be the first time people could play them. Let's just hope people can get over getting stomped until they can learn more as this game has a bit to learn for new players.

And to be fair, most games release all their versions of the game at once on the launch day.
This isn't common to release a game on another new platform years later or they never come to the other platforms so I think it's fair to a degree

But...It is common for the switch... I wonder what's the next game from the wiiU that's getting a re-release

To be completely honest after the first hour or two I spent playing the game when I bought it for PS4 on release I almost deleted it. I didn't understand it at all and got destroyed every match.
Then I looked up tips and tricks and all that and started to learn how to play.
Roughly 3k hours later, here I am.

For most 3rd party games, I would say it's not common.
Nintendo own games sure

Didn't fifa come to it later aswell? And dark souls...and other stuff?
The switch is the king of "this game is also here now!"

I thought there was going to be a lot of veteran players but I've been paired up with people who are clearly new. I went against a few good Survivors but have yet to go against a great Killer. The only time a Killer really gets a kill is if it's through Camping or Tunneling so far.

I guess that's the big reason this is a concern for me, there are so few games out there that require you to go outside the game to learn how to play it now. That could be a turn off for so many people, at least if they were up against their own ranks all the time they could potentially learn a Killer if they stuck with that one or routing if they stuck with Survivor long enough.
Though looking up tips and watching people play definitely helped me so it's recommended anyway I suppose. I don't remember what it was like for me at first honestly, probably a nightmare as well!

I guess your right for the switch this is new. So then switch players should be used to this for all their games (3rd party games)
There's nothing to be mad about then, you know your system is late to the game to me anyway

I have been going up against a LOT of Hags so there is Ruin for me, even if it is Baby Ruin. Thanks to the performance on Switch, at least Docked, I haven't been hitting the Great Skill Checks very often lol
Thank the Entity for no NOED yet, though.

I try to be ready for any Killer myself so I just use that tip to go "Oh, these poor Rank 20s" when I see it's Legion or something more complex.

So I'm 10 matches deep into this switch release and out of all those ten matches I've only let 6 people leave (being nice), had only one leave after his team was decimated by my hag, and had only one DC. Every game has been me dominating the survivors to a point that I could actually farm them without them wanting me to farm.... I feel bad but maybe in a week the ranks will even out. (I'm not even a really good killer either)

I mean I know I do 😉

DBD of course came out in 2016 prior to the switch itself being released. They had also been working on the PS4 and Xbox versions which came out 3 months after the Switch.
For a small dev team they have to put resources into what may sell. The switch well that was a risk for Nintendo as the last console didn't do very well and I would bet many devs thought the same way and held off until it sold the numbers needed to justify investing time to port games for it.

i only played 4 matches of Killer so far and 2 had at least 1 competent Survivor. I played as Huntress and the framerate made it difficult enough without a Survivor that knew how to play against Huntress. I then played as Doctor and accidentally killed everyone. Closed the Hatch and was going to let the last Claudette go but me being near her looking at her on the Exit Gate scared her so much she ran BACK into the map and the timer ran out.

Well, I hope Behaviour's investment pays off. I would love it if the Switch version gets a decent sized community as well. I am having no problem finding Survivor games, almost instant, so I hope that keeps up in the future.

I think it will do quite well. The switch has done better than expected for a semi hand held device and its why more games are coming over and vets who.own a switch that have playeed for hours will probably buy it again as who wouldnt want to play DBD on the go 😉.

3rd party games were never really popular or on Nintendo systems to begin with even the super popular systems. At least to me
More likely due to the systems hardware limitations being even lower then xbox/Playstation.
Even the Nintendo switch hardware isn't good and has limitations, struggling to run even some of their own games.
So I wouldn't blame it all on switch being released much later

I also feel developers like Panic Button (DOOM and Wolfenstein), Shiver (Mortal Kombat 11) , Virtuos (Dark Souls, LA Noire, Starlink) and Saber (Witcher 3) are showing that while it's underpowered, HEAVILY so in most cases, it's still up to developers to optimize. So we can blame it on Developers thinking that they'll spend more money optimizing than they will get from the port.
I haven't been with DbD long, just since it was given free back in August on PS+, but I have been here to see the engine change and the game get better visually and performance wise on PS4 so I hope they can do the same on Switch.
But yeah, since the SNES third party games haven't done so hot on Nintendo consoles, though they are doing better now. Mortal Kombat sold well last we heard and Bethesda seems to be happy with DOOM and Skyrim's performances.

I am having a blast! I been dominating as killer lol but yea...many hours into the game. Its just part of the learning experience though.

I'm loving it on Switch! Framerate makes Ruin impossible to deal with though until the totem is broken.
And it takes .5 seconds to find a lobby as survivor while it takes 20 min to find one as killer. So it looks like more people want to play killer.
