Toxic and Bitter

I love DBD and I've played with some pretty awesome people... but this game has some of the nastiest, mean, idiotic, blame-throwing, and genuinely awful people that I've ever ran into on online games. I play both killer and survivor, I don't camp, I don't teabag... I try to always be the hero and scoop them off the hooks... and I still get slurs, threats, and nastigrams.

I've got several friends that have experienced this with DBD as well... more so than other games. What's the deal? Does the horror genre draw out the d-bags? Is this game frustrating for most? I had to turn off my messenger and it sucks, because I met some really cool people by random matches.

Wishing the community leaned more the other way. Is anyone else consistently having these negative experiences?

I play on PS4, if that makes a difference.

I play on ps4 as well and most of the time you’ll get hate mail as killer just like the other platforms. It’s interesting though because usually on console since there’s no chat people aren’t so committed to the effort it takes to send hate mail.  I haven’t gotten a crazy amount of hate and aside from the one time I was mori spammed most it was pretty entertaining. I wouldn’t turn off messenger over it because in my experience the people you meet who make the game fun will make everything worthwhile and enhance your experience.

Honestly, it's not much different on PC. The biggest difference would be it's limited to endgame chat rather than mail. So you can just leave before anyone says anything or completely ignore it.

    PS4 here.

I try my best to congratulate and even find myself saying "good for them" to myself at times. Everyone is playing the game the best they know how for their skill level, even if they camp, loop, tunnel, or whatever else. I wish these didn't exist, but much like real life, people have options and it's not up to me to police them.

Today, I played with someone who called me a "toxic teammate" for not getting to him after he'd attempted to escape the hook and went into struggle. We had a conversation and I never changed his mind, but I think people are anxious to blame anyone else for their failures in this game. Sometimes you mess up. Sometimes you have a bad game. Doesn't make you bad at the game or bad at life.

Be nice to killers: it's lonely when its 4 on 1.
Be nice to survivors: it's hard not wanting to let your team down.
