Isn't the issue with 'new survivors' running into frustrating perks like Ruin due to matchmaking?

The devs keep claiming that Ruin was frustrating to new survivors, and their nerfed Ruin is 'insidious' to the same group. Except, Ruin isn't a base perk of the free killers. You need to purchase Hag, level her up till you unlock her teachable, then level your chosen killer up a number of times till Ruin appears on the bloodweb. And even then, you need to do it multiple times to get its highest tier. That's a lot of work for one perk. By the time you're finished with that, that killer shouldn't even be matched against new survivors to begin with.

So, as the title says, isn't matchmaking the core issue that should be fixed? Why nerf perks that new players would find troubling, when they shouldn't even be matched against killers who own them?

There is also the shrine but that costs iridescent shards and luck for ruin to be there. I like your overall point though

maybe because it isn't just annoying to new players, but to old ones like me. DS was annoying to killers and was changed, instaheals were annoying and changed, and even the instagen add on was annoying and changed due to that reason. they are looking to fix stuff and make the game more fun for everyone, they are working on a rank rework through chapter 15 if you look at their year plan that was released back right before chapter 12 before the freddy rework.

i understand that hex ruin was nice for slowing the game down but it made it very annoying to deal with as someone who has more than 50 days = 1200 hours played on mostly survivor and more recently, killer, with the new doc changes and ruin being changed im gonna start playing more killer since it seems more appealing, alot of stuff is going to be changed in the new year to help both sides.

this new change is not bad, it will just have them see how messed up the game is and fix the core problem which is that there are only one main objective for survivors which can cause killers to get easily gen-rushed. most of the problem is due to matchmaking so once it gets its rework everything should be almost good.

Maybe you are right, but that's not what they said. They specifically stated it was to help new survivors. The OPs point was to show new players probably won't encounter ruin often. So either their (the devs) reasoning was worded poorly or disingenuous.

For a game like this, new players are pretty much everyone who hasn't put in at least 100 hours. And the first tip in pretty much every guide for new players is to get BBQ and Ruin ASAP. It doesn't take very long at all to unlock ruin.

I agree with most of what you said. However if they changed DS to make it less annoying they failed miserably. More people run it now than ever and it's annoying as hell lol.

It does take long if you don't want to waste all your bloodpoints on hag just for one perk. If I was starting all over I certainly wouldn't neglect leveling my main killers just for ruin.

I sit in ranks 20-13 on PS4, and I don't see Ruin often at all. It still requires either unlocking the teachable on Hag and then leveling up the other killers and getting good RNG, or buying it on the Shrine (where it appeared, what, twice last year?) and again, leveling up the other killers and getting good RNG.

Not necessarily. Matchmaking would play a part, since there is no hard limit what ranks a grey-ranked player can be matched with if options are scarce, but there's also the likelihood that a lot of people may not play killer that much. There are a lot of survivor mains out there who only play killer for dailies or challenges, but still keep their killers decently levelled up for when they do play them. Such people would be a very low killer rank, but could still have high-tier DLC perks unlocked on their characters. The same would apply even to people who play both roles and just choose to invest all their bloodpoints into killer. There are also veteran players who come back to the game after having deranked to grey or yellow due to not playing in a few months.

Basically, although it's probably not as common a perk at low as at high ranks, there are a lot of reasons why grey or yellow-ranked killers might have access to Ruin, so unfortunately fixing matchmaking, while important, isn't going to completely resolve the issue here.

I'd argue the DS is way more annoying now than it was before. It's way too easy to abuse.

This is why rank reset is another problem.

Not only matchmaking doesn't work, but even if it works, you can meet a veteran player who hasn't played for 2 months. Great

    nerfing ruin is easier than

    1. fixing matchmaking
    2. balancing the game properly
    3. reworking the maps to be balanced

doing all that would take time out of their very priority task of releasing new cosmetic content constantly, so they decided to do the option that would be easiest, most survivor biased, AND the least time consuming to do

I agree. Most of my concern is with getting better at chases. I just got a grasp on safe rescues and heals and I also play pretty casually so I just assumed that ruin was something that I would learn how to deal with or counter while working on improving in general since I'm not the best at hitting greats anyway. It was just one more skill that was needed to learn in order to keep up. Killers are supposed to be strong otherwise we may as well be trying to escape a room full of puppies.

DS is a straight upgrade to it's original version right now. 60 second safety bubble with the guaranteed 5 second stun not affected by Enduring. There legitimately isn't a counter for it other than to babysit a slugged body, and because it's 60 seconds, you can easily down the person who unhooked you, hook them, and then have to wait another 30 seconds. It's ######### wild. It'd be the equivalent of hitting a great skillcheck on old ruin and it regressing the gen by 75% and locking you out for 60 seconds.
