I played a game today that woke me up....
-Be me as Ghostface on Thomsons house without ruin.
-Starts first chase and ends it quick first gen pops. Me: No biggie...ill just use pop on the next gen and it will be fine!
-Walks over to the next gen and that one pops :') Me: This is fine...I got this! I am ending these chases quickly I can win.
-2 gens pop after actually thinking that. Me: Hmmmmm.
-Last gen pops as quickly as the last two. -Camps the last survivor that I downed cause I had no choice. They were not even toxic....they agreed with me at the end :/ I wasn't even mad, just kinda boring for both sides aint it? Devs this comes from someone who LOVES your game....please do something about this one little issue. Killers are fine it is just how the game is currently designed. I tried to be cool about it but when you run into gen rushers you are gonna have a bad time. 😥

Did you try applying map pressure?
What about gitting gud?
18 -
I think the opposite. Less people will be awake than ever. They'll all be asleep waiting for a survivor game.
18 -
No video, didn't happen. I doubt you finished chases quickly and all 5 gens popped before you had a chance to react on thompsons house. I guess it could happen with 3 or 4 toolboxes though.
2 -
Classic comeback, I like it. You forgot to add 4head though.
3 -
Smh he's such a baby killer am I right dud
1 -
Yup have no skills....HOW DO YOU GUYS ZIP ACROSS THE MAP WITH SLOWER KILLERS SO QUICKLY? Please show me how it is done! I need help. Seriously I used ruin as a crutch for too long and I need help.
0 -
I was like you once...I thought it could not happen. Keep playing and dont use ruin at all.
0 -
Well if you're really asking, my only advice is to not isolate yourself from generators and to keep track of which generators are being worked on. On some maps even this won't help.
0 -
Corrupt was already the better perk, especially when combined with something like discordance or whispers. Ruin will get you to rank 10 by just equipping it, but red rank survivors will ignore it because you can do entire gens with only 2-3 skillchecks sometimes, and they will hit them anyways.
0 -
No disrespect to my good friend @Waffleyumboy, but if you look at his post history, he's admitted to never being at red ranks as killer. He only really knows one side, so cut him some slack. ☺️
3 -
Well I actually I don't use ruin as killer. I rank up very slowly due to gatekeeper almost always getting screwed but I can get 3 kills pretty consistently.
0 -
If you go to green ranks you will always be red ranks now though 😂 I know they are fixing that though.
0 -
I'm a GF and Billy main trying to rank up without ruin. I'm not exactly emblem rushing with legion or wraith.
0 -
This is why I tend to swap Pop Goes the Weasel for Surge theses days on M1 killers. I too often find myself in situation where I just don't have time to kick the gens.
As for the rest of the story, its hard to comment without seeing the game. There are so many variables. Thompson House is a rough map, especially if the survivors know the loops. We all know that ending chase quickly does not really mean anything. The Clown end chases quickly and he's a strong contender for the title of weakest killer in the game.
Maybe there are things you could have done better, maybe not. I wasn't there. My own experience without Ruin has not been as terrible as I expected, but I have the feeling its mainly because I got pretty lucky with matchmaking and mostly faced very average survivors lately. I'm sure I'll run into some SWF sooner or later that will make me miss Ruin badly.

I still love this game. I thought my stream saved so I can not post :/ and maybe it was just...a bad game? But the fact that the survivors agreed with my decision on the camping at the end was what made me go hmmmmmmmm. Do they win that often? Just voicing my concerns. Playing survivor should be fun and thrilling and I certainly want the fun factor for killer also! :D I am still not one of those people who think the devs are survivor sided lol I seen them stream killer in red ranks before. I hope you do continue to have good games though!
1 -
And that's cool man, you'll get there. Ranking up now is easier than ever! Imagine if you were around back when true infinite's existed.
0 -
Honestly, as a killer main, you know within about 2 minutes whether you've got a good survivor group or a bad one. OPs story is in line with a good group.
2 -
Just apply more map pressure 4head
I get 4ks all the time in red ranks without ruin 5head, but I wont show you proof
if you use ruin you are a bad killer 6head
2 -
Survivor queues are already longer than ever for me. Once the Ruin nerf goes live, I suspect it will get far worse.
3 -
Today I've had a game agaisn't a brand-new, comodious and insta heal.
First gen popped about 30s into the game? it was unbeliavably fast, i finish hooking my first survivor (which was pretty quick too) and other TWO pop as I walk away from the hook, absolute madness
Needless to say, they were a 4-man swf, and I know it IS like that because when I swf, it is not so different.
Its not a "jUsT aPpLy PresSuRe" issue.
6 -
I think that they will change the gens or toolboxes after this goes live shortly after...I mean they really have to lol
0 -
If they had planned to do it, they would have done it at the same time as the Ruin nerf. Maybe they'll nerf toolboxes as an afterthought, but I don't expect that anything will happen to the gens themselves.
1 -
just git gud 4Head
In all reality this isnt a small issue, its DBDs biggest issue. Many maps are too big where even if you get your first hook fast there is still a massive chance that 1 gen will pop chances are if that one gen pops roughly 8/10 another will follow almost instantly.

Ruin is bad at red ranks anyways. CI has always been better. Ruin usually only lasts a minute or two anyways, unless you get a really good spawn on like Hawkins. It stops people from spawning on top of your generators and immediately starting on them.
I could spam this thread with all my ruin-less wins at red ranks. Here's one I just played a minute ago.
See that rainbow map? That meant a 1 minute ruin, tops.

The thing is, survivors don't even need to be that good to do the gens fast, especially with no Ruin in their way. If anything, OP learned an important lesson: quick chase alone are not enough pressure if the survivors are focused on the generators.
The next step is what could he have done more ? But as previously mentionned I wasn't there so I have no clue. Maybe he truly did the best he could and there was nothing more he could have done. Maybe he made some mistakes he did not realize or missed some opportunities that where not ovbious to him. We'll never know.
The point is... Thoses kind of games will happen, and they feel terrible. Try to not let them get to your head (something I personaly still struggle with). Get some distance and maybe learn something from them, even if what you learn is just that somes maps can be utter BS.

I would have loved if you had provided examples of what was happening in between. It’s kind of hard to judge someone’s match without any context of why gens were popping that fast.
From what you’re describing it sounds like a map problem not a gen problem.
1 -
The problem here is neither Gen Times nor Ruin. It is Thompsons House.
0 -
Thompson House is a fairly large map that can spawn super strong loops and four pretty safe fence pallets by the main building. That map is terrible.
As a low map pressure killer on a heavily survivor sided map, you can’t do much if the survivors split generators and are competent.
I just accept the fact that I’ll most likely lose on Thompson House whenever I play killer unless I’m playing Spirit.

Wait...your steam name is Loot Goblin?

This is a big issue with the game, and it's not even the gen speed that's the reason for this; if one person is distracting, other gens should be able to get done.
In reality,it's map size making it difficult for any killer that isn't nurse or billy (or oni once he's gotten his power for the first time) to apply any real pressure unless they hide in one side of the map the whole game...and that's easily countered by stacking on the 3 gen location and intentionally leading the killer away. If they commit, they lose the gen, however, if they don't fully commit, they still likely lose about 10-20 seconds of gen progress and if the survivors stacked, it's going to be half done after one round.
Right now, we only have 2 perks to deal with this early game issue, and one of them is going to be removed as a possibility for said scenario.
One idea I remember seeing from Ayrun when watching his stream was not to change the base speed of generators (assuming map size isn't addressed, which a recent satisfaction survey suggests the devs are aware of now...finally) we could get a kind of penalty for the first few generators; that is, they work slower until one is done, meaning if survivors choose to do the efficient thing and split off generators, they actually get punished early game since each generator is slowed down by quite a bit. The idea with this would be that the first chase, assuming it's an average chase, might still cost the first generator, but only if the survivors not being chased stack onto the same gen instantly.
Another idea could simply be extra penalty for working together on a gen. Right now, 10% isn't really that much. Prove thyself completely negates this, and with a toolbox, (or two) that generator will be done in no time.
And my final idea is...more early game pressure perks. Of course, the devs want to balance the game around the idea of no perks; we know this by the fact they've been doing tests relating to this with the community, but so far no changes have suggested anything was really learnt from them.

Thompson House is awful for almost every killer apart from maybe Spirit and Nurse. I also don't believe you when you said you ended chases quickly purely because you were on that map (the loops of pain come to mind where you can keep a killer like GhostFace chasing you there for at least half the match, because shack > long wall jungle gym > Cow tree > other jungle gym and a bunch of coldwind loops scattered around it is completely fair and balanced.)
Don't feel bad about losing on a coldwind map because it's mostly out of your control without ruin.

I change it up alot, was playing some BRs earlier that day.

Without BHVR giving us the proper equipment for "Map pressure" I'm afraid such injections can prove lethal.
As for a healthy dose of "Git Gud" it seems BHVR is slowly taking away the need.

I was screwing around earlier and played some basement defender Bubba... Pretty sure that was you who touched my chest.

FORBIDDEN!

Oh dont worry, he got facecamped for it.
0 -
How were you ending chases quickly if 3 survivors managed to repair 4 gens by the time you hooked the first? Something doesn't add up.
Anyway it seems you got unlucky to have everyone spawn far from each other, which is the worst start for a killer. It happens, just like it happens to have everyone spawn near you.

Death or not, I was looting that chest. It was a skeleton key too :(

MY CHEST!!!
Had a game where a Jeff came up to me to gift me a toolbox... which was immediately stolen by a Claudette. The Claudette paid for her crimes because stealing is illegal.
Was nice just being able to meme a little instead of actually taking things seriously every game.

Once again this sounds to me like it could be just as much a map issue as it is a gen time issue.
But personally I don't even know anymore what to think about this.
0 -
This, is very debatable on corrupt being good, as it can also be completely ignored if you just don't work on gens. WHICH is a strategy I have both and and had done to me.
1 -
The overwhelming majority of survivors are way too greedy to just stay put for 2 minutes. I don't ever find it to be a problem. If I did, I would run whispers, which, when used correctly, denies almost any ability for survivors to hide from you.
0 -
Not to mention that, on the trap killers, hag and trapper, it doesn't matter if the survivors just sit around doing nothing. You have already laid your minefield by the time it runs out.
0 -
Now this is true to extent, yes you laid your minefield and no progress got done, but also with hag within seconds you could lose 3 traps to simply people running around or people running while you're in a chase. Plus even after your minefield has been set there is no definitive 100% you're going to use one of those 10 traps in your first chase. As with survivors hiding if they are aware you're a hag they'll stray from locations where you were seen, and will burn pallets there causing a chase to take longer or you have to lose a trap to lock down a mind game at a current loop.
Not including as trapper your mindfield is very limited and can be just as easily countered by again, people getting a wiff of what side of the map you've been on and what loops or endings do they know about. This is actually a great example of how killer shack is one of the first places to be looked for traps as it is one of the strongest loops.
And a big thing about these two killers even though you can have a mine field set if a team spreads out well, pops multiple traps as quick as happens you force a reset on traps and can actually shove a killer on their back foot instantly. Pop 2 traps as hag, that's two more traps that she will need to set, pop 2 traps with trapper, those are two more loops that have opened up and need to be reset. Simply having a mine field set up doesn't guarantee a game. You can actually run into a problem of actually also finding survivors too soon where you're either forced to leave or at least try to land a slap to apply some sort of gun shy slow down.
