My friends all quit because of match making
I'm usually around rank 5, and I've had six different friends try to play this game and they've all quit because we get destroyed by red and purple rank killers. I've been playing killer for the challenges tonight, and in every game I've been matched against three purple survivors.
So when I SWF, it's 5, 15, 16, 17 vs a level 5 killer
and then
The survivors are 8, 8, 8, 16 vs level 16 killer (yours truly).
So I guess the question is: seriously? It cannot be healthy for the game that new survivors are so discouraged from playing because of the way match making is. Don't a lot of people play games with and because of friends? I know killers need to not be crapped on too, and I'm not trying to take advantage with a SWF game to bully a noob killer, but there has to be a better way.

Devs don’t care enough about matchmaking/ranking. If they did, it would have been fixed two months ago.
It’s not to say that don’t care at all, it’s just very obvious it’s not a priority.

@AvisDeene At this point, my opinion is that they've proven to be utterly incapable of fixing it. The current Matchmaking problem, which has been an issue since early to mid December at least, isn't a one-off. This has been a repeating problem for the past year.
They fix it. Then release a new patch and it's back to square one again. It sits and sits, they fix it, release a patch, and there it goes again.

I really think it’s intentional. If they actually do fix it permanently, it would probably make queue times much longer and players will drop like flies.
I may be wrong, but I don’t think so. Something as vital as marching players with similar skill should be a #1 priority for developers who care about the enjoyment of all their players.

I suspect its a lot more complicated than they are saying and severe. They said a patch would come in "weeks" but thats a extremely loose time line and wks can turn into months and matchmaking is causing a lot of damage all on its own.

Just had two more killer games, I've moved up to 15 and I'm still going against at least two 6s and 7s in every game. Sigh.
I know queues would take longer if match making changed. But I've stopped playing survivor because I can't get a game and quit waiting after 20+ minutes, and this is insane. And are dedicated servers making the game unplayable after a certain time of day now? I used to always be able to get a game even if the ping wasn't that great. Now, two nights in a row, survivor games just disappear at around 9pm central time. Killer is still instant.

Yeah. It is a bad experience for new players, especially killers. Yellow ranked killers going up against red and purple survivors is not a fun experience...especially toxic swf groups.
They said that they hope to have a fix in place in a few weeks, and more detailed information on what that means sometime soon. We'll have to wait and see how that works out.

@AvisDeene I'm starting to wonder about that, myself. If I recall, a week or so ago someone posted a thread about one of the Devs asking in the Discord how people would feel if matchmaking no longer considered ranks and just tossed everyone together.
People talk about the 20k-30k players DbD consistently has on Steam. Yes, it puts DbD in the Top 20 for Steam, but considering those are global numbers, not just a specific region, they aren't that great when discussing a PvP game that must also create matches based on region and also within certain rank parameters.
I just don't think they have the player base to effectively make matches across a range of rank brackets. At this point, I would remove the rank and emblem system entirely, and just award BP for the match.

Yup, I don’t think they could do much to improve the situation. It is what it is, the only option players have is to put up with it, get better or play a different game.

@AvisDeene Exactly. I stopped playing way back when this current matchmaking fiasco first started. I went back to Overwatch. I just popped back into the forums to see what was happening.
I see they changed Ruin, but I never used it so: whatever. But, matchmaking is still broken. I've never seen a PvP game that relies on a matchmaker have one so broken so consistently and for so long.
At this point, get rid of it. Just remove ranks, remove pipping, and just toss players together and award BP based on emblem play. I mean, I wouldn't play it like that. It's why I don't play Battle Royales. But at least they would stop embarrassing themselves.

They do work on matchmaking but will we see it any time soon, will it be like Dedicated Servers? Who knows.
When I got a long matchmaking ordeal, I leave my room and go do something quick or something to kill the time, then I don't even notice.

Tbf the SWF situation is down to you. SWF lobbies (are meant to) get matched against a killer who is the same rank as the highest rank SWF player. But ye MM is borked rn, Devs have said they're looking at it but it's been really long and I absolutely understand people who've left over it.

The problem you had radicates in the fact that the killer rank is picked +-6 ranks from the highest rank in the party so, as you're a rank 5 survivor you should be getting ranks 1 to 11 killers for your SWF and any killer out of those ranks you get has to do with non available killers in the rank I just mentioned, and as killer the same applies, if there's a SWF with highest rank 2 but other 3 guys rank 16, the game will seek a killer based on the highest rank +-6 ranks, and that could be you

Yeah, match fixes would be nice. But there isn't an easy balance to this problem. Faster Que times means match quality is going to be lower. Bottom line is. A person cannot have their cake and eat it too ;).
Good team mates = longer Que time.
So it comes down to mechanics solutions where the game would have to be revised to compensate for bad teams.
- Removing ECG. -Because teams with players that aren't quite experienced, means the odds of having to search for a hatch, go up.
- Changing BBQ and Chili to a Hex. - Team mates being hooked constantly, means that this perk is going to constantly be tripped.
- Killers needing MORE generators on the map because of SWF v PUGS.

I know that's how SWF lobbies are designed and I think it's a bad design. You cannot tell me you think three yellow ranks and one purple have any chance against a purple killer, even if we are on coms. We play for hours and do not power all five gens even once. It's miserable and it discourages new people from playing, which isn't healthy for the game. So sure, that's on me.

Well, it's that way because SWF groups would abuse the old system where it matched based on the lowest rank. They'd have a depipped player in yellow/brown ranks and you'd get squads of red ranks bullying new killers. An argument could be made about trying to average it out, but the change was made to avoid new players having to play against experienced ones right out the gate.

This messed up matchmaking has been going on since the day i got this game . I have had it almost three years. If it is not fixed by now it is not ever going to get fixed.
Two need to get out in order for this to be "balanced" as they say. So if two are far better than you, they reason that those two will get out. But it does no work like that. Two people in rank 8 who cant hit skill checks end up snowballing the game for the 15's who can hit skill checks.
I am rank 14 surv at the moment and i stopped playing early morning CET cos of the amount of people who suck more than me. And i suck as surv. But i dont make half the mistakes they do. If you are rank 8 and cant hit a damn skill check when the game starts, fudge off back to yellow ranks. One of the reasons i am yellow is that i cant do the 360 juke and lose them that way. I have to gain distance and then use mind games and buildings. I cant dance with the killer like some others who can stay near them.
I am a gen jockey and it sucks cause it is no points whatsoever even though i am doing the opbjective. I played games where i did more than 3 gens on my own and barely black pipped cos i did not go near the killer. Is that not my friggen goal? Do i want to be on the hook? No. So i stay away and do gens. But for points that sucks.

Dont make me laugh. For three years we have seen pics of rank 20 noob killer sin first game facing rank 1's with a token rank 18 to abuse the system and get easy games.

True, I was abused countless times when I started learning to play killer against 3 red rank + 1 brown rank survivors. I think the problem of OP is not the MM, the root of the issue is his rank 5. He should create new account to play with his friends who are new in game (and the killer too). Instead of expecting devs revert old SWF system just to serve only him. :D

I've given up on any hope that Matchmaking will be fixed.
It fixes for a short time and brakes again over and over and over. I guess the Devs don't want long ques but my god the games can be miserable when you put people with vastly different skill levels against eachother.

They claim to be working on it...but they need to hurry up. This needs to have been dealt with a while ago. It's a critical issue and needs more than just fixing the fact it goes outside of the usual brackets, it's fundamentally broken.
If the reason why it is taking so long is because they are overhauling the system entirely to be better and more balanced, including ranking not just matchmaking....then I will 100% totally understand why it's taken so long....if they just fix the bug with it and nothing more.....I'll be really disappointed.
You guys have been saying things like this for a while, and still nothing has really been done... I really hope you are overhauling ranking and matchmaking entirely at this point, just fixing the bug that is causing those screenshot examples won't be enough.

Just had a game with two level 9s and two level 20s with no perks against a level 16 Hag. Imagine how well that went. One person was farmed and tunneled out of the game in about 90 seconds.
