Im confused about Gen rushing

Im looking for some insight here. I've seen the notion of "gen rushing" among many forum posts and its looked at as something "toxic" on the survivor side thus killers feeling its cause for them to play in a more dirty playstyle. But i guess what confuses me is, why is doing gens seen as something killer players are almost offended by when survivors do it? Is that not their primary objective of escape? If survivors are criticized for doing gens, what would you suggest they do? chests? totums? neither of these objectives lead to escaping. If you were a survivor, what would you spend the match doing? walking around waiting for the killer to find you, chase you, and eventually down you until you die?

I dont mean this maliciously, but im genuinely confused when i see this topic come up. I can understand tea bagging, flashlight clicking, body blocking, etc as "toxic", but "gen rushing" never made sense to me. It seems the frustration should be more with the devs than the survivors themselves. Can anyone give some further insight?

Who has said gen rushing is a survivor being toxic? Any chance you can back that claim up? Killers including myself have said that gen rushing causes difficulty in the game. Clearly there is a problem and it’ll get worse. Green killers are now being matched against red and purple survivors. There aren’t enough high rank killers to go around anymore.

Behavior can solve this by releasing the raw statistics. But I suspect they won’t as it’ll show two situations: 90% of survivors are brown ranks and never rank up. Of the other 10% of survivors, they likely win 75% of the time.

At least half the games I play devolve to that in post game chat. It is extremely common for killers to say that. I'm glad you're not one of them, but still many do.

Because playing agains genrush is boring. Thats all.

Yes, this is the best way for surviviors to win the game.

Just like tunneling and using moris is the easiest way to win as a killer.

I think its the games fault that its like this, secondary objectives or something should be added.

Are your killers brown rank and your teams yellow rank SWF? If you’re talking about a full SWF bringing toolboxes and possibly BNP and then insta popping gens, then ya I can see them saying that.

its like survivors saying it’s toxic to tunnel, camp and then Mori survivors when it’s the job of the killer to kill...

I suspect toxic means “what you did sucked” in this game.

It's not that it's viewed as toxic, but the fact that all Gens can be rushed through by 3 survivors, while another is in a chase. This is made worse when you have Red ranks going against Green ranked killers who just get outlooped constantly. Pair this up with Toolboxes, and boom. Killer pretty much has to bend over for them. Killers are frustrated because by the time we even manage to get a down, 3 Gens just went off, and leaves very little time to try get anyone else down when other survivors just pop them off. And the Devs still try to say that there isn't an issue with Gens, when clearly, there is. All they need to do is just increase the time it takes. Simple, but of course, that's never going to happen.

To some Killers everything a Survivor does is toxic, unfortunately.

Just had a Wraith disconnect in the first 45 seconds of the game, because he found me and another random on a generator together. Said it was because we were 'gen rushing'. We were barely a quarter of the way through it.

Said he had over 3,500 hours (profile private so I couldn't verify) and that he's been DCing frequently since Ruin got gutted.

I had a survivor team with brand new parts finish a gen 15-20 seconds into the match. It was so fast I thought the map was bugged. They brought 4 toolboxes 2 purples, a green, and a yellow. So yeah gen rushing is unhealthy for the game. I kept the team injured and slugged and couldn’t stop the onslaught. If you can nerf nurse into oblivion, you can disable toolboxes. You can sabo without them, you can adjust them for sabo only. Survivors don’t need anything to speed up gen times.

"genrush" is not toxic. 4 toolboxes + BNP + Prove thyself "genrush" IS toxic. simply put the safeguards against exploitation when it comes to genspeeds are very bad in the game, and knowingly exploiting them is a pretty crap move. The issue is in the game design more than the player conduct, unless the player conduct is to directly exploit said bad design.

These people are mad at developers and game design, not neccesairly surviviors.

I played a game yesterday as trapper with 2 red and 2 purple rank survivors that had scratch marks on the outer wall crouching behind trees. I got farmed by a rank 6 jake with bubba revving 3 feet behind hi, he put us both down, same game a rank 8 David was hit twice running the outer wall. I’m not sure that using the red rank example has a meaning anymore.

Honestly it most likely doesn't. I'm just going with my experiences recently on Xbox. I always get matched to god loopers in Red ranks. Makes getting out of Green ranks very tough, but I don't mind. I just wish it didn't have to be like this overall.

Contrary to popular belief, gen rushing is not simply just doing the gens. Here are the things that qualify:

    1. repairing in the killer’s face
    2. disregarding totems and slamming gens (bonus for complaining about noed).
    3. bringing toolboxes with insane addons, especially when 2 or more survivors do it.

i’ve seen plenty of instances where the last survivor repairs a gen while their one other teammate is about to die on hook.
