Question for one of the devs?
Are a lot of people still playing killer? I still do, but I feel like I get instant games as killer but not as survivor. Is that due to the rank problems or lack of killers?

I would like to see actual player count numbers for the individual sides.
I am playing at high ranks as Survivor and queues are taking 10+ minutes for a single game.
2 -
There are less killers now actually since the Ruin Nerf.. I mean why would I play Killer especially M1 Killers when 2-3 Gens are popping in the 1st minute before you could even locate 1 Survivor to hit and hook.. Ruin's Job was to stall the Survivors into doing Gens.. Yes, It is a gamble perk but at least M1 Killers could get 1 or 2 Hook at least before Ruin is gone.. Now that nobody is using the useless new ruin, who would want to play Killer now? Only self-proclaimed killers who claims they don't use ruins but fails to show any video or evidence showing them that they are playing on the Red Ranks without ruin..
Hope this game dies soon..
3 -
I been doing just fine with the new ruin. I always used Corrupt anyway....this game wont die anytime soon :') this is not even a complain post...just a curious question.

Gonna need stats to back that one up. Matchmaking was bad every since the SWF change. My queue times actually improved with the ruin nerf.
And no, the game won't die anytime soon.
2 -
The rank issue is definitely part of the problem and I'm sure a lack of killers is another part of the problem.
I'd like to see the numbers, too; but that's not going to happen.
1 -
Oh it will die soon. With a lot of exclusive games to be out this year.. It will die soon.. In fact I'm just waiting for RE3 to come out.. At least I can leave this game permanently and Play Resistance.. At least you got a better chance in that Game as Mr.X than this unbalance survivor sided game.

Sure, everything dies eventually. I don't think that statement really means anything.
This game was supposed to "die" multiple times with every major change that pissed one side off and yet here it is. Growing in player count. Crazy, right?
2 -
There are people playing killer. There are just significantly less than there were before.
Growing in player count.
Wut? It's been stagnant in playercount more or less since about 5 months after it came out. It pops once in a while for DLC's, then evens out to around the same number. Stop making claims you don't actually have data on.
ALSO - statistical data to back my claim:

My queue times have gone up drastically since the Ruin nerf. I'm waiting anywhere from 8-16 minutes to find a game as Survivor.
Just my personal experience.

Almost like there's more than one platform to pull stats from. Go grab the PS4, XBox, Switch, and Windows store ones while you're at it.
1 -
Interesting. Maybe it's a region thing? By no means are my queues great but they do feel a few minutes shorter than usual.
1 -
Growing in player count? Lol.. In the past 3 years, The number is consistent on steam with at least 15K players daily.. back in 2016 to 2017, The highest peak player count was 80K.. But it dropped, and we have a consistent number between 13K-15K.. So what are you talking about? If the number of players increase, then that 15K daily should be at least 20K.. But for the past 2 years since 2018, It has always been consistent to 15K to 18K at peak.. I've been playing this game since 2016, So I know its peak and its down.. So How does player count grow? When in the past 2 Years, The Number of players has been consistent to 15K. And please show me stats, if you're a Steam player..

PC is the flagship platform with the largest overall playerbase in the game. Nice attempt at a strawman, though.

Ok
0 -
Not sure. My Killer queue's are instant. I play on Xbox NA, if that helps.
0 -
Ah I'm PC NA. That would explain the differences maybe.
I'm sorry I have different opinions than you?
1 -
Yeah we have different opinion.. That's ok.. But its funny that you didn't show me any stats that shows the number of players increase in the past few years, with a consistent daily players of 15K to 18K at peak.. Show me that it even increase to 20K-25K, Then i'll believe you.. And yeah we are talking about PC Stat here right? Because I play this game on Steam.. Leave the other stat for console players...

I mean you haven't shown me any stats to show that it's dying either. But I'm a bootlicker somehow in this situation. Until a suitable alternative asymmetrical multiplayer 1v4 game comes out that does everything DbD does but better, this game is here to stay.
0 -
But like any other game, It will die eventually.. Just look at their epic fail DeathGarden.. Even with a consistent 5K player base daily, They killed it.. Eventually dbd will soon follow it.. Time is the only essence here..

I posted the actual stats (not the made up ones) in my post above. It's worth a look.

It's dying.. Just look at the matchmaking.. How Green to Brown Rank killers are facing Red Rank God Loopers, Vice Versa.. If the player base increase, then you should have no problem with Killers facing with survivors on their rank, Vice Versa.. This was not a problem 3 to 5 months ago, And now with the Ruin nerf, It even got worst with Rank 20 facing Rank 1 vice versa.. I don't need stat to prove that the killer players drop. But you have the burden of proof to prove that the player base increase when it has always been consistent in the past 2 years that 15K players play this game daily with 18K at its peak.. Show me a stat that it increase to 20K-25K then I'll believe you that the player base grow.. But since you can't show me anything, then your claims are nothing but, Well "CLAIMS".. Lol..

You're actually both wrong. The actual statistical data (I love actual data, it gives me the warm and fuzzies) shows that while the playerbase is not getting bigger, it's not losing much ground either. That doesn't mean there aren't killers leaving and simply more survivors coming in and it's offsetting the matchmaking, but there is no (wait for it) *statistical data* on that to compare.
It's not dying, but it's not growing.

Its dying.. because the highest peak the game had was 80K.. It never had increase during those times, and now it drops to 15K daily.. If the player base really did increase in the past few years, then the daily should be more than the 80K back in 2017.. But you have like 15K daily with sometimes 13K the lowest.. So it is dying.. It is dying slowly but surely..

That's not due to the game dying. You can see the player count yourself and it isn't drastically decreasing.
Matchmaking is currently bugged and it's been stated before on a dev livestream that the game sometimes incorrectly identifies the killer's rank so those matches occur.
The emblem system also currently lets survivors rank up way easier than killers, resulting in more red rank survivors who aren't even that great of the game occupying another spot in red rank queue. Killers like Billy even struggle to pip since using the chainsaw gives you way less chaser points.
Also, 3-5 months ago (or around that time) was when the SWF change occurred, no longer averaging ranks and just picking the highest rank as what killer to queue against. 1 red rank with his 3 rank 20 friends will all be put into a red rank game, lowering the pool of red rank killers even more. I (and many others, such as OhTofu, a very prominent content creator), believe that is the reason that queues suck right now.
You can't show me anything either, you're just somehow linking the playerbase staying pretty consistent to somehow affecting queue times. Makes even less sense than what I'm saying.

Yeah, in May 2019. For literally one month. Before that, it was stagnant around the same number we have now, give or take population inflation during hot new DLC releases.
It spiked in May 2019 for various reasons: https://www.reddit.com/r/deadbydaylight/comments/bpdb9o/developer_update_may_2019/
Now, reading all that now, a lot of that...failed horribly, but on paper that was a lot of good stuff. So it brought people back for a short time.

For a short-time, I agree.. But as I said, There are more player drop than increase. It only shows that the game is dying.. Yes it will take some time before it dies eventually, But it is dying, Slowly but surely.. I will believe you if the player base increase by at least 5K daily, But with the stat we are having in the past few years, It has always been consistent to 15K daily, 18K at peak and 13K at its lowest.. Besides, the game only get 18K daily when a new killer is out.. Eventually it returns to 15K daily.. So Hopefully it will die soon. Time is just the essence here..

Killer queue time increased post-ruin rework in this region, so that doesn't add up.

There's not really more drops than increases...
There's clearly more increases. The drops are larger, yes, but there are more increases, and it evens out. You don't have to believe me, but I am providing you actual evidence. It's not me saying this. These are actual, factual, documented and live statistics. It doesn't matter what you choose to believe, but not believing the evidence makes you incorrect.
1 -
It increased because there are more survivors now (Because either a lot of Killer Mains switch to play Survivor but overall the player side of survivor never increase).. Try playing survivor.. In my region, PST, I got an average of 10-12 minutes on queue time as a survivor... The worst was 20-30 Minutes.. You don't have a problem as a Killer.. But as a Survivor.. You have.. That proves there are less Killer now with the Survivor queue time increasing.. Furthermore, Even if you found a killer after 10-30 minutes queue time, you face potato killers, vice versa..

They are well hidden for questions like this.

I already told you, If the daily increase to 20K to 25K. Then i'll believe there was a player base increase.. But as long you have a consistent 15K daily and sometimes 13K daily at the lowest stats.. It only proves that It is dying... But hear me out, I did said "DYING But Slowly and Surely".. As I said, Let "Time" do its work..

More survivors = lower queue time for killer.
This could also be down to a large number of survivors leaving the game, too. The game is horrific to play for both sides right now, as I already made a post on:
https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/125029/its-ironic-really#latest
0 -
More Survivors, But it is the same player base.. Since the player base did not increase apparently.. So these are the same casual players.. Not new players coming in..
0 -
I never said there was an increase. I literally said it is stagnant. As in *not getting higher or lower*.
Also...you might want to check those stats again...your numbers are still off. It's peaked at over 30k in the last 24 hours, and has an average of nearly 24,000 for the last month. It's also been more or less that way since about September.
PLEASE look at the statistics before you continue to respond. They are credible, and *real time*.

If killers move over to survivor, two things happen:
- Survivor queue times go up;
- Killer queue times go down.
Now what actually has happened in this region:
- Survivor queue time went down (slightly;)
- Killer queue time went up (slightly.)
I've already stated that this could be down to a large number of players leaving in general, or it could be due to an increase in killer players. Killers moving to survivor simply does not have the effect you claim it does.
0 -
It still does.. In fact you can read a lot on this forum alone.. Worst, Go to reddit where majority of Killers post their frustrations.. If there was an increase on the player base, then that is the side of survivor and not killer.. However the player base as whole did not increase.. Because we still have a consistent 15K players daily..
0 -
If it was a "consistent 15k players", why is the average since September nearly 24k? There's literally more than 15k playing *right now* at non peak times.
Doesn't sound very consistent.

In your opinion, you are allowed to have that belief.

This game is dying. Almost everyone I played with has quit and moved on. The game is HORRIBLE for new players, especially trying to play killer, and is waaay to grindy. Now with ruin nerf, new killers have ZERO chance at slowing gens down. Old killers are sick to death of getting beat with the nerf bat, watching survs get almost every buff, and are moving on. Also, all the new survival horror games coming out this year are gonna give this game a run for its $. Resident evil, predator HG, Last year, the possible resurrection of f13, and alllll the other ones too. Rumors of a HALLOWEEN game, and Evil Dead. If behavior continues favoring survs over killer, this game is HISTORY.

Care to elaborate? I gave a detailed explanation of WHY I believe the game is dying. Didn't just say it's dying and nothing else. Your telling me there still gonna be able to compete with the same old schtick they've had since release with all these new survival horror games coming out? Not to mention they'll probably be cross-platform too, because that's what developers are trying to aim towards now. A lot of the old school player base has quit playing. They DO hang around on the forums HOPING for a shred of light that changes the game, or at least makes it enjoyable again. Can you blame them? They paid there hard earned $, they deserve to be heard and can post as much as they want on here. Maybe people should be a lil less toxic and give a ######### about the other person for a change, instead of coming on here just looking to bash someone for something they said that made them butthurt.
