What's the counterplay to keys?
An item that gives an entire team a cheap win has to have significant counterplays, just like how BBQ can be denied in almost all circumstances, right? Would anyone mind listing some strong counterplay to this item? I've been looking around, but all I've really seen is bringing Franklin's, which doesn't really help for in-match key grabs.

An entire team gets a free win? If all 4 survivors are alive when the hatch spawns then that means they did 5 gens. That's not a free win.

4 survivors escaping through the hatch is probably not a free win (...but maybe you were trying an end game build, and in that case yes, it is), but what about 3 survivors escaping at 1 gen?
That's absolutely free, since when there's only one generator left the game is far from over, especially if the killer managed to secure 3 generators easy to patrol.
so, to answer OP question: the only thing you can do is to slug once survivors are one generator away having the hatch spawn. Not very fun yeah.

Kill 'em all before they finish repairing any gens.

I guess if you ignore the fact that they did 4 gens, were able to survive and all found the hatch, then yes it's "free" lol.
I'm not saying keys don't need changes, but I think words need to be used correctly.

I'm not ignoring anything. You are ignoring the fact that completing the last generator is the most difficult part of the game, if the killer applied the correct strategy throughout the game, though :)

You do not understand the definition of the word free, then.

Dodge lobbies with keys. Kill the one with the key first. Run franklins. Otherwise it's just luck of the draw. Keys drop at 7% or 14% rate depending on plunderers. Then they have to find hatch before you. If you are a high mobility killer like billy, the odds are even worse for them. Just accept that much of this game is RNG and the odd survivor will get away using a key.

Possibly. What word do you suggest instead of free :)?
Do you like cheap :)?

Yup. That word checks out in many situations with keys.

Ebony Mori because both are BS.

Slug everyone at 2 gens, hook everyone at the same time. Key is useless now.

glad we can agree on the semantics then.
So... I'm fairly certain OP would agree as well that keys can give a cheap win to (almost) the entire team. Now, do you have any IT comment on how to counter this?

Franklins Demise? No?

Tunneling.

Keys, much like Moris, are just one of those things. A big part of the base game is intended on adapting and sometimes just accepting fates hand. Somethings your teams spawns in and you're against a freddy with an ebony. Sometimes they have a key.
It can be frustratin to lose a sense of power to something so out of your control, especially since you can't pre-emptively plan against it and seeing if a key is a normal aura reader or a hatch opener is nearly impossible from the hobby alone.
There is no real way around it besides to always focus on the chase and not be afraid to hit people you run into even if it's only to slug them. If you're against a sweaty forever looping team with a key. Then, well, you're buggered but let's be fair it's probably for the best the game ended as quickly since those games are hardly fun in my opinion.
If it's not then I suggest that you play to your perk build as best you can. If you got an end game perk then focus on the chase. Don't even focus on gen regression...just focus on getting downs in as exposed areas as you can. Very rarely will people with a key leave someoe behind which gives you more chances to catch some more if you play well. You won't get all of them.
but you might get some of them.

Seeing how you now lose 2-3 gens in the early game as killer: nothing. You could tunnel them or camp them but then you’re risking the game and it’s not like the key vanishes. Someone else could still pick it up and use it. But then again, there’s not much a survivor can do about a mori either. They’re really just both broken...
I’ve never had any issues finding my item back whenever I get hit by it. It’s only going to prevent a hatch escape whenever you’re in chase with the last survivor holding the key. But even then, if they don’t get hit they could get away as well.

I didn't realize you were a moderator.

Key just need animation of opening - progress of opening does not save every time you must start from the begining let's say 5 s or so

I'm not seeing any counterplay to keys besides Franklin's if the survivors equip it pre-game, unfortunately. Does anyone have any additional ideas?

I would honestly just take the guy with the key out as quickly as I could.

That just leaves the key on the floor, and then you don't know who has it.

You must slug all 4.

the only quote unquote counter play is mori. as of now there is no counter play to them.
Both do give cheap wins and personally i don't bring either cause i wont feel like i deserved that 4K or escape.

Oh, same. The only mori I really feel is deserved is Devour Hope. And even then, I'll sometimes avoid it if I feel that it was just one person farming the whole match.

Counterplay against survivors wouldn't be very fun. But hey, as a killer I'm sure you can put aside your fun and just not care about having fun or not having fun. I also don't really think it's a good idea to compare one thing to another thing when you're discussing whether or not something is balanced. You don't compare a key to a mori - you make an argument for why, alone, they are or are not something that is busted.
