No ED doesn't have realistic counterplay
No ED doesn't have that much counter-play because of the random nature of the totem spawns. There might be 20+ possible totem spawns on the map, some are easy, some are hard, some are common, others more rare.
Nancy was my first survivor I leveled up and I've always run Inner Strength. Trust me I'm a good totem hunter, but in my almost 200 hours played I don't even think I've seen all the totem spawns in game yet. I know where to look and usually cleanse two to three totems per match, but every once and awhile I get a game where I can't even find one for the life of me because teammates cleanse the easy ones and there's like 1 or 2 super hard ones left. (Lerys, Hawkins and the Game are a nightmare sometimes).
You really shouldn't expect survivors to know the totem spawns on every map, every time. It's not realistic and it's not intuitive. Also, it always has a randomness factor, because you could get an easy map with easy spawns or a hard map with hard spawns. And the killer has no control over what they get.

You really shouldn't expect survivors to know the totem spawns on every map
But we should expect killers to win a 4v1, with the current gen speed, winning 12 chases because tunneling and camping are bad, lel.

Here's an idea. When the second to last gen pops, the survivors get a notification that the killer is running No ED. Slows down the game because it turns into a totem hunt so the killer has more map pressure and the survivors aren't going to gen rush the last gen
3 -
I have zero problem cleansing all 5 totems in a match. Small Game is underrated.
39 -
If I'm within 12m of a totem, I can find it on my own. Don't need a noise notification.
The issue is when a totem is well hidden in a dead zone with no gen nearby on the map, so I would never come across it in normal gameplay
2 -
I have managed to find all the totems on a map before. There usually is a pattern with totem locations, just have to really pay attention. I clean totems every game no matter what.
NOED is fine, leave it alone. Cleansing totems is how you counter it. Can't find them all? Well, so be it. Teammates should be breaking them too.
11 -
If you hate it so much, bring Small Game or use the buffed version of Detective's Hunch. There IS counter play, it's just survivors not wanting to get rid of their normal meta perks.
20 -
The only maps where I have trouble finding the totems are the indoor ones and that's because they don't follow the same pattern as the other maps.
I prefer to take note of two totems and cleanse the rest. When the last gen pops I check those last two totems to see if they are lit and cleanse accordingly.
2 -
Sorry. You're right I need to spend $5 and level up Detective Tapp to level 35. Then level up my other survivors to get Detective's Hunch so I can run an off meta perk. All to counter a free perk that every killer has access to and is meta.
Small game doesn't cut it in the scenarios I'm talking about. If I'm within 12m of the totem, I already know where it is so that perk's useless
7 -
It's been on the shrine store several times. Small Game is also free for everyone and gets the job done. Clearly, NOED bothers you so much, so equip small game and go totem hunting? It's not like you have to worry about your team mates not doing gens because ruin no longer slows down the game for the killer in the early game. Small Game will also let you memorize where those tricky well hidden totems are so you won't have to use it anymore once you know of their location.
I play solo survivor and the first thing I do is go totem hunting. Guess what? Gens are still getting done and I don't waste much time anyway since cleansing a totem doesn't take anything. Also, I could find another killer hex along the way and get rid of it.
There's counter play to it. You just don't want to sacrifice a little bit of time or a perk to get rid of it.
14 -
It also glows once it's active making it easier to spot at that point. When I've run noed in red ranks it's usually been absolutely useless.
At the end of the game they break any lit totem they see on the way, and if I do get one noed hit in they immediately find and break it under 20 seconds and still have tons of time to get the guy off hook, take hits and get him out.
It's borderline useless. It can carry you for a kill or something at the end game, if you don't break totems and are low tier and uncoordinated, but even then a lot of time it's the worse the killer is the more likely it is they have it, and easier it is to break the totems.
3 -
Im going to go ahead and guess you are fairly new to the game, less then 600 or so hours
1 -
I guess I'll make it my challenge to get back to rank 4 this season with my hand tied behind my back from running a borderline useless perk and not rushing gens just to memorize the totems because my 200 hours in this game running Inner Strength isn't enough
2 -
Imagine calling small game a borderline useless perk when complaining about NOED. Yeah, we're done here. Next.
12 -
Totems=Healing so going a little out of my way throughout the match to find 2 or 3 in the spots i have memorized pays off.
Wasting a perk slot to run around the map just to find the hard totem spots I don't know in case the killer is running No ED. That's not worth it.
0 -
If running a perk to counter noed is "not worth it" then surely you would think that noed isnt much of an issue to begin with.
10 -
Sorry old sport ;) , you can find totems by simply walking around the map and doing gens.
3 -
Definitely not worth it if the killer is Hag, Trapper, Freddy with dream pallets, and the 1k BP per every totem you cleansed is NOT worth it.
1 -
Hag and Trapper are super off meta.
Freddies usually don't run dream pallets in my experience (they usually have the stupid paintbrush tho). I have all the perks I want and 900k bloodpoints saved up.

If you have a game with that easy totem spawns, small game is sandbagging you
0 -
All I'm getting from your replies is that you don't want to sacrifice one of your meta perks to get rid of a killer perk that can be rendered useless during the match. Or go out of your way to go totem hunting when matches don't even last super long anymore.

Yeah. And I think that's fair.
I'm not swapping Decisive, Inner Strength, Spine Chill or Head On just because there's no way to tell if I killer is running No ED in advance and so I have to cleanse all five totems with little reward just to be sure... which usually means the game doesn't make it to endgame because the amount of time wasted focusing all the totems sandbags my team so No ED wouldn't even come into play
0 -
Five, bright white totems exist on maps. NOED depends on these. They can be destroyed and prevent noed from ever happening. Doesn't have a counterplay.
You can tell this person is new, and just needs to git gud.
There was nothing rude about his comment.
4 -
I get it. However, even if the killer doesn't have it, you're still being rewarded with points in boldness (I think it's boldness) and 1k BP per totem. Plus, inner strength is great to have with small game too since you'll know where totems are at to go and cleanse when you use inner strength once.
See, let's say the killer doesn't have NOED at all. Even if small game alerts you once throughout the entire match, you would have gotten use out of it. On the flip side, if the killer has NOED, the killer plays with 3 perks for the entire match hoping that NOED activates for them during the end game. It can be completely negated for them and not have a single use whatsoever.
1 -
Okay, not to be that guy but this is pretty close to complaining about BBQ aura's but refusing to hide in a locker levels of wow.
You have multiple options available to you for these totems. You don't even have to cleanse them all, just know where they are and check on them after the gens are done instead of going right to a gate. Being able to know the killer is running Noed would make the perk beyond useless, like Saboteur without a toolbox levels of awful.
8 -
I literally run Inner Strength and Head On. I love lockers. I stay injured until someone gets picked up and then go into the locker so I heal and avoid BBQ at the same time to maximize efficiency.
That's the reason why No ED is bad. It's extremely inefficient to search for all the totems and you can't trust your solo queue teammates to do it if you don't take it upon yourself
1 -
Litrally two unrelated things.
0 -
I'm sorry, but if you're running a meme perk like Head On, and complaining that you might have to swap it for an actually useful perk, I'm not sure what else there is to say.
I mean, besides begging the devs to bring back the lol button.
12 -
So what exactly is your main complaint here before we continue? Totems should be easier to find, you should know the killer has Noed before it's active, totem counter even?
I know you're title says it's unrealistic but I feel you're arguing about something else entirely. Noed has plenty of realistic options to counter it so what exactly is your main complaint then?
3 -
The reason NOED hurts you is actually your own fault. Not because NOED is bad. This is a matter of you having a plethora of options to prevent it, and not wanting to partake in any of said options.
Get better. Stop being lazy. Cleanse totems.
2 -
My complaint is that you can list all the counters to the meta perk: No ED
But they're all very situational and require you to waste time and slots to anticipate what's going to happen without knowing for sure
Here's an easy solution make No ED increase the number of totems to eight. That way If the survivors see extra totems, they know its in use BUT they know its in use so they have the option to counter it.
No ED be could a perk to slow down the game because it wastes the survivors time due to the extra totems and the requirement to cleanse them. Instead of being the lame end of game camping perk that's a crutch for mediocre killers to prevent saves or win by slugging

Anything less than 600 hours in a game is being new? Lolwut
0 -
I just had a game where I destroyed all 5 totems, and we still did all the gens and escaped in under 10 minutes. Solo queue, no map, no perk to help me. Killer had NOED, but I destroyed the totems. Also double pipped. All at rank 2.
But no. There's no counter.
4 -
That was not on Lerys, The Game or Hawkins.
Probably autohaven or something
0 -
It has so much counterplay. Which is something you can't say about Adrenaline.
4 -
This made me laugh and cry at the same time.
0 -
It was actually on Hawkins. The totem spawns there are pretty knowledgeable now. I remember totem spawns because I'm not a pepega. You can do it too.
0 -
12 chases? 😕
If you're attempting to 4K then that might be why you think killers are weak because you're not supposed to 4K every game. The developers want to balance killers around a 2K, not a 4K.
0 -
NoED is bullshit.
Thing is, NoED is the only perk killers have that is definitely bullshit, and while it isn't reliably counterable, it's not exactly reliable.
On the other hand, survivor perks routinely provide power on par with NoED, but do so reliably and with even less counterplay.
1 -
No, you're wrong, NOED has counters, and either takes a little bit of the time of survivors to dedicate themselves to something else than gens, or make them suffer for it.
0 -
There are realistic counters
That you don't want to bother doing them is your problem
3 -
Yes and no. While the wording wasn't great I believe what they wanted to say was.
"Survivor shouldn't have to learn totem spots, yet killers must know how to run loops optimally to catch good survivors"
Its the double standard BHVR has created with "survivors find X frustrating/survivor fun" yet they make comments such as "added X for killer challenge".
1 -
Adrenaline has no counter play
Dead Hard has no counter play (if you respond to this statement, you do not play this game at a high enough level)
Sprint Burst has no counter play
Balanced Landing has no counter play
Decisive Strike has limited counter play and running into a locker with it is absolutely broken
Borrowed Time has no effective counter play
Object of Obsession has no counter play
Most meta killer perks are easily countered, including NOED. The only thing stopping you from countering most killer perks is your greed and laziness. If you think you can reach the highest levels of this game without knowing every single facet of it, you are the epitome of survivor entitlement.
3 -
I usually go straight for totems instead of gens since I know one teammate is probably being chased and other two are on gens. Usually get all five before first two gens are done and NOED is no more
NOED is fine if not a wasted perk slot when I'm in the game since I never get hit by it. Stop being lazy and go look for them. There's a pattern so you can always know where they're at. One spawns basically in every corner of the map and somewhere between or in the middle of the map. Think of that next game and you'll get them all

Small game is awesome...especially when you find out you are going against a trapper.... hehe

Do bones kid, stop complaining.
