DC penalty system - IMPROVED ideas for BOTH sides of the argument! Please read! -all

Options

SO can we have a CIVIL discussion here and not a "loser takes all" thing and talk like normal humans?

A NEW, revised system. Which has the following changes:

The system no longer says "exit match" it says "FORFEIT THIS MATCH". with a message that says "ARE YOU SURE?"

The system then does NOT allow anyone to spectate if they have forfeited the match.

The game alots 6 NON PENALIZED Forfeits PER day when you press "EXIT MATCH". With the top one being. Once 6 are exceeded. it would be 8 minutes and resets in 24 hours. With 10 being used in 1 hour. It would bump the person up to 25 minute timeout. (adjustable and debatable).

It should also ask one of the following Questions. after pressing "FORFEIT". once the game's match closes and you cannot re-enter another match without an answer.

  • I had a family situation to attend to.
  • A player Was doing something I felt was against game rules.
  • My team mates were perhaps lacking match participation.
  • There was a Bug or Glitch the disrupted my gameplay.
  • I was unable to continue gameplay due to a stalemate.
  • Other. - Please explain.

If the person "pulls the plug". the game will come back with a message.

"Before entering the game you need to select from one of the following options as to why your connection closed.

  • Something occurred in the match where the game randomly closed out or locked up.
  • I lost connection to the game server.
  • I had a family situation to attend to.
  • A player Was doing something I felt was against game rules.
  • My team mates were perhaps lacking match participation.
  • There was a Bug or Glitch the disrupted my gameplay.
  • Weather related.
  • Other. - Please explain.

and LEAVE it at that. This would give the devs feedback VERY quickly and help them solve issues in the game so they CAN address it. I am not here to bring down the game. But there can be a happy medium here that keeps this a "party game". Remember, this is just meta data. It helps form a blueprint as to why there are problems here in the game.

I had to sit inside of a datacenter and sort through HOURS worth of gamelogs, so can anyone else. PuTTy FTW and having to wear earplugs next to those big old ultra 320 SCSI HDD banks.. 😎

    CORRECTIONS:

    i. "the system would not allow a person that has forfeited the match to spectate after they have left. A new icon would appear with a FLAG instead of a power plug on the icon.

ii. "Have a discussion like CIVIL acting persons".

Sounds like a good idea, but I wouldn't want to plagiarize the way Rocket League deals with it, as it sounds similar.

I've never played Rocket league lolz.

The community has an underlying issue which put us at this point. In all of my hours of glory on this game, from playing the game on my bud's pc up until I had money to BUY this game. It NEVER use to have this problem up until last year.

There will always be an uptick because of people that play this game and have a FAMILY. My bud plays this game quite a bit, he just started a family and still wants to game late at night after everyone goes to bed. If the kid wakes up and has a nightmare or needs something. He has to be a FATHER first.

Not like some of these people you read where they abandon their children first, over video games.

But regardless to that statement. The leavers in this game are heavy. That's a sign of something and it isn't a game that is being "old". That was the same excuse blizzard used for their shortcomings with World of Warcraft.

The devs need to be doing what the rest of us "old time" early 2000s game hosts had to do and that was LOOKING AT DATA. Very boring, but I generally looked at logs, drank some coffee, talked with people. and then would sift through logs.

I mean I wasn't working for any AAA title company and nothing to brag about on a resume since the company closed (Hey, owners spend money and don't put it back into a business, it closes!),

(with not a trace of it left. Because they didn't want to pay their owed money.) 😏

I at least got to walk away with a few servers in hand as a "payment" and they left. I lost my investments too. yup..

Needless to say. that startup went UNDER because of cheaters AND the fact that the owners didn't want to do the same thing everyone else does and LOOK THROUGH LOGS. It is very easy to do. it also gets game companies in trouble when they don't. (like this one I was at, failed). everyone wants a nice fancy picture and ignore the problems.

    ------

regardless. My figures here would make sense. It plays into the game we call "LIFE" and factors in some decent figures I use to have that I am just FREELY giving away as some advice, from MY experience at doing this stuff.

6 non-penalized dc's per day is extreme. 1 would be the absolute maximum.

Also what would the devs do with replies like "family emergency" or "I didn't like how the opponent played"? And what would stop people from lying?

I'm all for the 5 minute penalty for the first DC. After that if a survivor DC's I would make it where they can't get another match until the one they left finishes. If doesn't matter if the match they left goes 10 minutes or 30 minutes. That way they don't get the opportunity to be put in a lobby for another match until they people they quit on do also. How much more fair can it get than to say the person that quit can't get a match before the people they left behind.

I don't know how to work that thought process for when a killer DC's since that ends the game immediately. But then again the majority of DC's aren't coming from killers.

...If you have a "family emergency" or your connection is lost due to a weather related issue, then chances are those things are going to take at least 5 minutes to resolve or close to it (the duration of your timeout).

Unless you're the unluckiest fella on the planet and the world happens to go against you every single time you get into a game then the current shouldn't affect you too much.

A free pass on the first wouldn't hurt though, most games give you a free pass on the first too.

Stuff happens, especially game errors and problems, giving people one would really help ease a lot of the frustrations with the system right now.

6 free passes per day? Come on, even 1 per week would be plenty.

How about they fix the servers that randomly disconnect people, fix the rank update error that somehow counts as a disconnect, fix the gamebreaking bugs and then disconnect penalties would be less of an issue?

They still haven’t commented on that healing bug that creates disconnect standoffs. It was in the game last time you tested the penalties and it’s still in now!!!!!

I like your idea though about the reports. “My team mates are refusing to participate”

Yeah because the issue with this is that if you get trolls who sandbag, people afk, or people who disconnect/suicide on hook within first minute then you’re left behind in a garbage game.

VERY IMPORTANT HERE - HEY IT IS PEANITS!

6 is actually fairly necessary. given what has been occurring here. In a 12 hour gaming session this game has a "hard crash frequency". I am going to call this a "memory leak". even though there may be something else going on here. I'd like to think it is just me. But it is NOT.

I am playing on a VERY nice computer, infact i have 3 other people in my group that run with me throughout the day that are running nicer machines than I am, from all the various vendors on the market. mixes of SSDs, Data center edition drives...

We have someone here with a rig that spent several grand on just the RAM, alone, in all 8 slots. as well as all the other stuff we wished we could own. this guy works for the wealthiest man in our state, and his IT department built this rig for him and set it up, on the side after work-hours. So I am sure you can agree with me. That the PC has been built to "above par, over-spec settings". Nobody here is playing on WiFi and 3 other of my buds are on a fiber connection.

My connection: I am sitting roughly 1/16th of a mile from one of the LARGEST U.S. data-drops buried and I KNOW I don't have connection issues and when I do. It doesn't sputter. It goes DARK.

ISSUES with this game, embarrassing on livestreamers channels, "WHAT IS THIS GAME?!" because of VERY APPARENT game-crashes.

I have a mix of INTEL and AMD people here that are playing this game. That mix their systems with all sorts of parts. They have the same crash-frequency. They have big spendy pocket-books and experience the near-same crash rates that I do.

    ------

But wait what? yes, this game HARDLOCKS. That means that the program is still running, you see the screen an the system still runs. There are plenty of youtube videos of this occurring. Where people are pressing Ctrl-alt-delete because of a hardlock and the game still counts it as a penalty.

    -------

So what about this still being "6". not only are High School kids playing this game, College students. But ADULTS who are PARENTS. I don't know if anyone here has ever read into what happened in the days of World of Warcraft where parents were CHARGED with "child neglect" because they wouldn't get up from their PC. The same thing makes sense here. You have a large demographic group of players that LOVE YOUR GAME. Celebrate it.

    ---

So if we crunch some numbers here. 6 would STILL sound like it is too low. But I think 6 would work out. Life happens, the world happens. This is NOT a competitive game where money is at stake here.

This really isn't about 6 being an encouragement of ruining the game experience for others. it is about a decent number that gives players 6 chances in a day. To exit the match without a penalty, because the universe doesn't align, and never will. 🙂

Yeah, 6 DCs is crazy. I didn't disconnect in forever. My last disconnect was because my computer was really old and sometimes a game crashed because of a RAM problem and that was like three months ago. My last intentional DC was maybe a year ago, I don't really remember.

6 DC's?! Absolutely not. There's no reason why anyone should ever have to DC more than once. If something comes up and you HAVE to leave the match, then just do it. But that should not have to happen repeatedly. And if so, stay off the game.. However, there's no way for the DEV's to differentiate between legitimate reasons for DC'ing (weather-related, family emergencies, etc) than someone who's rage quitting. DC is a DC.

I've been playing this game since Mid-2018 and I've only DC'd several times (only 1 of those being due to rage quitting) and the other due to actually having to leave because something just came up mid-game. I usually try and stay off of DBD if I know I may have to leave.

Ultimately, everyone should get at least 1 free DC a day, and that's me being generous..

That is absolutely bonkers! No. Just no. There is no point at all to DC penalty if they gave you 6 free DC's a day! About the only thing I think they should do is to allow you to gain a "player in good standing" status if you don't DC, suicide on hook in the first 3 minutes as a survivor or camp as a killer for 10+ consecutive games which would give people a 15% bonus to all bloodpoints earned. Once the player has good standing status if they maintain it for at least 10 games then they can earn ONE disconnect with no penalty or loss of good standing. That means for every 20 good games the player has they can have one disconnect. That would be fair.

6 is really not too bad. I mean I'd play this game for about 12 hours in a session and say that there are matches that just will NEVER END. Okay. I've had it I am going to unload this here.

I am not saying I am anymore special that anyone else. But there are parents and people that have things that have to happen in life. where they still need a way to walk away from a game without these stacking penalties. and if someone cannot grasp this concept. Than I am truly sorry I hope you never have to work a job like I do, and I hope you never have to be a parent.

THE BIG REASON WHY I HATE THIS BAN and think it is awful

() I in the summertime. I handle things that law enforcement leave to specialists like me to control. I take care of HONEYBEE HAULER accidents. Everything from minor spills at truck stops to the major highway accidents. Mostly my schedule consists of truck stop spills all summer. I left I.T. because lthe economy tanked in 08' here in the States.

I do and I am aware of the DC thing. I used DC, we all did or do. Anyone here that says they didn't abuse the system lies too. Because we all have used DC. But what SHOULD have been done is something within REASON. Not this. Work a job like this, in the public service sector and have a family. Nobody should have to abandon gaming just because of some petty thing.

I never abused the system. Ever. The only times I have ever DC'd are when a gamebreaking bug prevented me from playing/finishing the game, when the power went out from my house, when I was randomly pulled away to collect stuff from a laundromat, and when my laptop randomly auto-shut down on me in the middle of a game to update. The current system is exactly what the game needs. Not your system that comes with six "Get Out of Jail Free" cards daily.

And I didn't even DC when a gamebreaking bug got me stuck in a gen as Killer.

It was a good thing too because I figured out how to free myself for a better bug report.

Then I am very truly sorry there are people out there that never had enough life experiences to understand this.

Everything from the person that works farms to provide produce to your table, to the person that sits at night sitting next to their pager for EMS, FIRE, ROAD, POLICE, Military, Civil Defense, waiting for YOUR call when disaster strikes at home, in your neighborhood .

Those people play video games at night and in their spare time. While they are the watchmen as you sleep, sound and comfortable at night. Go talk with that person that works the fire station, ask them what they do at night. They aren't just sitting around doing paperwork or watching that old vacuum tube television.

That person waiting for the emergency call is probably not going to care that they were locked out of playing for five whole minutes.

5 minutes wont matter. But if you go look at how much further these penalties go than just a simple 5, 10 15. They go much higher. Go test the system for yourself and see just how far they stack, then come back here and talk about it.

Those people normally dont expect a videogame to revolve around their lifestyle.

Playing videogames at your job and alt+f4'ing when customers arrive should NOT be considered when implementing DC penalties. Expecting the whole commmunity to adjust to your ######### play times with 6 free DCs is out of my mind.

So no, no sympathy for playing videogames at work and having to quit for work. really

The person waiting for the emergency call isn't going to be pulled away from the game literally every day. The penalty upgrades reset after 24 hours.

    This is.. insane..

Btw parents/busy people usually don't spend 12 hours a day on DbD with at least 6 shorter than penalties but absolutely necessary breks in the middle of games..

Reading your last messages you are completely insane AND condescending. I have no words.

"The incremental penalties will decay naturally over time, starting after the most recent matchmaking ban has completed."

I don't know, I still feel that you shouldn't have to leave 6 games per day, even if you need to respond to one emergency. And the penalties decrease again if you stop DCing. I really think that if they would give you free DCs they should give no more than one free DC a day. That's already generous. Yes, it's unfortunate if you have to leave because of an emergency and get a penalty but it's also not fun to play the game and have a survivor disconnect every single game you play.

You presenting an absurdly abusable idea and daring to use the people who in the most extreme cases put their lives on the line to save others as an excuse to justify this highly abusable idea with absolutely zero effort to even consider the rammifications of your idea does not mean it is our fault for thinking this is a terrible idea.

Yes, that's a real mature reaction.

(By the way, a friend of mine that plays this game is a police officer and he doesn't mind the penalty system, he normally plays during his free time and not during work. If he has to respond to an emergency while playing the game that is every once in a while and not several times a day, so he wouldn't even notice the penalty.)

Six leaves per day? Are you serious? It should be 1 per week. These games are incredibly short and leaving should be worth the penalty. i.e. A family emergency trumps the penalty, so who cares if you're blocked out.

This is some of the most entitled insane reasoning ever.

I'm for the penalty increasing to 30 minutes for first offense, and 24 hours for second.

Also, why would you ask someone why they left when clearly everyone is going to pick "Family emergency?" If a system can be gamed, it will be gamed.

Sorry this is a bad Idea.

DCing should be peanalized from the very first one. That's why the system gives u a lesser timer on the Earlier DCs. If you really needed to DC for a situation outside the game you'll be back just as the timer is up. If not just listen to a song or something 5 minutes is nothing.

Gving people the option to "forfeit" would be the same thing, You need DC penalties in any online multiplayer game because one person leaving a game ruins it for the other 4 remaining. DC if you want but expecting no Punishment is ridiculous.
