Really, how unfair is the disconnect ban? (see below)

In respect to the disconnect ban. Now that I'm calm. I want to present this clearly and rationally. I really would like thoughts on this matter. However logical and rational thoughts only. If your going to be one of the asses that tells me sucks to be you don't play or play to much. Please don't respond. I'm trying to start a balanced and well thought conversation going.

First playing DND for as much as I have (already 47 on latest Rift) I get the reason for the penalty, I too hate the sourpusses that leave because it didn't go their way. Take your lumps and finish the match. If the penalty actually discriminated to Target those who purposefully DC I would be all behind it. However when even this very forum states there will be no difference between an intentional DC and a computer crash and proceed to give out a 23 hour ban, after the amount of time and money I've invested I have a huge problem. As you read this consider my last 5 days of over 90 hours of play roughly 270 matches. On top of the fact the 3 1/2 hour ban you'll see was not cause by my internet but DBD's wonderful dedicated server. That match was being played and suddenly the entire game just dissapeared. Started the game back up to a 3 1/2 hour ban. That's punishing DCers how?

So unfortunately I'm in the position that I can only get internet in my area in 60 min intervals. Living in a condo I'm only aloud by association bylaws access to a limited number of providers. I have tried 3 different ones and none of them work with the DBD network.  Between latency issues and provider controlled NAT types I can't use any of the games I get from the Microsoft Store (I'm cross platform PC) except with this hourly wifi service. Now I'm not writing this to #########. I just want to present the situation I'm in and would love logical opinions of what this ban is doing. I'm calm today, lol and can speak logically and rationally. 🙄

So the above is my internet situation. I can't change that. Now I have purchased all the DLC, the full game and many cells for season passes and such. I'm pretty vested in this game and a retiree on a fixed income. None of this comes cheap. So with service drops I have always been pretty good about resetting my service before the 60 min period is up. But you know how matches go. Some 2 min, some 20. It's easy to get caught up in gameplay. So yes every now and then I may be in the middle of a match and usually when I'm having the game of my life, lol my service drops. Not intentional, ######### happens though. Now coming full circle this is where I would love fair and balanced opinions. From Thursday night to yesterday at 7pm I logged in over 90 hours of game play. Slot of caffeine and this is my social life, lol. Now think of how many matches that is and compare it to this. In a 24 hour period (and this ban rule never resets)

Fri night on a 18 hour run dropped a total of 3 times. So let's just say 3 full matches per hour for 18 hours I'm not causing slot of people grief.

1st drop - 5 min

2nd drop - 8 min

3rd drop - 23 min.

Didn't have another internet drop until Sunday morning around 4 am.

4th drop - 3 1/3 hours. Didn't have another internet drop until Mon at 6 and that was a 5 1/2 hour ban. After that I'm now setting an alarm on my phone for a 10 min heads up to make sure I'm out of any match by reset time. Didn't have another drop until last night at 7 and I had been playing 24/7 straight since resigning in at 11pm Mon night. Yesterday I was in a Survivor mode match had a great team and when my 10 min reminder went off I really thought we at the point of the match ending in under 10 mins. I pushed my luck against the killer to complete the match. He ended up hooking me, I let the Entity take me and as my body is 90 percent in the sky, bam my internet dropped me. I was already gone and the last survivor was on a hook as well, match was over. When I signed back on I was banned for 23 hours. Seriously this just keeps building penalty time never starts over. So my question is this asking for a rational opinion not being sarcastic or looking for oh guess you can't play.

Given the time and money I've invested in this and looking at this:

Period of play 5 days roughly over 90 hours of play.

Roughly 270 matches vs 5 drops and I'm banned for almost a full 24 hours.

I ask in all sincerity how fair is that and am I in the right to call bullshit?

    @deadnoob187

First to clarify if this is fair or not, I need to go back to where the issue of DCing all came from in the first place and why the system was added to counter-act said issue.

    the origins of DCing...

For one, there's a lot of reasons for why someone DCs, it could be because of a crash, the game "didn't go their way" or the match was "unfun", and in some cases, the game drops their connection due to their service provider.

"The game didn't go my way so why should I play?"

Now, for the case of DCing because "the game didn't go their way" is why this system was added in the first place. You might know this already, but some players don't stay in a match for a variety of reasons that "didn't go their way"

[For this reason to DC, they DC because]:

    • They were found first
    • They got downed first
    • The Survivor lost the first chase and got downed fairly easily
    • Their teammates are not "god tier"
    • They know the match will result in their death/loss
    • The specific Killer they're facing is a Killer they dislike
    • The add-ons and/or Offerings that Killer uses are OP and unfair

And other reasons too, but these are the main focus to this "sub-section of DCing". Now, because DCing used to be so easy to do and players learned after years how to work around it, it eventually got out of hand and causes mass DCing to occur throughout the games earlier days.

Sometimes DCing would get so bad, it would happen in multiple games as the Killer! This actually happened to me at one point, where I was amassing 8 games in a row at one time with 1+ DCs in it! Because of this growing issue that was literally "killing" the match-making in a sense, it started to get out of hand. As such, BHVR stepped in and created the new DC Penalty System to counter-act this big issue. The system isn't perfect of course, but it did solve a massive problem that has been plaguing DBD for literal years.

For context, some Survivors also DC because the game wasn't fun or the Killer was sweating too hard to something. While understandable it isn't fun to face a Pre-Prayer Beads Spirit for example, DCing against her isn't really making you the better person in that scenario...

my story about a similar situation I used to have...

The description for this part is weird, so allow me to elaborate a bit. As said above, the new DC Penalty System isn't perfect and some issues come from it in the form of players, like you, who crash due to their internet not being 400+ MBS and/or near perfect.

As the title suggests, I used to have this issue as well before we finally upgraded our internet to 400+ MBS, my internet would crash periodically due to having 3 MBS of download speed! After awhile, I thought I was going to get in trouble for DCing so much in-game (Obviously unintentionally) because my internet constantly crashed and than sometimes didn't for a while.

Sometimes in-game my internet would also randomly lag spike, which made players automatically assume I was lag-switching (which I obviously wasn't), so after awhile we were lucky enough to have new poles installed prior to here I live (which is about 300 feet from the nearest road surrounded by trees) and got our internet to be upgraded to 400+ MBS. After that, my internet has never had drops, crashes, and downloads things insanely fast!

But that's just my story on a similar situation you have, I was fortunate to have this issue resolved... but your story indicates otherwise. For players that also had my past issues, they're more prone to be punished by the system because their internet causes the crashing. After awhile, the issue of "is this fair to those players?" comes into question, and thus the debate begins.

Is this fair for players with sub-par/bad internet?

In my honest 100% opinion, I don't think it's fair, but allow me to say this. The System was added to prevent a years long battle with DCing, as such, the system is necessary to stop this issue and improve the match-making overall with players that refuse to play against certain "obstacles".

For players that can't help but crash, it's understandable why this isn't fair to players like you. I can only hope that the system will detect crashing as not DCing soon, but obviously this would open avenues for abuse if it did. It's not easy to have a system detect certain crashing, since I don't think that's even possible... but I honestly believe players like you shouldn't have to suffer because of a year long battle of players abusing the DCing system.

Again, the DCing System is a necessary system that fights constant DCing in-game, and while it's not perfect and causes issues for players with worse internet, it's a "necessary evil" if you want to look at it that way.

to be 100% clear on what i'm saying...

Personally, I enjoy the new system since it stops constant DCing and punishes players for intentionally leaving mid-match, but to be 100% clear, I don't think it's entirely fair to players that suffer from constant crashing like you, and hopefully this issue is resolved in the future since, as of late, a fair bit of players have come forward about this issue, even if their internet doesn't constantly crash BUT crashes mid-match unintentionally.

I have come across this issue again and again. I repeat for the last time. If there was an unfortunate incident due to the dedicated server or if you have an urgent job, ######### in the hook immediately.

I don't think dying on the hook will stop this issue for this player, that's the main issue he's facing, that the periodic crashing is met with penalties, regardless if they're intentional or not.

If I notice this happening to me and I seldom disconnect, I'll be sure to come back to this thread and express my views.
