Do you play for fun or to win?
So, I play both killer and survivor and enjoy both equally, but we all know in certain ranks you feel pressurised to run certain builds or play as certain killers (looking at you Billy and Spirit) but do you let that effect the way you play or do you just play as whoever you have the most fun as? For example, I find it easier to win matches as Ghostface at high ranks, as I just find him extremely powerful. But I really love playing as Daddy Myers, Legion, Demilovatogorgon and Amanda, so I often play as them, because even if I don’t get a 4K, I just find their gameplay really rewarding. The reason I was asking this question is because I don’t see much variation of killers when I reach red ranks and it makes me wonder if people are playing as certain killers because they want to or if it’s because they feel like they have to. One thing I love about rank reset is finally getting to verse a variation of killers again. As red rank can become repetitive.
The same can be said for playing as Survivor. I notice that being slugged seems to be the norm now, so you feel like you must have Unbreakable but using the same perks is so boring to me. So I often run other builds like No Mither etc, as I just find the challenge of escaping without meta perks to be more rewarding.
How do you guys play?

I think winning and playing well is fun. Not really mutually exclusive to me. But I think there are more paths to victory with builds and killers than people give the game credit for. I generally don't think weak killers are fun. A killer typically can't be "fun" and weak at the same time to me.

If I'm having fun I'm already winning.

@SenzuDuck Oh wow, I love that response. 💙
@edgarpoop I see what you mean, but I suppose it’s all subjective. I see a lot of people call Amanda weak, but I can 4K as her a lot. But I just find her gameplay really fun, so even if I don’t get any kills, I can still enjoy the match. I just try not to go in with the mindset that I have to win, as that ruins the experience for me and it just becomes too stressful. I like doing a lot of jump scare stuff as I feel like that rewards both me and the survivor. As it’s making me laugh knowing I just scared the life out of somebody and it’s fun for them, as we all love a good jump scare!

Not to start a huge salt war, but it sounds like a lot of the comments on the forums are killer mains who are so furious they aren't getting 4ks for whatever reason. I never cared or wanted a DC penalty - people are still going to DC and now there will just be less people playing. I can play and have fun even if I don't win. It seems to be a different mindset for some killer mains. I used to regularly see the killers let the last person go. It didn't happen a lot, but it happened consistently. Maybe once ever week or two I'd see it. It's probably been at least six months since I last saw it happen. I see comments on here from killer mains who complain that the game is so stressful to them. That doesn't sound like they're having fun.

I play for fun, without a doubt. I play for fun as survivor, and for fun as killer. I play to ensure everyone else has as much fun as I do, too, without making me an easy target to bully. After 1. 5k hours winning really loses its flair, and playing for fun is just so much more appealing.

This pretty much.

I see where you’re coming from with that comment. I’m a fair killer, sometimes I’m too nice, but in a game, I don’t think that should even be an issue. I often let the last survivor go, I only really play savage if the survivor is asking for it. Flicking the flashlight at me constantly, vaulting over and over to get my attention, because during those moments, you wanted my attention, so you can have it and get hooked. But as I play both sides, I can see how frustrating games can be from both angles, so I try to make sure I don’t intentionally ruin somebody’s fun. I’ve had plenty of matches where survivors have pointed at lockers to expose teammates, but I’ll refuse to open the locker and go after the troll instead. At the end of the day, I play this game as I love it and I want to have a good time. I also want the people in my lobbies to have a good time as well, whether my objective is to escape or kill them. This is why I try to stay out of the ‘wars’ – as I just don’t have any interest in them. This has been one of my favourite games to play for 3 years now and I don’t see that changing any time soon.

I play mainly for fun.
I usually just like to chase and hook a bit. Most times I let 1 or more survs go.
Only if a survivor goes too toxic I enable the face camp mode. Had only happen it so far 2-3 times yet. So I still think that people can say, that I am a "friendly" killer :).

I only play for fun, but whenever I feel like it I'll try out certain builds.

Playing to win as killer is near impossible, given the state of matchmaker, you are just going to end up pulling your hair out unless you're on that Tru3/Otz level as killer.
Survivor I play to win and have fun, they go hand in hand. I wish killer was like that, but killer is a lot more stressful and anxiety ridden, there is a reason why some people are legit scared to play as killer even though survivor is a lot of fun for them.

Both. I play both sides. Sometimes I play serious and other times I like to meme. Boop the snoot, basement bubba, catch and release and so on. Sometimes you have to make your own fun when things get too frustrating. Pebble is always fun.
