Killers based on real killers
So what if instead of just movie killers and ones then devs made up. Why not killers based off real life serial killers. Example, the zodiac killer, vald the impaler, Elizabeth Bathory. I can come up with there powers almost instantly. Idk what do you guys think

This is why ^ because real life serial killers were horrific events. I think it would not sit well with a lot of people. I know people make jokes and such about serial killers, but I just think it would be in bad taste to add them as actual killers to the game.

This. It's a similar case as to why Jeepers Creepers isn't coming: The owner of the license is a pedo, and purchasing it would reflect poorly on the Dev team.
The decision to add real killers would be insensitive towards those affected. It would be inhumane.

Are you aware of the fact that Canniable is based off of a real killer? Granted he is from the Texas Chainsaw Massacre, but those movies are based of a real murderer named Ed Gein aka Leatherface

Yes I am aware of this and his character is based (loosely) Ed Gein and I say loosely because Ed gein never ate anybody and killed one person he used to get the skin for his grotesque furniture from freshly buried body's that he helped bury duty the day as he helped out at the local mortuary

I think basing killers on real events might be tolerable, but a 1:1 inclusion is too much, depending ob the case.

Something being loosely based on a killer would be okay. But like, if they straight up added Ted Bundy or something to the game I think it would be problematic. How would you feel if they added one of the mass shooters as a killer from recent years? Personally I would not that that was cool.

You are wrong. Tobe Hooper, the main creator of the TCM movies outright said in an interview that Ed Gein did indeed gives some inspiration for his character, Leatherface.

I'd love Jack the Ripper in DBD. He could be added 100% without a doubt and him ALONE. He was a playable character in games such as AC Syndicate and even Identity V(which dbd devs helped make). People absolutely liked him in both games and the response was from their communities were pretty positive.

The best I can describe it is that a game like Dead by Daylight is glorifying and honoring the characters they are representing in the game.
Dead by Daylight is a celebration of horror, same way that Smash is a celebration of gaming.
If you start adding real serial killers into the mix, then people will most likely not want to support a game that glorifies someone like Ted Bundy.

I think It's a good idea but it has to be an old killer like jack the ripper or the black widow. Also before anyone says anything, other game companies have added historical serial killers to their games. Most popular, Jack the ripper. The man is in Identity V for goodness sake and that's a kid friendly version of DBD!

Jack the Ripper is also more famously described in Fiction. I'm pretty sure most people don't even know of the actual Jack the Ripper. So it's easier for them to digest "oh it's that british murdery fellow from that thing I read" rather than "Oh it's that actual serial killer who did actual bad things."
He is more known as a character in fiction, which is basicalllywhat I'm trying to say.

You can say the same thing about using inspiration as well (i.e. Leatherface). That's your opinion, but the fact is that those games have proven Jack the Ripper can be added 100%. While you may not want him, many others like myself do, he's an English gentleman with a very intimidating and mysterious aura around him. You can't really glorify the actual person behind the Ripper persona because no one figured out who he was. Btw the families of the canonical 5 Ripper victims either don't exist or are unaware that they are related today.

And that's an excuse too profit off the tragedy, because the family didn't know they were related? Sorry, but if Joker was getting backlash from families who lost people at the batman shooting then I highly doubt they would be ok with adding jack the Ripper or Ted Bundy. It's just not ok morally.

So it's okay to profit from real life inspiration that so many horror media creators have used as well? Pretty much just as bad to use inspiration from any real event for your own personal use and profit because it's "disrespectful to the victims." That's what we call double standards and you'll never sell me on that as it's pretty much the same concept.
Anyone other than Jack the Ripper being added would have backlash, yes. But as I said, do me a favor and check how the Assassin's Creed and Identity V communities and consumers were like when JTR was introduced as a playable character. People liked the character and enjoyed playing as him for the most part. The same thing would happen in DBD, my friend.

It would be incredibly disrespectful to the victims and it's just too real. Slasher and horror movies are different to documentaries or movies about real killers. Ethically it's wrong, and Behavior would get in SERIOUS trouble if they even suggested it.

Just because no one gave backlash too JTR doesn't mean it's not super disrespectful mate. That's just a lazy excuse. End of the day it's not ok too put any actual murderers into the game. No one wants Ted Bundy or John Wayne Gacey as killers, JTR is no exception. I'm not replying anymore because if you can't see how horribly disrespectful it is then you're lost lol.

There are living relatives of Ted Bundy and Gacey's victim's, not Jack. You can back out of the argument, just know that JTR can be added.

I've said it before: no.
I'm of the opinion that whilst films based on real life 20th century serial killers are acceptable, I wouldn't feel comfortable controlling a portrayal of a real life killer who murders victims in a computer game.
The main reason: it would be a public relations nightmare for BHVR.

Did you just try to justify murder by saying it's morally okay because they had no children so therefore no family? Children aren't the only thing that means family. Spouses, parents, siblings, even friends can all be family. Also prostitutes are still people.

I know what you mean about the mass shooters but at the same time i think it might bring some good as some countries might change their backward view on gun laws and so on. Maybe they just need a few more shootings tho.

@MysticMusician what I'm saying is that alot of people are saying it would be disrespectful for the living family of his victims. I'm simply stating that his victims were loners. They were prostitutes who had no family or friends that's one of the things that made jack so infamous the only connection was the victims source of income. Not justifying what he did but I am justifying that he should be a killer in dead by daylight. People are to sensitive
