Thoughts/Opinions on The Gunslinger?

I'm officially back on Dead By Daylight and its forums. Hold the applause, thank you, thank you.

Saw some cool gameplay a little earlier in the week from Monto on the Gunslinger. For one: I LOVE THE NEW MAP.

I'm a big Red Dead Redemption fan so it gives me Blackwater vibes. Regarding the Killer, I kinda don't know how to feel about him, from spectating gameplay it seems very easy to get out of his chain especially if you're behind a wall. The new Survivor is lebanese, how cool is that? Honestly happy they didn't add a typical cowgirl. Keep up with the good work in diversity Behaviour 💜 Also, sabo buff? Oof.

I like him a lot. I have no idea if I'll actually be good when playing as him but if I can manage my aim there's going to be a lot of fun to be had.

I'm trying to figure out how to even loop a deadeye outlaw. Even the shack is gonna be risky. If you break away from the loop to throw off his aim he'll catch up but if you do it normally he has a straight shot on you.

    Definitely the thinking mans killer.

At the very least, he should move at 115% movement speed.

Really fun to play even if I miss a lot of my shots. I wish he had some map pressure there is only so much I can do running around with my 110 speed

But he is a gunslinger...so it fits 🤷‍♂️

Also... it's deathslinger, not deadslinger. He isn't a zombie with a slingshot

I think it would've of been much better if they gave him a Lasso ability with a Shotgun power. Wrangle em' in and BOOM, slugs to the face.

He looks cool, but thats it. If you're realistic, he's just a worse huntress.

I played about 10 matches as him in the ptb. i had enough blood points saved up to get him to level 50 right away so i had a decent selection of perks. i got most of his perks to level 3 (Gearhead only go to level 2) and I used those 3 + 1 for all of my games. I tried out some things that give exposed liked Haunted, Devour, and NOED because I thought those would be strong on him specifically, and they're totems so they mesh well with Retribution.

I will say I don't think his power is strong enough to warrant the slower movement speed. The amount of outplay potential is huge, and with the nerfs to early game stall I don't think a Killer has time to play the mind game this much. It's crazy how just breaking the chain yourself with a lunge attack is still stronger than then letting the survivor rip it out themselves in a lot of cases.

The hurtbox on the chain sucks. It feels terrible and there were multiple times I would hear a scream from survivors and they would play an animation of recoiling back but wouldn't get attached to the hook. The devs said themselves that the game wasn't designed for projectile killers and I it really shows on the map geometry. It was just plain frustrating trying to hit t-baging, whippy survivors when you get that horrible slowdown to your aiming when scoping in. I've played a lot of FPS games, and without sounding like a bragging douche i'm pretty confident in my skills to hit something. It's completely unintuitive to not have any gauge in how far you can shoot. The cable doesn't drop down, and if I ever change my terror radius that would take multiple games to get used to, and then i'd eventually have to switch back or only play him under those circumstances.

tl;dr main complaints are being unable to gauge distance at a moments notice, and there not being enough time in a match for mind games and the amount of outplay potential survivors have with the early game nerfs.

Regarding his perks, Gearhead seems like a strong mid to late game information perk that only (efficiently) works for m1 killers, I really liked it and I think i would switch it out for BBQ&Chili on a bunch of killers.

Dead Man's Trigger seemed... underwhelming. Without another perk to help get the obsession switching around to who you're chasing at the time it falls flat in a lot of the instances it was active. From a good survivors point of view, youre not leaving a gen until you have to, and at that point the 80 seconds is somewhere at maybe 70 or 60 if theyre the one going for the save, and if they arent and they later happen to get off a gen the timer is at a very low number, which is when it would often activate for me. I like the idea but at higher levels survivors dont just get off there gens randomly. Super frustrating that it only activated for the most part when there were 10 or less seconds on the timer.

Hex: Retribution seems like a pretty simple perk really, I like that there is now a debuff to doing normal dull totems, and I wish BHVR would give dull totems either a base debuff for doing them or a base debuff that goes away when you do them. It had good synergy with other totems, and as a vengeful type of player (and a cowboy killer) i liked being able to hunt down the person who scorned me.

Overall I think Dead Man's Trigger is the only perk that needs to be tweaked at all. These aren't the perks I wanted with the new killer (at least DMT isn't the slowdown perk you hope it to be) but theyre fun although a bit specific, I think that's a good think. I like when a killer's perk work really well with that killer. You look at someone like Demo and all of his perks are pretty generic.

My idea for DMT is a complete rework:

    • You can kick gens that have no progression. Your last 1 / 1 / 2 kicked gens have 15% more/greater chance of triggering skillchecks (maybe a timer here, like 40 / 50 / 60 seconds), and maybe are louder.

This just came to me as I was writing this so it's not perfect, but I think it would be in lore with our engineer cowboy and a lot more satisfying to use. As it stands DMT is just going to get ignored from me.
