Dedicated servers miss-config continues...

Not the first time I've been hit round a corner and yes yes I understand the Huntress hits my lag shadow but then why does gameplay go through dedicated servers and not direct to the Huntress PS4?

I do not play on console, but I heard that the connection there is much worse than on PC. Also your connection is effected by your currently used internet method if I put say this right. Just keep in mind that the best result you can get by using ethernet cabel.

I use a wired LAN as WIFI isn't as fast, this doesn't change the fact that my gameplay has to go across the world and back to the Huntress's PS4

Because survivor-mains cried about peer-to-peer, and demanded dedicated servers, not knowing what consequences this will bring. Not knowing that putting a 3rd party between the players will INCREASE the interaction latency not decrease it.

The gameplay should always go computer to computer but like GTA report back to dedicated servers.

At the moment EVERYTHING goes through dedicated servers which is poor configuration but I'd guess much easier to change the host to a server rather than change the code to report to the server and direct game play straight to the players computer. None of this was talked about in the recent BHVR hit box/capsule video even though posted as a question... kind of a big thing as to why hits as shown in the video actually happen

Dedicated servers are needed, they just aren't needed for game play

Jumping out if lockers especially with head-on is another I have noticed

I quick jump here and get grabbed? Again the killer is grabbing my shadow due to latency but the latency shouldn't be going across the world and back and vice versa when the doctor is probably house calling in the same country

Huntress is pretty busted on dedicated servers. Hatchets are now dodged completely on faith, since dedicated servers don't care if you actually dodged them or not.

Let's be honest, dedicated seemed gucci, but at the end of the day, it's worse than it was. Pretty much getting good host (killer) as survivor was better, than playing on dedicateds nowadays. Sure dedicateds and host have different benefits. For example: On dedicateds killers in unable to lag switch and also you wont be effected by killers bad connection. Correct me, if I have written anything wrong lads.

Dedicated servers are needed for monitoring stats, cheating, etc

P2P as used before can handle movement and reduces lag

Easy to say but this isn't what we have

Is there a way to connect both dedicated servers and P2P connection? Like, some form of synthesis to get the best out of both?

Because, it sometimes seems to me that dedicated servers really helped maintaining a somewhat consistent connection, but then again there are those games where there's apparently something wrong, getting ridiculous hits for example. But then again, lag switching or looking for new lobbies to get an acceptable ping aren't really a thing anymore, are they?

But that wasn't the main reason imo. The main reason why dedicated servers were still introduced although nobody believed to that anymore was the Switch. On Switch there is no P2P possible so they had to do it for profit reasons, another platform means more moneyz.

I want dedicated not because of "muh latency", I want crossplay.

Exactly why it was added cause of the switch. And devs thought they could get a 2-in-1 and also add it for every other platform and failed miserably

I also believe the devs only decided to optimize the game (mostly for xbox1 & ps4) was because of the switch once again.

As the game before 2018 December Legion update would never have ran or been playable on the switch it was horrific.

Both crossplay and switch would be good ideas for dedicated servers.

Crossplay could be achieved within the computer/console with an overhead

Switch would need dedicated servers so why not put that overhead onto the servers.

We now have excellent lobbies where of the killer leaves the survivors don't have to queue again

Better stats are recorded through the servers

Exploits/cheating/DCs are monitored even better through servers

Gameplay is the only exception as it has deteriorated. Sure we get a good colour ping but that is to the server, for all we know the killer or survivors could have a terrible ping.

With the exception of the Switch, gameplay shouldn't be slowed down having to go through a dedicated server whether like for me it is across the other side of the world or next door.

I had 3 grab animations just cancel out yesterday in 1 game. Not even a hit registered. Start grab...then boom survivor runs away.

    It goes both ways.

Yep, although BHVRs stream leads us to believe the final decision is on the killers side for hitting survivors yet I have grabbed people off gens to suddenly find them running away which is wrong and bloody confusing. Also I've gone through survivors as Billy but didn't make contact... Gameplay through dedicated servers!

If the devs would have moved hit detection to the servers, as I presume everyone who wanted dedicated servers assumed they would, we wouldn't really have issues right now. But the fact that hit detection is still done ON THE KILLER'S MACHINE means that all dedicated servers have done is increase latency. P2P was much better.

Also, devs, why can't we see the killer's ping? That's a very important metric when hit detection is done there. If we see 50ms ping and the killer has a ping of 300, we have no way to know that but still suffer the effects of the 350ms round trip.

Having hit detection clientside is pretty standard in games nowadays. Its to prevent people from being forced to lead hits/shots according to latency.

We knew it would increase latency.

We also knew of quite a few issues p2p had that dedicated solved.

Were also not all "survivor mains" that wanted it.

    I'm 60/40.

Stats can be send to a server at any time, just like shop data, you dont need it in a game.

Also, monitoring CHEATING? Im afraid we dont have such thing.

Both p2p and servers have pros and cons, I think we should start by fixing hitboxes and removing aim dressimg, then we can see just much bullshit hits is REALLY caused by lags.

All of this can be improved upon but what is frustrating me is core issues such as map size/quick gen times or survivor tasks/unfair balance that SWFC/SWF survivors have over solo survivors. Perhaps something else will be talked about in the next stream just involving BHVR employees and hand picked questions.
