Camping Accusations
I'm sure we've all been there. A team of overly altruistic survivors is forcing you to stay near the hook. And at the end of the game... They call you a camper. Despite the fact that you point out their altruistic behaviour they still believe it's just camping. That you're a bad killer.
I've received so much harassment from groups like these. Hell, allow me to give you one of the many exchanges I've had on PlayStation 4.
"Chili BBQ and campe?"
"You didn't give me much choice."
"You campe because you're bad that all ^^"
"No. I 'camped' because you guys wouldn't go away from the hook."
Side not, I then followed this up with "But hey. If I'm bad you're worse, since I killed you Keep crying bb ". Because it gets tiring hearing the same old accusations.
So, Survivors, what's your thought process when a killer is staying by your hook? Do you assume they're camping and do you then proceed to go out of your way to message the Killer?
And Killers, how many of you are actually guilty of 'camping' for no reason? And how many of you face these sorts of messages every time you play?
At this point, it's very discouraging. I was having a lot of fun prior to this. But when you see someone accuse you of these things, insult you and belittle you... It disheartens you. Of all player groups in this game, Survivors are slowly becoming my least favourite.

I get accused of camping or "tunneling" (AKA "chasing") almost every trial I play. One in particular had MYC trigger no less than 5 times, and another one had all three Survivors visibly near the hook.

I get it once in a while as a killer. Usually get the comments when I actually don't camp which I find funny. Best advice, just ignore and go to the next match.0

The killer is camping. I'll wave my arms and pray my teammates do gens so my 2 minutes of no-fun don't go to waste. I don't message the killer because that's dumb and childish. If the killer camped me from 100 to 0 on the first gen with BBQC, then sure, I might leave a snide remark in end-game chat if I care to stay.
And Killers, how many of you are actually guilty of 'camping' for no reason? And how many of you face these sorts of messages every time you play?
Always guilty. I report the messages and move on. If the devs intend on encouraging killers to camp, I will continue to camp.

People harassing you is not an intended part of the game. You should just report them and continue to play the way you want to play.

If you weren't so concerned with your image in a video game that won't exist in a couple years, you would've probably just laughed it off and shared another salty survivor story. Maybe camping isn't a problem?

I play both, and Survivors are definitely more toxic.

Personally. It's not proving good for my mental health. My anxiety's already kicked back in and I now join Dwight in the bite-your-nails-because club.

Camping is when the killer stays on the same map after a hook.
Just take the salt as fuel for your next match and make sure to get even more survivors than last time

Fair point. But given this is a multiplayer based game negative interactions from other players may as well come with the welcoming package. And besides, I can't report those on console unless it's against Sony's Code of Conduct.

Ah, sorry to hear. I know the devs can't ban people on consoles... I think, so it's kinda hard either way.
I guess you can block PMs from non-friends. That's what I do on other games anyway.

But if I get all four then how will I be able to get eight in the next match?
There's a rare species of gamer who are mentally ill. Like me. I have highly functioning autism and depression, along with a severe case of anxiety and panic attacks. With a mind as mentally fragile as mine and likely a few other players akin to me I'm better off going into a game like Bloodborne, where I can feel like I have worth by helping people, instead of being insulted all of the time.

I used to never camp, and I still don't regularly do it, but it has nothing to do with feeling bad. I just don't have to do it all the time. But make no mistake, for any and all reasons I reserve the right to camp because I will camp you for no reason if it's just a camp day. Most powerful thing all killers except Freddy have, TBVH0 -

Blocking private messages from non-friends would then prevent genuinely kinder people from messaging me or asking me for tips/help with something. That's one price you have to pay for peace of mind though...

I apologise if it came off as me referring to it as a problem. I've been playing Killer ever since I bought the game sometime following Christmas, prior to the introduction of the Pig. At low ranks, therefore in the beginning, I never heard one single complaint. Survivors focused on gens, I was able to leave the hook, all's well. But then as I started to get stuck above Rank 9 I started to get complaints, coincidentally alongside the increase of altruistic teams. It makes me laugh whenever someone messages me with a threat of being banned, to which I have to remind them that camping isn't a bannable offence.

I'm sorry. Sometimes I get ahead of myself and let my anger take the driver seat, even when it's no where near called for. It's been happening a lot recently, a little over a year actually. Coincedentally not long before I bought the game myself, although I'm sure this game doesn't help with it.
Anyway, I agree that over the course of this year, this game has seemed to change greatly. When I was playing on console last year, ranks didn't even save, and everyone was... Not taking things as far as they do now. Games were also a bit easier going, not many were taking the games seriously and I made most of my psn friends that I currently talk to on this game. But as that glitch was fixed, more people like me became aware of the forums and the overall meta of this game, and "sides" started to form, it seems to have led to a toxic air that was absent before. Well, qq right?0 -

I have no idea what qq means. But regardless, the game has indeed changed. Though it's hard to give it up... It is a fun game when all goes well. But when it doesn't it can be incredibly messy especially when the devisive nature of the game separates the opinions and voices into two armies. Though I'd rather hear adults arguing over Dead By Daylight than the screeching of children on Fortnite... Even if some of the adults in the DBD community act more immature than children sometimes.

Well you can always leave the game after the game is over and not read post match. Players will talk ######### whenever they can about how you play, so the best thing is just to move on and if you do think you made bad plays during that game just learn from them and don't let people get under your skin.

I believe qq=crying?
And yea, I still play this game so it doesn't take anything away from me. I'm on hiatus now because I don't have ps+, but that's about it.
When it comes to the arguments and disscusions on here, I get just as caught up as anybody, and I suspect you may too. It just feels like all discussions on here eventually break down into that, because if we discuss, for instance, something about the hatch stand off situation, saying it needs changes, inevitably someone who prefers survival role will say "you just want easy 4k" and the cycle of toxic mudslinging and unheeded points behind anew.
It may be sad that I take comfort in the fact that of all the toxicity I've contributed, I don't FEEL that bad because I know there are people here who are either way more toxic, or who are older and at least just as toxic. makes me feel like I haven't reached the end of that rope yet at least0 -

In theory, I do agree with you. Ignore the comments, let people talk ######### and move on. Sadly, not every person has that layer of thick skin and they do take the words of others to heart, even if it is via a game.

Yeah true, not everyone is the same and we are all different people who come from different backgrounds so words can hurt. The only thing we can give others is our advice and another piece of advice from me is at least they aren't physically there

Players will talk ######### whenever they can about how you play, so the best thing is just to move on and if you do think you made bad plays during that game just learn from them and don't let people get under your skin.Well, if there was a post match chat to avoid, I am sure the OP would. Jammy is a console gamer. There is no post match. They are sending DMs to Jammy. The only way to avoid it would be turning off messaging from anyone not in your friends list.
My bad, it was a tip for PC players reading it too, but yeah I understand it more and should have read it clearer
The only thing we can give others is our advice and another piece of advice from me is at least they aren't physically there
I think honestly the fact that nearly all have said, do not let their ######### bother you, move on and play your way is probably the best advice that can be given in this situation.
I do apologize if I came off as rude with my initial response to you.

As a rank 1 Freddy main I run Remember Me. You can probably see where this is going; I find out who my obsession is and I go find them. I keep chasing this survivor while sleeping others along the way but the obsession is my main goal. I get a lot of survivors cry at me for killing them off first but hey, it is literally a strategy and that is my choice. I need that survivor dead so that I can be even stronger at the end, I always make sure my obsession is fully dead otherwise they will open the door wasting my time and a perk slot.
One thing I do not understand is that these people have the audacity to call me a tunneler when they are running perks like DS. By using this perk you are consciously putting yourself in the line of fire for any killer running obsession related perks with a few exceptions like 'save the best for last' for example. How you can be salty that your strategy plays into mine isn't my problem.
Aside from perk oriented decisions, you can tunnel who you want to, you're the killer at the end of the day they will just have to suck it up. If I hook someone and I happen to be nearby at the time; guess what? I am going to go for the weaker person because they are one hit and already a step closer to death. The only time this doesn't happen is if that person is long gone and I think I can get the rescuer.
Bottom line is it is your job to kill them all as a killer, you can do that however you want. I know, survivors will cry about it because they may not like how you are playing, if you hook camp, tunnel ect. That doesn't matter what they think, if that is your thing then do it.
I don't just play killer, I have played many a survivor match and if I told you I never got salty I would be lying. Whilst it only happens in rare cases of continuous camping or tunneling game after game I still understand that this is the killers playstyle and it is to be respected. Sure it feels bad being killed first but some strategies that you do not like the killer using may open opportunities for your remaining survivors.
At the end of the day lads, they are just pixels, don't be toxic towards killers for how they chose to play. Unless the killer is clearly cheating or farming or anything like that, that just isn't ok.

Even if you were camping so what?

If you're camping and it bothers them so much, they can equip BT. They don't because it doesn't directly benefit themselves. You're objective is to kill, if they cry about it then oh well.

When a Killer camps me while I’m on the hook, yes, I proceed to go out my way and message them hate mail because it makes me angry when they camp for no reason.
Especially, when they waste their time and patrol the hook until I go into stage 2 when it’s obvious as hell that no one is nearby waiting to go in for the save.
You did nothing wrong. Being too altruistic can get you killed, anyone that has any slight experience in playing this game knows that.1 -

I know a guy who once camped, he's now in a max security prison counting every minute until his eventual release into society. Lock him up and throw away the key I say.0

Are you a freddy on PS4? I think I played against you, your strategy is very familiar. If so, you're awesome with him.
Haha no I play on Xbox One.

Honestly if you camp me....WE ARE NOW DATING!! LOOK INTO MY EYES WHILE YOU CAMP ME!!! LOL
I honestly don't care. All killers have their play style, I just drag out that camp as long as possible to give the rest of my teammates, if you know they actually pay attention, time to get gens done. I don't understand why people make such a big deal over it. Yeah it sucks if you're the survivor but it's just a freakin game. Get over it, move on to the next match.

I've said it before and I shall say it again, as a survivor there is nothing more depressing than seeing eager points monkeys swarming towards a hook when the killer is still standing there. The word 'Altruism' is truly a joke half the time, and quite honestly in 60% of my games i end up feeling ashamed of my team or outright sending an apology to the killer for their incredibly crappy attitudes.
I'm not a fan of outright camping for no other reason than it guarantees a kill, but I'm not going to blast off on a killer because of it, because in most cases camping is fed by the survivors themselves, whether from being a bit stupid or plain greedy. The best i can do is take my lumps and hope the rest of my team take the hint when i wave my arms in the air to say 'go do something useful rather than farm me for points.
I'm sorry that you have to put up with the crappy messages, if it makes you feel any better, i get my own share when i refuse to go racing towards a clearly camped hook, i genuinely am altruistic when it makes sense, but if i know someones being camped, they are going to swing, just as i would expect to if it were me up there.

The secret to handling toxic behavior is to just ignore it. If players are going out of their way to ruin your day by making you feel bad then either ignore them or embrace them. If your misery is their objective, then deny them the satisfaction of success. If everyone did this, they might just quit if the universal reactions to toxicity are "eh, whatever."0

I don't mind camping at all when playing as survivor. I just hope that the others will realize what's happening and go do the gens. I won't try to unhook myself to kill myself faster and find a new game. I'd rather stay on the hook for as long as possible in order to punish the killer. The only time I'll camp is when I got 2 survivors hooked next to each other and the gates are open. But in general camping is just boring.

When it comes to camping, my thought process is simply "Who cares"
If a killer does it to me, I'm more upset the other drones on the team aren't doing gens.
If a survivor gets mad at me because I choose to do it for various reason, I yawn in boredom.
Scrubs are gonna scrub, haters are gonna hate.
No sense getting my blood pressure up about it.

This is the approach I'll be trying to take. I'm going to play to have fun and not go by any sort of honour codes like respecting the 4%. I play stealthily and selfishly as survivor (although admittedly if I had a 5th perk slot I'd equip Botany Knowledge or Auto-Diadect because I like healing people) and I won't avoid being able to use someone else to escape or possibly earn the killer's favour by dropping an item or helping the killer. My objective is to survive and have fun.
Respect to you, sir, for your lack of caring about it. May the good blood guide your- wait, wrong game. But good luck to you. And your future endeavours.
