Am I a smurf/depipper or just chill?

So quick background I'm a rank 1-2 survivor and I used to be barely red rank killer, hovered between 4-6 when I played mostly killer, I was competitive at red rank only if I played spirit or Ghostface to be honest.

Nowadays I enjoy survivor more, but I like the bloodpoints from killer plus evening I get instant games so I enjoy that when I don’t have a lot of time to play.

I play almost all killers, weird builds, usually avoid any OP addons like Iri huntress and “unfun,” builds like even nerfed Forever Freddy. But I always let one person have hatch if I do well and if someone kills themselves immediate or DCs I just try to get my BBQ stacks and then relax on the survivors even farming if they want. As a result I’m around rank 10-12 now and I feel that I’m drastically better than the survivors I play except for those games against all red ranks.

Fo you think it’s unfair, am I ruining anyone’s games, should I “try hard,” and get back into purple and red ranks? As a survivor would you enjoy a game like I described or feel like I cheated you?

i do it on killers too (mainly on wraith) with farm build: beast of prey, distressing, thrill, bbq

8 hook games without single kill (well maybe sometimes i will kill some piece of bastard that run infinite window or is using OoO) but aside from that i usually dont kill survs and im hanging around R10

slow games where i play as fair as possible, its so fun for me (and i doubt survs feel bad about not being tunneled/camped or playing vs wraith almost without perks)

Yeah, I know when I play survivor I don’t like to “farm,” but if a killer two hooked everyone then let us leave I’d be thrilled. I generally try to 2-hook people although sometimes I miscount especially if there are twins or I don’t notice they let someone go to second stage on first hook.

im not farming after 8 hooks im just alt tabbing (to wait for survs to do last gens), and 3 perks (BoP,Dis,thrill) are keeping my bp maxed out even tho at some point im not getting more bp

I can at least say that I would not want a game where the Killer is at a much lower rank than they should be. I also wouldn't want a game where it turned out the Killer never had any intention of actually trying to sacrifice/kill anyone.

I would choose that you're "just chill". It sounds like a fun game to me, where the killer isn't going so hard on me. No, I wouldn't feel cheated. :)

For example, when I go against the iri huntress. I immediately start thinking, please just kill me now, so I can move on to a more fun game.

As a killer I hate games where the survivors throw due to negligence or stupidity.

Same with survivor but its ten times worse to me due to the wait times. That said i dont think theres anything wrong with playing a bit more relaxed as long as youre still trying and not just sandbagging the game.

Shouldn't flat out throw a game. Game is unfun as survivor if the killer puts no effort. Though tryhards make games exercises in futility. You can bet that DS went back on my fun build after a killer tunnels me to death knowing I can't do anything back.

Though killer is already stressful enough so simply playing how you like feels so much better than try harding every match. So if it feels good, then do it. Gens pop and I don't care, I can still pull a 3k if I play it cool. If it's 4k I usually let the last one go. 1k I drop them at the gates if they weren't already sacrificed. No point in taking only scraps. Farming or screwing around you can be guaranteed to escape. But try not to make it obvious.

It doesn't matter what rank you are. All killers face red rank survivors anyway, so you can't smurf even if you want.

i guess different ppl have different opinions on that matter but tbh when i see so much sweat coming from killers sometimes that makes me want to play killer in most chill way possible

i guess its going from 1 side (hard tunnel, camp, best add ons, slowdown) into other side (no add ons without "optimal"(BS) gameplay) but i guess i always loved that other side

btw because of matchmaker problems i get both full green or full red rank lobbies, and do you know how in game i differentiate those 2 lobbies? red ranks jumps infinite windows like monkeys and will jump into lockers with DS, and pretty much aside from those 2 things both lobbies are equal (because most red rank survs without BS windows are trashes)

I mean, I am currently a low-rank baby Survivor, but I want to get better. Can't really do that if the Killer isn't really trying to win, but I also can't do that if the Killer is so much stronger that I'm not learning anything.

I'd rather that than a game where someone feels forced to play a specific way, doesnt enjoy it, and quits outright.

I want a game where I feel I have to try my best to win.

Then keep playing, and eventually you'll get out of rank 12, where this killer is. 🤷‍♀️

I dont see the problem. One wants to be chill and one wants to try their hardest. The "ranking" system is there to sort that out.

The problem is when people who are well out of my skill range show up either because matchmaking is trash or because of deranking/boosting. I don't really learn much when I face off against people who can annihilate me or people or are absolute potatoes.

I do get what you mean TAG, I think, but if you got matched against me you would get some good practice in. I go "hard," for the opening of the game it's just once I have my two hooks per person I slack off because I also play survivor and I know those 5k escape points are a big deal especially if you're newer. This goes even more when I bring BPS or during double events, or both because that's 15k extra points I just let everyone have and I'm okay with that because I am mostly maxed.

See, the thing is that a Killer who "should" be several ranks higher than me going super hard and then going super chill still isn't really giving me much to go on. I don't learn during the super hard portion because I am being thrown in the too-deep end, and then I don't learn during the chill portion because I am then being catapulted back into the too-shallow end. No real opportunity to swim at the level I'm at so I can make my way toward the deep end at a steady rate.

Nothing wrong with being chill and just having fun with the game instead of being sweaty tryhard who comes and complains about not getting a 4k every game like a lot of them are.

All that matters is that you enjoy yourself.

i get your goal but current rank system doesnt support it in proper way (i know every game should support ppl that are trying to learn new role but dbd isnt) best example when im playing killer i meet more good survivors on green/purple ranks than in red ranks (as my teammates from soloQ or my "opponents" when im killer) same goes with killers, most red ranks killers are sweaty tryhards that are running every slowdown possible and almost everyone can tell they are worse than killers that are playing without slowdown and still have same results(but for example because of gatekeeper or chaser they cant pip)

but enough of trash talking rank system, what do you want to learn on surv?

    a) playing vs good killer

    b) playing vs potato killer (difference in chase is gigantic but most killers are bad but are using strong perk/add on to hide that)

    c) just how to be good surv overall.

in a case meeting me is good for you, you will get 2-4 chases most of the time (because i like spreading dmg)

in b case well about 95% of killers will show you the way

in c case use bond and watch other survs (but not those that are selfcaring in corner)

I mean, yeah, current rank system sucks and does not help with that. But neither does what OP is doing.

And a combination of A and C for me. More C at the moment because I am currently NOT a good Survivor and am not really ready to square off against good Killers.

See I disagree, I think playing against me would be beneficial. I mean if it’s not your thing i understand but hear me out...

I don’t camp or tunnel so you’re getting 2-3 chases a game unless your team finishes and escapes before. and I’m an okay/good killer chasing but nowhere near as good as a lot of people I see or go against at red ranks.

So you get good experience, learn what works and doesn’t looping, and you get a pretty fair amount of BP
