Why are survivor sided maps so much more prevelant in the map pool than killer sided ones?

Id say there are probably six maps right now that fall in the camp of completely one sided. Obviously the game and Hawkens are way killer sided. For survivors its mostly Haddonfield the asylum mothers den and the temple, that being said I get that there are twice as many survivor maps as killer maps. But in the good 15 hours I played this weekend (both killer and survivor) I never got Hawkens and I only got the game the last trial I did. Excluding offerings I still got Haddonfield 3 times mothers den 5 or 6 times I got the asylum another 7 times and I got the temple 6 times this means that in my game time I got 1 killer sided map and 21 survivor sided maps. Ive also noticed a lack of offerings for the game and next to no offerings for Hawkens

Well, The Game feels terrible for a lot of games, and I find that as both Killer AND Survivor, so people just tend to avoid it. Hawkins is alright. I don't love it, I don't hate it. Same with Lery's.

Somehow the Asylum feels alright, but not like there's enough cover for me as someone who prefers more of a stealth approach.

Haddonfield just feels dumb. With all the alleyways and fences it's too open for a Killer, but small for a Survivor trying to dodge attacks and detection, but also has the killer disadvantages of an indoor map, without the benefits.

Nobody likes the Swamp, but they are a bit more balanced, and I just wish that there was more in the middle than knee-high crates. Majority the trees and whatnot are limited to the outer 25% of the maps there.

Bedham is actually ok for the most part.

MacMillian and Autohaven just depends on the variant. The lengthy Autohaven does feel way more Killer sided, as you can basically section off half the map and make the dreaded 3-Gen happen very easily.

Corn maps are fine for either side, but Killer dependent. I've had a lot of free hits because I'm a Dash-Pig in corn who randomly bumped into a Survivor.

Red Forest are quite Survivor sided, though. They are actually really large and you can hold a Killer at a jungle gym for quite a while. Similar story with Ormond, but it's harder to hide with normal dark clothing. And the centre building is larger, so less outer space.

I haven't the faintest about Deathslinger's map, though, as console players don't get a PTB.

I think you have to consider the state of this game when it first came out, which was heavily survivor sided. There was some bs stuff killers could pull off, like trapper putting his trap underneath a hooked survivor or only being able to unhook a survivor from the front. But the infinites, no bloodlust, fast vault from any angle, instablind, saboing all the hooks/trappers traps, no exhaustion while running. So If you take that into account it would be understandable why there are fewer killer sided maps.

Coal tower is Killer sided dafuq? Well guess I am just bad if all 4 survivors keep running to the god loop :/

I would say that Azerov's Resting Place is a Killer sided map aswell, it has very few pallets and it is very easy to 3 gen survivors there.

Azarov’s is quite literally the most killer sided map in the game. All you have to do is hook a survivor and stay on that side of the map and force all survivors to come to the chokepoint. Getting a 3 gen is so easy on that map. It’s weak as hell for survivor.

Coal Tower is the most balanced map in the game. The main structure is strong but not absurdly powerful. Your average jungle gyms/T-walls and some dead zones. Best part is that it is SMALL and all killers can reach their fullest potential without being dragged down by a gigantic map.

3 genning is easy yes, but you still have to hook people.

You still have to chase, and end chases extremely fast.

While the larger maps are a problem, it's the main building on most maps that are the strongest. Look at coal tower, a small map but that building has a really strong loop that can't be stopped same with most of McMillan maps , I assume the breakable walls will fix this on a good chunk of maps.

Azarov , sanctum of wrath and suffocation can both be killer and survivor sided if the killer doesn't get a 3 gen they can lose easy. But with the lack of strong loops and only a few pallets I'm happy with these maps as a killer.

RNG is not favoring anything. You selected a super tiny sample where you got an unprecise representation. Make a table of your last 1000 hours and you will get a proper result

The biggest balance issue in the game right now, and the devs seem to not care or be unaware of how frustrating the awful maps are to play on.

Then again, it isn't very surprising. They reworked the preschool map, which was awful, into 5 not-as-bad but still pretty bad versions of that map, and called it a map rework. Their latest map is an equally terrible version of Yamaoka. I have no faith in their map team. While I do enjoy looking at the maps, balance seems to be the last thing considered when making maps.

Ever tried facing 4 good survivors on Ormond? The devs obviously haven't.

After Deathslinger comes out their next update should only be fixing all the unbalanced maps and the numerous bugs that keep popping up. Yes, sure, I'm aware there are different teams working on different things, but it seems the map team needs some desperate help.

I do actually I’m rank 1 killer rank 7 survivor at the moment

Then don't talk about rng or stats if you just have a bad day once. That is no rng issue you describe there

    They're all survivor sided.

Here's a fun question: How many maps are actually reasonably balanced between both sides?

It was a bad weekend at best but it’s really more just a discussion I wanted to bring up about a general trend I noticed

Well, you argued with RNG, so the answer to this is simply, it isn't. Just going by your title I would say, they aren't the best in balancing maps. So they need to wait for feedback and then start reworking maps, what is currently happening, although very slow

haven't heard much about the Yamaoka Estate in here, anybody care to talk about that? I actually kind of like the Residence as a killer so I'd like to see what other people think of it

All you have to do is chase one person and hook them and ensure they die. Who cares if they fix gens on the opposite side of the map? Secure your side of the map and make the survivors come to you because they’ll be FORCED to since all the gens are on that side and their teammates is hooked on that side.

I hooked one survivor on my side of the map and downed another working on a gen on my side. The other two were forced to come to me and cross the chokepoint. They all got slugged. I was playing Pig. That map is just too easy to make survivor’s rounds hell :/

They have to cross the chokepoint in the middle and you can easily deter them away from the save just by standing in one place and making sure they don’t cross.

If the killer is competent and plays like a douche, you can’t win on Azarov’s as survivor.

Suffocation Pit is a lot stronger than Azarov’s because the middle is quite a bit stronger and it has a very good main structure that can spawn an extremely good window.

Sanctum of Wrath I hate just because it’s way too dark and all survivors are immersed and my matches are boring.

Because maps can be designed with certain things in mind. Survivors are the biggest part of the playerbase, and potentially the biggest cash cow for them.

  • NullEXE
    NullEXE Member Posts: 1,632

It's because there are more survivor sided maps than Killer. Killer has like. What? Two maps that are even barely in their favor, and that's because Survivors refuse to learn them.

Most of the maps are rather outdated I think. Its from a time where they were still trying to figure out how to balance out the game. And they just... never did.

By the time we figured out it was mostly the map design that bogged the matches down for Killers, it was years in and nothing could really be done about it. At least not quickly. They're reworking things bit by bit, hopefully we will eventually get to the point where maps are balanced and not absurdly large anymore.

Never faced my stealth nurse on lerys huh?

On topic: There are way too many survivor favored maps in the game, i agree.

IMO I think the more important question indicative of the larger issue would be "Why are there survivor-sided or killer-sided maps at all?"
