Does "Reporting" actually do anything?

Whenever I've reported a cheater I always get the standard reply "We are looking into it, etc" and nothing ever seems to happen. Sure hackers seem to get banned every now and then (which is great) but does reporting actually do anything? Or is it just supposed to be a placebo effect?

In the pic attached, the killer (who worked with a survivor to find me by using the sluggeds ability to see auras) says they have been reported "100's of times" and "I'm still here". They know they can cheat and nothing will ever happen. How is this despicable behavior allowed?

I've reported this in game and via the website but does it do anything? A lot of cheaters dont seem to think so. Does anyone know of a person that was banned for actually cheating? Or is "unsportsmanlike" behavior the main thing that will get you banned now?

@not_Queen @Peanits I'm genuinely curious - what actually happens with the reports? I know youre bogged down with reports of "camping" and the like but surely SOMETHING can and has to be done? Balancing means nothing when you have to play against the killer AND survivors...

Okay so here is the thing, I know for a fact two things.

One: Passive aggressive insults are almost never ever punished, so most people that want to be toxic know that as long as they do that they will never ever be punished while still tilting the other people- which is exactly what they want so that is what they will do most often.

Two: Reporting DOES work if they are saying actual slurs, or spouting obscenities as insults and things that are much more clear. Thing is it takes a LOT of reports, or someone to get so upset they make a ticket about it and provide all the requested info showing it all in action.

Three: A lot of people, like I know who that streamer that Scott Jund made a video about; actively don't say toxic things in game where they can be banned. They comment on people's profile, shoot off on their stream, or even go as far as to their other social media if they can get that info so I suggest making all that as private as possible so they can't. The only comments they make will be the passive ones in game like I mentioned in my first point, but all the slurs and such will be on steam because they know BHVR will not act on things from other platforms.

Trolls are not stupid, they know what they can get away with and what they cannot. They push the limits and if they ever do get banned it's just for like a day and they know to dial it in just enough to avoid another one, but still try and make other people feel bad.

Reports are definitely more than just a placebo. However, the team generally don't ban someone for something as serious as cheating or hacking without evidence, no matter how many reports they get. So it's unlikely that someone will be banned for cheating unless you first submit a post-game report in the scoring screen, as you did, and secondly send video evidence of their wrongdoing to Support via an "Additional player report information" ticket.

Sorry if I was unclear: I do not really care about insults/name calling/obscenities or any childish behaviour like that.

The issue I have is that he was cheating. Admits to cheating. And acknowledges that he has cheated in the past. Has been reported/recorded "100's of times" and nothing seems to happen...

Haha no you were totally clear I just didn't read I'm sorry. I saw a post with a chat log and the title and just assumed, that is my mistake entirely.

Reports do matter. The ACMs (Associate Community Managers) handle in-game bans, and they can't do their job effectively without reports. Keep in mind that some reports are not acted upon for any number of reasons - it could be a report that is not a bannable offense, or a troll report, or any number of things. When all reports are taken seriously, it takes time for a person to process it (we're not robots here on the forums, they're definitely not robots either!)

As far as people saying they've not been banned despite being reported - that's what they want you to believe. They want you to think they don't get banned, that reports don't matter, so you don't report people in the future.

Keep reporting people that break the game rules!

Disclaimer: I have no involvement with in-game bans, and do not know how their process works.

No... reporting does absolutely nothing 🤔 This was someone I reported yesterday for what it's worth, the ACMs do a fantastic job, and this is just one of many people I have reported who have been punished with perm bans.

I only report fellow survivors when they DC after 1 hook or down. Other than that, can't blame the next guy in the game that rages and lets the killer get them. It'll be a lost game but someone started the chain of hate. On the flipside, Its good to be a killer in that situation I suppose.

Just play till you die, right?

I won't report without video evidence anymore, thanks for clarifying on what should be done. I also gives props to the others that play thru the game with me when that occurs ... lol been making friends that way

There's also the issue of so many people filing reports for things that are not reportable. I've been reported for using noed when the devs came out and said there is nothing wrong with doing that cause it's a perk in the game. I've had people accuse me of wall hack on nurse when I was finding them with BBQ. I had a killer claim I was lag switching when I was running to the exit gate. It was actually the very rare, well timed Dead Hard.

Are we talking about actually contacting support or using that little menu right next the the props button? Because that menu feels more like a rep report.

Clicking Trolling or Unsportsmanlike is more like pressing a "You're a #########" button.

I can confirm that yes, they do indeed work. Both the in-game reports and the support tickets for attaching videos to your reports are used.

I used to be one of the guys that went through reports before starting full time as a CM. There's a team of people dedicated solely to going through reports. You may not see them get banned, but that's because most things start off with temporary bans that don't show on their profile - barring cheating or things like real life threats.

@MandyTalk I want to see an reports for "boosting" in-game. Too many low skilled red rank teammates who play like yellow ones.

How about adding a reward system for proper reports like Legue of Legends has? That way people know it's actually working.

    This!

    That. Would. Be. Awesome!

Not long ago, I had a guy who told me to "go ######### die irl" and I wonder what happened to him. Naturally, I reported him.
