Is there a way to find out who the killer is before meeting them in game?
Title.
I always have a hard time predicting who the killer is in starting matches since there are no indications.
The doctor and a few others provide little clues but some are very hard to figure out...

Well, anyone with unique chase music (Doctor, Deathslinger, Demogorgon, Oni) you can identify as soon as you're in their terror radius. So if you hear a terror radius with normal music, you can immediately rule out those four, and probably all or at least most of the stealth killers as well.
Some killers spawn objects in the environment that you can identify them by (Pig's boxes, Plague's fountains, Trapper's traps, Freddy's alarm clocks).
Hillbilly (chainsaw), Demogorgon (portals) and Nurse (blinking) typically make unique sounds towards the start of the match - Hillbilly is slightly harder to identify as distinct from Bubba, but still very much possible.
Many killers you can identify by sounds that are usually heard when they first enter a chase, especially if they're nearby (Wraith's bell/uncloaking sound, Huntress' hatchet wind-up, Spirit's phasing, Michael's tier II jingle, Clown's bottles or Doctor's Shock Therapy causing other survivors to scream).
Freddy, Legion and Plague (Freddy in particular, since he's identifiable from the very start of the match) can be identified by watching the survivors' status icons.
If you get a minute or so in and don't hear a terror radius, it's probably a stealth killer.
Those are the techniques I normally use to narrow down who the killer is. Pretty much the only killers that are just about impossible to identify before seeing them are Hag and Ghostface. If you have any questions about any of them, feel free to ask 😊

Nope!
Some have hints (like a clock on your team with Freddy and his Dreamworld power) but for the most part, you don't know the killer until he/she makes a noise (like Michael's music or Billy's chainsaw revving) or you see who is trying to murder you.

Yes there is one way. While the match loads there will be tips under the loading bar. Sometimes there will be a tip on going against a certain killer. Whatever killer is named there is the killer you’re going to be against. Everyone usually has different tips so yours might not say a killer but your other survivors will. It’s random.

Are you sure it's just the first time? My friend started playing recently and hes told us "its ghostface" at LEAST twice based on the tips.

Basically what everyone else said. Your not meant to know who the killer will be before the match starts because you will bring the perks that counter them.
If it was a doc everyone would bring calm spirit. If it was a trapper people might bring small game. Mikey/Wraith/Pig/GF people would all bring spinechill.

Wraith - Hearing BING BONG
Billy - His chainsaw sounds
Nurse - The Scream
Hag - Her traps
Doctor - You hear his ability or someone screams
Huntress - That infernal humming (though it could just be in your head) Also you hear a cling that signifies she's about to throw a hatchet.
Clown - cough cough
Spirit - The sound of her moving
Myers - When he reaches tier 2 you'll hear his music
Leatherface - His chainsaw.
Pig - Her boxes
Legion - Someone goes into Deep Wound State
Plague - Cleansing Fountains
Ghostface - Someone gets marked
Demogorgon - The portals
Oni - ROAR
Deathslinger - BANG

I usually hear Demo over his loud screech after hitting someone before actually teleporting.

No! If there was, a lot of survivors would lobby dodge so they don't have to deal with a killer they don't like dealing with.

The most annoying killers that can hide their identity is Spirit, Myers, Ghostface, Hag. When one of them is killer it will always be so quiet but the thing is that both loopable and both not loopable so its hard to be cautious about them and they can catch you off guard quite easily.
