Redhearing lacks?
I believe this is just another perk that helps newer players get used to where there gen is at. It’s not much use for a highly experienced survivor. I’ve been thinking of some buffs. I got 2. Ok so you see the aura of the gen when you walk away from it, but when the killer damages the gen the gen should not have a damage effect on it for like 25 seconds, you can change the amount of seconds. My second thought is when the killer damages the gen you see his aura for 3 seconds, but that’s kind of like alert, so that ones not that good. Do you guys think redhearing is a good perk? Did I read it wrong? Got any other buffs for it?

Red Herring is advanced trickery. In literary terms it means a distraction. A fake lead. That's not for newbies.
With that said, I have no idea how to take advantage of said trickery other than end game plays, or totem hunting since you won't set it off by breaking bones.
But in any case, it's a support perk. And the bigger the distance the killer has to travel, the better the perk. So if you're in a small level or 3 gen'd yourself, it may not be much use. Even less if you're accidentally getting teammates spotted.

Well, tbh I’ve never used it yet, but what struck me was that repairing a new generator will change the highlighted gen to the new gen, so now you can only use red herring on new gen.
I always felt that was wrong. You should highlight the first gen you touch, after three seconds, and then be free to go and work on another gen. So now when the killer is getting close, you do the locker thing, the killer gets notified and possibly leaves your area.
If you wanted to change the highlighted gen to a new gen, then you pop it or go in a locker and red herring it. Dunno why they have so many restrictions on a simple noise indication.

I haven't used it yet but from its discription is sounds like a distraction perk similar to the pebble except more advanced. Definitely not a perk for newbies I wouldn't think. You have to really be smart about how you use it.

Agreed on that. I messed it up once after hopping into a locker to heal with Inner Strength, and the killer got the notification, while someone was already working on the gen, so it's a very time and place perk.
