Popularity of Self Care?

So for a while there I didn’t see too many Self Cares - it seemed to fall out of favour, and I haven’t run it myself for a long time. But recently, I see multiple Self Cares in almost every match I play, and I’m red rank on both sides.

Does anyone else have this experience? I understand why some people run it, even if I’m not a fan of the perk personally, but it’s more popular than DS in my experience which is pretty crazy.

I see it pretty often but I have pretty much ditched it for Inner Strength.

I feel that it is balanced where it is at if not ever so slightly in need of a buff. The ability to heal without a med kit is very useful, however the time that it takes to do is pretty substantial.

I just play injured until I’m hooked, and then the unhooker usually heals me. Otherwise I just use an aura reading perk to find someone since I always run either Bond or Kindred.

I don't use it anymore. I'm mostly built for points and item farming, with a single perk to help keep me alive. It's still a very useful perk.

I use it, especially when I play solo because random survivors like to unhook and run off into the sunset. LOL

I made this post a while back, self care has a use rate of about 30-40% according to this.

I use it mainly because play solo a lot more these days, and because I'm also either playing stealth or I have Botany Knowledge as well, so I won't get founs as easily.

Honestly, you are better off with self care instead of aura reading perks. You can make a good argument that aura reading has other benefits besides healing which is true. But in terms of just healing, self care is better. If you have another player heal you then you are spending time moving around the map to get to them and also it is wasting two players time not being on gens instead of one. It's overall more efficient to just heal yourself.

Self care is in a good spot. Useless at high level play but at lower ranks can come in handy.

Wish this perk wasn't as popular as it was though.

I used to use self care when i first started, i now use inner strength (not all can have access to it ofc) what annoys me the most with those that do run self care is when the killer isn't campin, I'm strugglin on a hook close to death whilst they're self carin against sloppy butcher near me, that royally pisses me off instead of just unhookin and gettin the heal, but if u're last in the game say bcs ur team mates buggered off and u're left injured is when personally i would use it at a safe zone before dippin out, but each to their own, all i see now is self care users

Nah, I completely disagree, Self Care would be a worse play than letting other people heal me. Both survivors are off gens for 16 seconds, sure, but that’s half the time of Self Care for the killer to patrol. The number of times I’ve seen a survivor Self Care for like 30 full seconds only to get downed in the last second or two is depressing. And having one person completely out of commission for 32 seconds is really bad - it’s not just the survivors’ time you have to account for, but the killer’s as well.

I don’t go looking for people to heal me either. I use my time injured to actually do stuff, like gens or hex totems or unhooks - but if I come across another survivor with an aura reading perk I’ll let them heal me if we have time for it. I mostly run aura perks to let me coordinate my actions around the actions of my team.

Same. It’s crazy how often I see rank 1s and 2s running it.

  • xenotimebong
    xenotimebong Member Posts: 2,803

It’s definitely situationally useful! End game is the perfect time for it, and there are some scenarios where you have the time and being healed is important so it makes sense to use. I’d rather run perks with more utility though.

I use it when i don't have a good enough medkit , if i do have one i use botany knowledge but since the addons lost of survivors it becomes way harder to use medkits as good medkit and their addons are super rare in the bloodweb so most of the time i am left with crappy medkits and addons that arent worth running even wih botany knowledge

PS : i would like to talk about survivor mains who make fun or look down upon other survivor mains for ruining selfcare but those are the same survivors spending an eternity wounded in a corner of the map trying to be sneaky to not fall down because they are wounded and then fall down in 1 hit after being found , if only you had self care and spended 20 sec of this eternity of sneaking healing with it maybe you wouldnt have fallen down in 1 hit and wasted even more time just trying to be extra careful because you were wounded

It's popular with boosted potatoes who don't know what teamwork is, or are just selfish. Everytime I see someone self care while I'm on hook I just kms because I'm not keen on doing all 5 generators by myself while they hide all game. In all honesty, selfcare should be disabled in red ranks. No team is going to do well against a rank 1 Freddy/Spirit/Billy with slow down builds if one or more person is self-caring every minute in the corner of the map and letting the others do all the work (gens, totems, running the killer, etc).

I had this game when i was on ma first hook, one of team mates was gettin chased quite a bit away from me, and then there was 2 ppl right beside each other not far away from me who were swf, one was self carin and the other just standin there waitin for Christmas leadin me to go to second phase, it's plays like that with self care i just wanna hook suicide xD but aye totally situational is the most useful, I'll always heal someone straight away off a hook bcs i run we'll make it, i just can't half the time with self care on how ppl use it, it hurts ma brain

Most annoying thing is seeing two or even three teammates all self-caring near each other. How does that even make any sense?

I run self care because my team will sometimes run off without healing me in the safe zone. I want Inner Strength, but I'm not going to pay for Nancy, oh well.

self care = not a teammate

they will not be saved if i dont have to

I think the boosted potato would be the person who thinks that an injured person should unhook rather than a healthy person. But wow, the hypocrisy in assaulting intelligence as not being helpful and then admitting that you're the type that suicides on the hook. Between people that kill themselves and people who use self care, the former is 1000 times worse for teammates than the latter.

I always run self care in solo. In a 4 man SwF squad, we have one person who runs self care and botany who does all the healing

A lot of people run self care because they are afraid of being injured I think

  • Raptorrotas
    Raptorrotas Member Posts: 3,253

You need longer than 16-20 seconds to find a survivor to heal you? (Who might not even be interested in healing you). Well, you could be healthy by that time if you found a rather safe spot to selfcare.

(Btw, 1 healing, 1 on gen is the same for gen progress as 2 healing, 0 on a gen.)

The people saying self care is a useless perk are the same ones who are absolutely useless in the end game because they can't find a heal at a critical moment of the game.

The people saying self care is a useless perk are the same ones who only stick to the absolute safest areas of the map while injured and not getting healed. Smart killers don't waste time in those areas, so even if you aren't getting downed in that time, you aren't helping your team nearly as much as you think.

While having a teammate who only self cares in the corner every time they are injured is certainly not good, it is preferable to a player who has no idea how much utility a perk like self care still has. I'm much more likely to be saved in the end game by the former player if I'm on the hook than the latter.

I always have it, but dlrarely use it. It saved my ass a few times, especially at the last moments of the game, but! I Don't use it if there's sloppy, prefer to find a team-mate or just jump on a gen. But sometimes it comes handy. Killer found us healing and I'm at 90%? Self care for the final 10% and now killer needs to hit me 2 times. You just need to know when to use it, and i play solo so yeah

I would like to get inner strength, but sometimes i watch streamers that have it, and at the end they wasted more time then the 32seconds self care takes.

I'd like to test it myself, but i still don't have it :(

Same here. Only time I run self care is when I have to use one of my earliest survivors for a challenge who I leveled up before the Stranger Things DLC was released.

I rarely use it myself unless I'm going for mega-medic builds with self care + botany knowledge and a medkit, but I totally see why it's popular.

It took me quite a while to realize I don't always have to get healed before doing anything else, and when you're not confident in your ability to play injured (even temporarily) having the ability to heal yourself at will is nice.

    Selfish-Care

Unlocks the ability to waste time in the corner of the map at 500 % the normal AFKing speed.

Increases the efficiency of being a douche by 100/150/200 %.

I'm guilty of self care, but I only use it when no one is on the hook. If someone goes on the hook, I stop healing and try to rescue them with borrowed time, even if it means sacrificing myself.

I see both sides of this perk being used a fair bit to alot even in Red and purple ranks. I use it myself when I'm getting enough consecutive teams just not willing to heal. But I see it so much when I'm playing killer that I can't convince myself not to run sloppy butcher, cause just one person self caring in a corner gives me so much time economy.

I'm a solo player so I have it just in case people run off after hook saving or I escape a chase. It's also been useful many times during endgame.

Not every single player who runs self-care hides in the corner of the map to heal. If there's a gen nearby with someone on it, I'll finish it with them and they'll heal me after. If someone is hooked nearby and/or someone is getting chased, I'll save them while injured.

I’m not a big fan of self care either but people run it mainly cause they’re solo or no one will heal them, I’ve had no one heal me in my experience so that’s why I run it bu lots of people do not like the speed of self care which is why most don’t use it.
